Dead Island Riptide - They Thought Wrong Trailer
The crew from Dead Island thought they were finally safe, but sadly they were greatly mistaken.

The only problem with Dead Island is that there is no co op split screen. Sure its fun playing online with friends but what about when you're by yourself, playing with random dudes and they are just screwing around the whole time or not on the same page as you. I know companies nowadays are greedy and want you to spend every last cent on their product but just do what L4D did and have the possible co op. In the end i played alot more L4D split screen with my friends than the all of Dead Island which was a shame because of the graphics, zombies, upgrades, and environment were much more refreshing in DI
6 things Dead Island 2: Riptide needs to fix
Hitting zombies upside the head basically worked in Dead Island but it was a bit disconnected. You waved your electric death stick around and eventually the thing you were hitting died because it felt like it. Even with the analogue combat system you had to use your imagination. I’d like to see a more realistic physics-based system in Riptide with your blows having real impact rather than just triggering squib-like explosions. Imagine a system where using large, heavy weapon lifted a corpse off its feet and sent it flying?
It wasn’t just that there was a lot of fetch quests in Dead Island, it was more the pointlessness of the objectives. You’re in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and someone wants you to get their teddy bear. A toy. Riptide really needs to provide more substantial reasons to face the undead – rescue missions, VIP escorts, maybe the odd assassination. Anything slightly more substantial than getting champagne and nick nacks for crazy people. The co-op interplay
Playing co-operatively with friends was great fun in Dead Island but there wasn’t much of a sense of different classes bringing different things to the party. The various skills – blades, guns, blunt weapons, uh, throwing – changed how you played the game as an individual but didn’t really make a jot of difference in a group. Riptide has got to offer more cooperation. Things like tank and healing classes for example, so you have to think more tactically about the party you take into a fight. The skill tree
Dead Island’s skill tree was large but not overly useful. Nearly all the characters had two or three core tricks that were vital, alongside a bunch of chaff. You also had to really max out some stuff to make them seem worth having. More often than not you ended up with a handful of effective, maxed out abilities that left you spending XP on needless things just to use it up. Riptide really needs a more effective spread of powers that give you more playstyle options. This ties in to some extent with the co-op interplay – if you can craft a more unique character it has more value in a cooperative game. The crafting system
The ability to make your own weapons was a great idea but it needs to be better. I never really bought into the idea of making your own electric bullets or acid rounds at a workbench. Hollowpoints maybe, but how do you electrify a 9mm round? Lets make the crafting system more believable with crossbows, tasers, wire and other more realistic resources to build more plausible weapons of zombie destruction.
The driving model
I cannot stress this enough: either fix the driving or ditch it. Trying to steer the one model of truck Dead Island let you get behind the wheel of was (is) one of the most painful experiences in gaming. There’s no sense of weight, traction or even the concept of wheels apparent once you start moving. The only reason I endured it at all was because some areas were just too big to walk across. Make the cars work this time or I’m out.
Hmm, the graphics don't that spectacular anymore. I mean is it just me? Or am I ridiculously insane?
It looks like the same game, just different areas, more weapons/mods, and more zombie types. Nonetheless, I still am excited to play this!
i really wish they'd stop over exaggerating the Australian/ Kiwi accents in games, the last dead island made me cringe every time i heard one of the characters talk
I honestly don't give a crap about these characters. Dead island sucked. I didn't get any sense of suspense or fear. and no proper introduction to the characters and their emotions. Maybe if they make some big improvements Ill buy this game.
Too bad the story elements are most likely going to be as bad as the first. At least it'll probably be fun.
Really? You want more realism in a Zombie Slasher game?
I am not a huge fan of FPS titles and to be honest, the FPS aspect of Dead Island actually put me off playing the game. I didn't buy it for a number of reasons but this was the main one.
As it turned out, I felt as though I had made a mistake because I bought the GoTY Edition for only £12 and loved it!
In no way am I saying that the game was perfect, it wasn't but it was far better than I expected it to be.
The dialogue was lame and I didn't like the co-op options that much, as you couldn't progress unless your co-op partner was ready! Most of the time, he/she would bugger off, killing the undead, rather than complete the objectives!? So So Frustrating!
However, the game is good. I would like to play through it again with friends, but not many people I know, actually own a copy.
All those side quests you didn't care for, e.g. Fetching a teddy bear... For me that was just a wee bit of light relief from a dark story. Sure it was pointless but it was just another Xp mission to aid you to level up... You didn't have to do it? The ongoing missions like the champagne gathering, wasn't great but not that bad either. I know, Zombie Apocalypse going on etc. but it didn't matter to the recipient, as they are meant to be drowning their sorrows.
The day they start making games like these into a more serious narrative, then they are no longer fun for me? I am not anti-serious games, I am pro-fun games, where I can suspend my disbelief and just enjoy gaming!
I am not having a go at you, I respect your views and some of what you said above, I agree with completely. Like the Co-Op. However...
There are too few games like this these days and that is a real shame?
In my own opinion, I believe this game was meant to be, just a good, fun to play... game! No more, no less... and for me, it truly was!
I just hope Riptide doesn't feel like an add-on meant for Dead Island?
Anyone agree/disagree with me, please say so? I am keen to hear anyone's (non troll) views on Dead Island?
THIS /\ , And I must say, as a Left 4 Dead fan, I WANT FIRE WEAPONS, rifles, machineguns, shotguns, RPGs, SNIPERS, C4..... I don't care if the plot makes the possibility of having fire weapons very scarce, It's a game, so they can conveniently summon them somewhere without realistic explanation !!!!
Take the success of DAY Z as example, it's a survival game against zombies and armed people WITHOUT a story..... just grab as many things you can and survive !!!!!!!! THERE'S NO PLOT OR STORY IF YOU ARE FACING APOCALYPSE ! There no romance, there's no time for bullshit ! I'm not against a good story, I just think that the focus should be different and a good story is just a plus, not a necessity ( for these types of games ) !
@guacadoggie It's more of a spin-off than a full blown sequel, so I doubt it will be much different.
@starstarkiller 'what the hell kinda name is soap anyway' lol
then why are you here? Dead Island didn't suck, and I nearly shat myself the first time I encountered a butcher. I'm glad the original characters are coming back.
@hampton2003 I wouldn't really be able to make a call either way on whether there's more gunplay, based on that trailer. I, for one, hope there isn't.
Guns were really good in the first game, as they should be... and clearly if they fed you enough ammo to where you could use them all the time, the game would be too easy.
@hampton2003 Yea this will be insane! Its like Far Cry 3 has finished and then this happened and it looks just about as good! Can't wait! Hehe
