Dead Island: Riptide - Pre-alpha Gameplay Trailer
Get a look at some pre-alpha gameplay of Deep Silver's Dead Island: Riptide.
It's exactly the same as the last game, literally the only difference is the location... think I'll hang on to my money.
this game needs daul weidling or a battle axe and able to cut zombies right down the middle or cripple them so they crawl
same game play.....
sequel? it seems more like... a map pack -_-
I hope they added something more than just a "new location".
Honestly who cares if it the same as the original. I loved the original. Too many times developers have changed things in sequels to the point it didn't feel like the game I feel in love with anymore. If it's not broke don't fix it. If I love a game I don't want it changed much just give me a couple of new things to make it feel fresh. They added landmines and that's pretty cool. I just want a couple new things like that. Maybe a new zombie too etc. I've already preordered mine and I can't wait.
I hope there are more open areas like at the beginning of the first one. I really liked the resort and even the city area, but as the game progressed the areas became more confined and not as enjoyable to me.
I hope there is not choppy frame rate as the first one for the PC port.
And they don't bother to fix it.
Then why I bother to buy it.
i hated the listening to the same music and the same zombie moans all the time and the glitchy grahpics i hope they change that.i loved hours of chopping heads off back stabbing kicking idc how repitive people think the fighting is i love it, people who didnt enjoy are the people who over thinking when playing a game
Won't pay more than 5 bucks for this game, yes it's pre-alpha, but at least 80% of that will be in the final game, considering there's only 4 more months for the release, and it it's EXACTLY the same thing as before. Not even a slight update on the engine, that's really really sad, the game was good an all, but there were many flaws on it and it doesn't seem like they dropped a sweat making this.
MAN that's completely the same as the original! How the hell is that a new game! It;'s more like a DLC made into a separate title...Pfff definitely skipping this one if its REMOTELY like this Alpha-stage. For starters they should WORK with their graphics engine...Hope Beta shows us something more promising.
Wow this looks dull.
Did i see a few zombies that were reminiscent of boomers from L4D?
Tower defense gameplay?
Kicking back zombies like bullet storm?
RPG elements for what reason i don't know?
Crafting system as seen in dead rising?
Please tell me they at least updated the close combat so that i can tell if I'll be swinging at open air or a zombies juicy cranium. From what i saw in this demonstration it looks like they just gave you a bigger health bar to compensate. Now that's innovation!
Has deep silver learned a single lesson from the original dead island and the generally negative reception?
Characters still seem as dull as dishwater and boring quest to quest system without any development in story or characters.
You fooled me once deep silver. You will not be fooling me twice no matter how emotional you make your first trailer.
I'm kind of disappointed. It looks and sounds identical to the 1st one. I will have some faith though...
I know its only pre-alpha but it looks exactly the same. I hope they add at least a few new features :P

I'm really unsure on this title. I played the first one, and grew tired of the jungle areas, and beach resorts. The only part of the game I enjoyed with the slums and the police station. As this one looks to be set in yet another jungle, it may not hold my interest long enough to play through the game. I'll wait on more footage and see if there is enough city locations to make me want to buy this title.
So pre-alpha means before they even started making the game right? I'm joking obviously, but that is weird terminology
So far these guys are doing things right from a marketing point of view... they showed that ridiculous special edition, started some controversy, they apologized... and now they have all the attention!!! That's how it must be done, really.
I forgot to add this in my last post but I am sorry for maybe using Fallout or Obilivion to describe the RPG element bit they were the only 2 I was able to think of at the moment. and I might of been a little off base but I know some might see it the same as me.
I'm looking forward to this game as I liked the first game and I like acrion RPG's or RPS's like this as that is what this game series is trying to be with being more of being a pure malee RPG ( Fallout 3 and Oblivion ) or RPS like ( Borderlands 1 & 2 ) what ever you want to consider this to be as in my eyes it is not a standard FPS it did played like an RPG/RPS and ot was fun for me. So you know what at $50 bucks I'm sold on this series already keep them coming Deep Silver and Techland.
Does anyone actually like the xp numbers popping up? I know that you can turn them off but really, what's the point? Anyhow, I love Dead Island and I'll be supporting them with my hard earned cash.
@KaSeRRoR Problem is it was almost broke. Full of bugs and glitches. Still the most satisfying zombie melee fighting mechanics in a long time.
@Reuwsaat The engine? Seriously? Dead Island, with all its flaws, was one of the best looking games out there when it was released.
@Reuwsaat They could of made this pre-alpha footage at any time, perhaps 5-6 months ago maybe. Did you ever stop and think about that? Seriously. Stop belittling a game that isn't even out yet. When it releases, play the damn thing and THEN state your opinion.
@Scryll Everyone but you noticed that this is pre alpha gameplay.
@Kos1c Maybe it's my memories of the movies I enjoyed, but for whatever reason I like more urban setting as well. Even if it was not a large city, for zombies I prefer more buildings, remnants of society and such.
@jhunter28 you mean overall ? or the (terrible) voice overs?
@StonerDemon so true!
there is really no way to please people. if they went a completely different direction from the first game, people would get all excited for it and when it released those same people would complain about what's wrong and how fail it is compared to the original. instead, deep silver is sticking with a formula that has worked, building us a new map, new weapons and what looks like more intriguing gameplay, and you complain that it is an expansion pack. I'm happy they are taking the formula from the first game and making it better. They can't please everybody, but to me, this looks really fun.
@themonty554@SergioMX @Reuwsaat To themonty554, learn something about development and what these "alpha, beta" means and what is the state of the game when it reaches that, also, save your raging for your parents for not giving you manners to talk to people.
To SergioMX, didn't said it was bad-looking, but for the time-span between the games, they could have AT LEAST shown some effort adding new textures, this game is like a mod campagin or something. The Chrome 5 engine isn't bad, but it wasn't the best looking one back then and these 2 years between the games already set it between Havok and lower engines. Didn't expect humongous improvements in such a small time, but take Crysis as an example: the first one came out 2007 and Warhead came out 2008; They used the same engine on both, but you could clearly notice major improvements on the lightning and over the particles effects. Or even back to Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask, when you had to bleed to make a character move without glitching during the testing, they did a major improvement on the lightning too, to the effects and even to the textures, it was quite impressive. I was just playing Dead Island again when I watched this video, and I felt ripped-off even though the game is not even out yet, the texture of the open door at the ruins is exactly the same one as before; the brownish filter over the screen is there and even more than the other game; the kicking animation is still the same and back on the other game it looked like a frog dancing that russian stuff in the air; they didn't polish the game one bit and it clearly isn't worth half of a new release. Not saying that the game is bad, otherwise I wouldn't be playing it again, but to call that thing a new game is ridiculous.
