Bungie, I hope, is out to make a really good game that people will enjoy.
Activision is out to drive the hype and make it seem like the must-have purchase and will be doing all kinds of stunts to get people talking about it. Live action ad during football, jumping out of a plane..??! That has NOTHING to do with the gameplay.
They know-- if some of your friends are playing it... you'll be inclined to buy it so you can play too. They are looking to make 100's of millions of dollars on this. They are trying to whip the marketing into a frenzy.
Thus: I understand that there is a ton of pre-release hype to increase sales. But- I hope that the game Bungie made over the last few years is good enough to warrant it all.
Look for one or two releases of content, video, or a media stunt from now til the 9th. Have to keep Destiny /trending/. /trending now/ is a trend I hate, but it is clearly how America works. See #icebucket e.g.
With a new game in hand, I won't be looking to Gamespot to tell me what it is gonna be like. anymore.
I thought we were done with commercials that don't show any real game footage....like two generations ago.
im cautiously optimistic of the hype and market campaign, although the more marketing I see the less confident I feel in my day 1 purchase; especially because there wont be any reviews out before launch. I enjoyed the beta, but it wasnt omg amazing either.
hoping this thing doesn't play anything like the beta. it was fun at first, but after a while the missions started to remind me of Skyrim, and the weapon diversity started to remind me of Mass Effect 1.
saw the ad during the game. im pretty hyped to get my hands on this game, just wished they would have shown all the systems the game is coming out on and not just ps4...

Bungie has a marketing agency that does nothing but spit ball ideas about how to get you playing their clients products, it's called PR/Marketing/Branding. Millions and millions of dollars spent, so really a 2 min live action video is, I'm guessing, just the tip of their campaign.
@kvan33 The Titanfall: Free the Frontier Cinematic - Gamescom 2014 series was really great, but largely because it showed things you could actually do in game.

@Pelezinho777 LOL well after playing how many same ol same ol FPS over more than a decade you FINALLY get sick of them with this game which has the most differences from other FPS due to MMO and RP elements?
Good timing. I been playing since Reach so looking forward to enjoying it. I guess it's pretty great not to be burned out on the same ol same ol.

@Paul2005 Most games get old fast, I would cite Titanfall and WatchDogs as good examples of games getting old after a couple of days.
@Paul2005 these consoles are probably aiming for an update in 6 years. and that may be driven by what is currently visible with hardware down the line. Titan lvl performance will be had for less than 300 by that time. so it only makes sense that these consoles made a conservative choice in performance.
@AirDog80 elements doesn't make it an MMO.
Massive. Not even by a long shot. When I see nearly 300 in town or on a single 'planet' then maybe.
Multiplayer. SPOT ON.

Role Playing Game. Which every game that you play that isn't representing yourself in real life is.
So more like a MO than MMO.
trust me, i know what it is...those guys seemed pretty meh about the whole thing, as if they're clueless about the game.....or stoned
