had all the comics as a kid and he was always one of my favorites, but I just don't get the same appeal anymore...
Haven't played it yet, but looks like just more mindless slashing, hacking and button mashing to me, with a few lame jokes thrown in. Can't understand why kids are so in love with this stuff, but then I stopped reading comics around 1960, except for MAD. The very early MAD comics, from the early 1950s, were the funniest of all time. And it had to be clean humor because of the censorship in effect in those days.
I just have a few comments on what you mentioned in your review of Deadpool. As you pointed out, you are not a follower of the original comic so I can understand that you do not appreciate the infantile and off color humor that the character brings to the table. However, the game was designed more for the fans and not for the casual gamer who is just looking for the next bunch of achievements. Just seeing you play, it seems you don't appreciate the effort in how high moon have tried to stay true to the origin of the character while keeping it completely original.
In terms of gameplay, I somewhat agree that it isn't for all, but this game plays like your typical hack and slash with some gun elements. The mechanics themselves actually lend themselves to that of God of War or the latest reboot of Castlevania in which you have to be sure what commands and combos you are wanting to execute. The gameplay is similar to the before mentioned games since most of the battles are one sided and enemy toughness can be over the top. I like to compare this game to that of Resident Evil 6 where you have the choice of either just shooting everything or just using melee to a certain extent. you must admit, that not all gamers were able to get into RE6 since it made different references to past events.
Regarding Mechanics, you have to agree that it plays similar to God of War. The enemies swarm you similarly and have various degrees of toughness. Plus I noticed, you really don't play these types of games that often. When you were playing I noticed that you were getting swarmed and even when using the momentum moves you didn't even try to use them the way they are designed. For example, you tried to use oldschool, but you didn't attempt to use the button mash part of it. I don't know if this was deliberate or you didn't notice the onscreen notice that was provided to you. The game is tough, but that is the reason why you have the ability to upgrade your weapons and stats which is not to different to most adventure games of this genre.
Finally, what you mentioned that the game is raunchy, infantile and blue colored, your exactly right. However, you have to take into consideration who DeadPool really is. DeadPool as a character always pushed the envelope with his mannerisms and dialogue. The inner conflict within him has always added to the appeal to the character. He is called the Merc with the Mouth for a reason. Although, he doesn't often hear voices so that was just added to allow players, not familiar with him, a new dynamic. Furthermore, the cameos from other characters are just that, cameos. They are there not to help DeadPool as you experienced. They are there because all of those characters were involved with Deadpool in one of the events within the Marvel mythos if you watch the in game videos you will clearly see how each one ties in with DeadPool. Unlike other games where they just make up new scenarios based of movies, i.e. all the recent Spiderman games.
You may disagree with this comment and overall I wouldn't blame you, but please bear in mind that most of these games released these days are marketed mostly toward players who are fans of the series and/or character or an attempt to envelop the player in a new story. Please keep this in mind when you are working on future reviews. It will allow for you to be more objective and truly see the work involved in the development of the game.
I heard a couple of sound effects from Transformers!
This one's looking very average, very repetitive. Like the guys were saying, it doesn't look like an awful game, but there's so many more games in the genre that do things better. The biggest thing that stood out to me was how quiet Deadpool was during basic gameplay. Thought he'd be more vocal and annoying, lol.
Have to say guys, I was struggling to make out what you were saying over the sound of the game.
The game is awesome, not in the gameplay department but with the deadpool character. They manage to reproduce perfectly the deadpool persona with his schizophrenic deranged mind and the story is like out of a original deadpool comic. The jokes are also funny and the only story-based problem that i can find is the teleport part. Deadpool doesn't do that. The sad part is that gamespot put 2 people that didn't knew anything about deadpool to review and stream a deadpool game. They don't get the references and don't understand his behavior as well as the fans. It would have been fair if they would've put a critic that knows deadpool and one that doesn't to review the game and then make an average score in order to accurately rate the game. And i personally think that, with the technical flaws, the game is good, around a 6.5 or 7, and the fact that deadpool manages to annoy the reviewers is a clear sign that it's really a Deadpool game and that he does his job. Cause after all he is "the merc with a mouth":))
Gameplay may not be fantastic, but it looks passable. And honestly, it's funny as hell. I'll still get it once the price goes down.
this looks like some bad Ninja Gaiden/Spiderman game. The fact you have to collect some useless coins just proves my point : it's bad. There doesn't seem to be much a challenge to beat the enemies as it's just a hack and slash kind of game.
The only more horrible thing than this game is these two talking bulshit and not even trying to talk about the game in an intelligent way...
If a game is sooo horrible, Id suggest you to limit yourselves to a 30min stream...
By the gods this is just horrid.. Even if the game was driven by a serious story of some sort the main meat of the game (The Action) just is too slow not to mention the all around weapon sounds and enemies reactions from getting hit is just darn annoying/bad. I'm really disappointed I wanted a good deadpool game I love the comix but never played a game based on the character.
I'm sorry for this, I know a lot of people are sick of others getting on to Tom, but I just can't stand his attitude. That aside, I do agree that this game is crap.
Let's get this straight because you're getting hit stunned and the camera can occasionally get wonky if you go into a corner like a moron, the game is a 5.5. lmao I can't believe someone is actually paying that guy to give reviews. Here's a hint, when the average user score is 2+ points higher than your review, you're doing it wrong. smh
Snooty McGee the vampire lord wouldn't know a good game if it rubbed itself in his face and really Tom McShea reviewed and played this game? Maxwell should have reviewed it, he's more of a DeadPool expert.
mr sisnister can regen from anything you could turn him to dust and he will regen. he was created by apocalypse in 1859 I think it was 1859 . some time in the mid 1800's his name was Nathaniel Essex . (the name x-gene came from his name.) he personally knew Charles Darwin
tits the level emma frost rogue she hulk and that chick with the cowboy hat from the dead pool comic.
oh and as a side note make sure t ray is in it
First thing YES deadpool has an healing ability, And why do you do a "now playing" when you skip stuff and talk about other stuff then the game your playing. And maybe have someone that actually know something about deadpool do it, instead of people that keep compairing him to Ryan "Raynools" (yeah I cant spell his name, I just woke up, and Im pissed about it).
I think this game looks really decent and true to character if you like deadpool i think its safe to say you will like this btw lollipop chainsaw was awesome mot sure i want to pay full price for it though.
Yeah, I'm just gonna get it because its Deadpool. I just wanna hear all the random sh!t this guy can come up with. Treat it like a guilty pleasure :-)
Damn it, Tom McShit again, I just hope he does't make another (Mc)Shitty 2-minute review (like with The Last of Us) and gives this poorly designed, highly repetitive and annoying game a 9 or 10. LMFAO it'd be "great" if he gives this piece of sh!t game and 8 meaning it equals the amazing gameplay, game design and voice acting from TLoU.
Oh man this game has top of the line voice actors David Hayter and Ian McShane among others. A must play for me instantly.
@UniqueIndividua i think your spot on. i was big into comics in the 90s and i didnt read alot of deadpool as i sort of stopped before i think he was even out but none the less he was always a cool character but i have 2 friends who are die hard deadpool fans and they absolutely love this game because it stays true to the character and they dont care much about the gameplay because they like deadpool so much. i even made a deadpool mask for my friend and he wore it while playing the entire game, now thats a die hard fan
@lernoki He teleports.
That's what the belt buckle is for. There have been multiple stories dealing with his teleportation.
@gamingfrendly I don't see the problem on that.
@AgentMothman95 I honestly don't think ANYONE likes his attitude, but his reviews are fair in most cases.
@EL_Bomberdor tom or deadpool?
@Kairysama By all means. If you are the stuck up kind then Kotaku is the place for you.
@Kairysama Man, I hate his differing opinion so much that even his presence fills me with disgust!
@Faster_Bill Yeah, man, he generated quite a lot of traffic with this The Last of Us review. He is quite the asset.
He's a scientist and geneticist.
He has clones in secret labs all over the planet.
If he dies one of his clones wakes up and takes over.
I haven't heard of him regenerating from ashes though. But then again he has some pretty vaguely described abilities and he keeps modifying himself on a genetic level.
@karin_2049 Huh? He gave this game a 5.5.
@SpookyHoobster @karin_2049 Hi there, yeah, thank god! I just finished watching his review like 3 seconds ago mate.
