Destiny Beta - Rare Moon Mission and Final Beta Reactions
Aaron and Ryan show you the timed exclusive Dark and Beyond story mission while giving final Destiny Beta reactions.
1.) Comparing it to borderlands constantly. Yes it is similar, but what do you guys expect? Every game can follow similar mechanics as a predecessor its very hard to come up with something that is truly brand new. In my opinion that isn't necessary. Pick a mechanic, build it well, and then go with it. Plus if you have played BL you know how glitchy it was and such poor service from Gearbox. So if it turns out to be a much better built and maintained BL I will enjoy it.
2.) Saying the weapons are similar/weak effects. I truly believe that the weapons get more interesting and exotic at higher levels. Remember how everything is the same in BL at the beginning? Or any other leveling game? It is the same thing. (Of course if they don't that will be disappointing.) Also they are designed to be interchangeable so that they are balanced so of course picking between rifles styles doesn't make much difference, it is just for taste.
3.) The classes being similar. I think that is the point. Bungie has stressed that they want you to drop in and out with friends casually and strictly for a no hassle fun experience. If there was a huge difference in each class then you would have to constantly be changing classes and leveling up to appropriate levels to play with friends. They told us it's an FPS first, with MMO type play added for a twist. Also it makes multiplayer doable so you aren't getting one class crushed in PvP constantly. It seems that more obvious differences come up in higher levels as well.
4.) The switching of heavy weapons and losing your ammo is very frustrating. I really hope that was a glitch.
5.) Similar enemies over and over. What do you mean? What game are you comparing to? Of course they reuse enemies. Do you ever go into a game expecting a brand new race to appear around every corner? This seems like a very silly thing to complain about. Most FPS's don't even try to make different enemies to fight. You don't hear people complaining that you had to shoot another human carrying a rifle in COD.
6.) Bungie said that the beta was a test for the servers and hardware etc. Not to hype the game. So expecting it to show off the best content is silly. They just put in enough content to test their hardware.
If you want to play a real mmo shooter you should try FIREFALL. Great game, with real open World feeling. And the best: it´s free!
numbers coming out of enemies
and bullets seem to have the same effect as petting
Agree with all of the criticism completely, and glad to see it instead of the typical overhyping I've seen everywhere else. They have a lot to work on in a month and I sincerely doubt they will address the majority of the issues in the Beta.
Game isn't released yet, give them a chance to make it a little bit better before we drown them with judgemental faces
Destiny is worse then Ryse in the sense that you are killing the same enemies over and over and over
My impressions of the Destiny beta:
Pyoo! Pyoo! Choo Choo Choo! Thwump!
Ha. I slay me.
I feel bad for Ps4 players. They have been so void of great FPS games that they think destiny is actually good. In my opinion it's horribly over hyped. It borrows too much from Halo and borderlands without surpassing them.
I feel like this was extremely nit-picky. There's nothing wrong with that: nit-picking is good! It means that the game was a lot of fun, but there are small things to nit-pick.
The Emoji 's need to be mapped to one button with a wheel flyout to choose from emotions. Then you can add a flashlight button.
i don't think they can in just over a month be able change major game mechanics like the weapon types to make them seem more unique and to make the different character classes actually seem different....the game will probably be pretty much the same as it was in the beta.....am still buying it tho it was good fun
I agree with a few things mentioned, disagreed with a lot. It's always good to provide thorough feedback though after a beta. Bring on September 9!
Im sure there is some lore as to why the moon has the same gravity as earth. Its not like they just forgot or anything. When the traveler terraforms a planet it prob effects the gravity too. They said in the intro that Mercury has become a garden planet. Its crazy Space Magic man.
Does anyone remember when FPShooters stop letting players choose their own crosshair shape, color & brightness? Maybe this was a PC only thing, but I wish Devs would bring back more options.
On a few occasions I would simply loose track of my crosshair in fire-fights.
and Impact is Impact. The impact your bullets have on an enemy. Do they reel from your torrent of bullets or do they continue to shoot back like it doesnt bother them?
Im going to have to disagree with the whole classes being different thing. People keep calling this game an MMO and bungie has clearly stated that this is not a MMO. That being said it doesnt have to have all the MMO trappings like you were talking about. A hunter is a hunter because of the lore that theyve established around him, not because a MMO has traps and pets. Bungie has clearly said they dont see the classes as a holy trinity. They want you to pick a class and not feel like you made the wrong choice down the line. The game is a shooter first so all the classes will feel similar because all the classes can use any gun. Until we see more about the subclasses it would be hard to argue that the titan, warlock, and hunter hold no differences.
also the moons gravity would prevent such things as enemies getting GLUED to the floor after being shot
ALSO fire arms would have more kick back try shooting with an AK in low gravity... ITS NOT FUN
also that vehicle part was coma inducing
you know .. this game ... I wont ever play it its just not up to MY standards
also noticed Chinese writing on one of the base walls?? if it is then that's a nice slap to the face to NASA ... shame on them
also my idea of "warlock-ing" ,even in mass a effect-y style, I simply did not imagine throwing grenades : /
watching the vid I just dont see the appeal of the game sure it can be fun for a few days then its done
i really like it, something different from a military FPS is always welcome for me, even if its similar to borderlands and halo in many ways, for me it felt fresh and new
What really annoyed me, among other things, was the flashlight. The game automatically turns it on in specific rooms, but more times than not I found myself in a dark room without the ability to see anything or to manually turn my flashlight on. It really restricted me in both exploration and performance. They took gameplay freedom away from our hands and made it automatic, and it doesn't even work half of the time. I want a flashlight button dammit!
@bornstellar343i If we wanted to play an MMO shooter we wouldn't be waiting for Destiny, would we?
@LostTraveler47 I tend to avoid being hyped about anything, which is why I was pleasantly surprised by Destiny, lol. I could easily see a lot of people that had too big expectations feeling let down by it.
@Blazen702 Well when the full release comes out there are some other enemies that we have not seen yet.
What FPS games would that be again? I hope you're not talking about Halo or Titanfall because I would rather play the Destiny beta all day than play those crap games again (Halo:Reach was decent but still doesn't stand up to Destiny).
Maybe I feel sorry for you because you can't recognize a good game just by playing it's beta (assuming you actually played it). All that while still leaving more room for improvement from beta to game release.
I am the same way. I think these reviewers are trying too hard to compare this to other games. I heard the name "Borderlands" way too much in this review. I mean, sure it has some similar features and BL was and is a very popular game...but I, for one, felt that Destiny has the potential to be way better than BL or BL2 and I don't want it to copy some of the things mentioned in this review. The "lack of" world differentiation and character differentiation (which I loved the different classes) doesn't bother me. Sure the gun diversity could use a little work but I can't help but feel that's something that will be (along with the mentioned class differentiation) more distinct at higher levels. We also have to keep in mind that most of us only saw common and uncommon gear. If we were lucky enough then a rare item dropped and some of us could purchase legendary capes if we played iron banner enough. Other than that...we have yet to see what the higher level gear will look like and/or how it will perform.
On the flip side of this, I totally agree that losing your ammo for switching weapons is dumb. As mentioned, hopefully that is a bug and, if not, it seems that would be a fairly easy thing to fix.
If I had to be picky, I would say my biggest problem was the 30 fps which was semi-noticeable when running or turning at a higher controller sensitivity. My understanding was that the reasoning behind this was because the game is cross-generation and it was easier/cheaper to just match the Xbox 360 / PS3 generation than it was to bump it up to 60 for the next gen. I understand that may have been a good business decision for Bungie but I still don't like the idea.
Overall I absolutely loved the beta and can't wait to see what this game
is going to be like at level cap (which I think is 20). Good luck Bungie and I hope you have a flawless release on September 9th...I'll be there at midnight! lol!
@rad2071 While the earth-like gravity may be justifiable, I still want moon gravity. Then maybe give you a grappling hook (preferred) and/or special boots to keep yourself attached to the ground. That would be too much fun. Maybe in the future, Bungie, maybe in the future you will alter your game engine to do minimal gravity.
@seanwil545 Does anything give you a bigger smile on your face then knowing we almost have this in our little hands? http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-4-Destiny-Bundle233211/dp/B00KVOVBGM?tag=b0009-20
@rad2071 pff everyone knows real bullets especially the ones fired from gun ships don't do sh!t you can just run and hide behind cover and heal back then u can shot it down with ur gun
@rad2071 I see what you're saying, but I will have to dissent. If people keep calling it an MMO, then it is giving off the MMO, and then people get confused when it isn't or get frustrated when it doesn't conform to MMO expectations. There is a communication issue here. Personally, I'll reserve judgement until this game has been out for a few years. It is a 5-10yr game, after all.
I think that Bungie is walking a difficult path in trying to make the play feel that they didn't make the "wrong" choice down the line. People WILL make one of each class and experiment and tinker with them, and I expect the classes to each have their own unique mark. Each class should not be most things to most people. They need to be special and feel special. But the beta only capped at lvl 8, which is only a few hours in, which in turn is before the play time that other games' classes start deviating into their specialties.
I'll reserve judgment too.
@vadagar1 Didn't you watch the opening video to the beta? The group that went to mars was documented in English, chinese and I think the third was french. Nasa wasn't responsible. Something bigger was.
@vadagar1 American flags do. Because Freedom waves everywhere.
@hishamramzan Plus Defiance.
@sampson3121 If you didn't play it near when it first came out and play it with friends, then yeah, it's not much. Neither BL1 nor BL2 were meant entirely for single player, although the BL2 campaign was still very good. The draw was in the multiplayer, in the social aspect. And the crack-level addiction to hunting for a weapon with just a little better stats.
@sampson3121 Its Borderlands Not Boarder lands. Secondly, Are you talking about BL1 or BL2? BL1 is very slow for most of the game. The humor is very limited. The DLC is where the game really shines. If you have the DLC, play the Armory of General Knox first, then Claptrap Revolution. Then you will have a glimpse of BL2. BL2 does almost everything better and more of it. MORE loot, Comedy everywhere starting at the very beginning of the game.
@Doomguard3 to be fair the light is the ghost and if it is preoccupied I found you will not get it's help in dark areas while it goes through the actions it is working on. They show this to you in the first few minutes after you are revived by the ghost and he goes off to turn on the lights in old Russia.
@Doomguard3 I want a map.
The last day of the beta I came across this problem.
I found a cave and wandered in expecting the flashlight to kick in but oh no ended up getting lost and had to crank the brightness right up to find my way out (did find a chest with an awesome blue quality sniper rifle)
@smokeless_0225 Thanks for the thoughtful breakdown.
@akienous42 I still expect humanity to have flashlights in the future.
@spartanx169x That too.
@normanislost LOL... i had the same problem
