@xello976 champions was fun but it bored me with cheesiness everywhere and too many restrictions on free players. city of heroes is better
They hit upon a brilliant idea for an MMO where you get to spend time playing your alter ego in the city.
Great game. Been playing for 5 months. And now its going free? Thats a huge bonus for me. Would definitely recommend this to any MMO'ers who play console games.
i just started playing the superhero mmo champions online and then this goes free champions has got a wider selection of powers but this has a better pvp system
This is hardly free, think of it as trial like WoW. Check their site, with free you can play, but you can't voice-chat, 6 texts per 30 seconds (seems more like an anti-spam to me). Can't use auctions nor expansions so... sounds like a trial to me. I thought it was gonna be micro-transactions based, but it's not. Pay and you can spam messages and annoy people forcing them to use the /ignore feature.
fail... i had a feeling that this would go F2P...a waste of money but glad i didn't buy the collator's edition or get the lifetime sub. tsk tsk
@CommandoAgent Technically, WoW is free to play just up to a certain level. There are ads everywhere about it.
Text only mail for the free to play people. That is taking things to the extreme. I can't send items to anyone ? lolol I would like to know what the deal is with zero auction slots. Are they saying we can't auction anything ?
Understandable to make it free. This game is certainly not worth 15 a month for a subscription. I played my first month with game purchase and that was it. Even free I'm still not thrilled to get back into it. This game was quite a disappointment for it's hype.
Midi-chlorians?! This guy deserves to be slapped. But nice free to play, now i might be able to get some of my cheap ass friends to play this.
Whats this? all MMO games now are becoming free to play i think world of warcraft should follow suit.
the only thing that concerns me is that when will it be offacialy free i know its in october but when in october
I wasnt going to go back to playing this.. but now that its going to be free, ill get some of my friends to try it too
will i be able to play online if i buy it used or do i have to wait to download. I want to try this game but am a little confused and would appreciate it if someone could clarify
I'll probably give it a shot. I need something to keep me occupied until Star Wars The Old Republic or Diablo 3 is released.
OK here's an honest review from someone who has played this since launch and just un-subbed, the game is not worth a monthly fee what so ever, the population is on the decline once again so the free to play model is the only thing left SoE can do to save it. The game it self can be alot of fun, the journey from level 1-30 is the most interesting part, its actually enjoyable enough to do several times. Once you hit 30 it becomes a long long process of running the same duo's (2mans) Alerts (4mans) and solo challenges every single day till you earn the gear and skill points needed to progress to raids. Once your ready for raid (which doesnt take long and all 5 are incredibly easy) you get to do these once a week for more skill points and gear, rinse and repeat and pray SoE puts out new content cause it does get incredibly boring after a few months of running the same stuff, there is no crafting, there is very little to no open world events, just grind the same content over and over again. As far as PvP goes on PC side, it can be fun but its littered with hackers, exploiters and cheaters who have already killed the population once and quickly doing again now that the megaserver are in place and SoE takes little to no action against them and allows it to run rampant. Prepare to be very frustrated with this aspect of the game. SoE forums are littered with complains about it. Overall the game is fun and worth the F2P model, but you will be disappointed if you sub to it.
I'm very happy this is free. I liked the beta but wasn't about to pony up $15 a month for any game. Never having played an MMO before, this will be a good place to start. Nothing to lose since it's free! I am a bit intimidated though cuz I've never gotten into an MMO before... seems like there is a lot going on...
Thankfully, I found a place in Seattle that'll actually let me trade this game in, I was starting to feel a little conned by the fact we had to pay for a monthly fee, AND the DLC... What am I even paying $15 a month for, this isn't WoW and I don't feel compelled to do it, I can find plenty of other worthy MMO's of my 15 that will ALSO include tiny packs such as this for free. If I wanted to be nickle and dime'd, I'd play a F2P as is.
You can choose where you start, you can start in both city, doesn't really depends if you choose villain or hero. You can level in both cities
i can't believe the failed to mention that it is going f2p next month instead of mentioning the current soon to be obsolete monthly plan
i made a 4.0 rieview of this games cause when it comes out it sucks badly in several points. Now one point the free to play thing changed so ok i also heared they patched some content and make game bigger i will have a look again when i can download it for free on pc but compared to other morpgs it still wasnt so how to say round up many edges
This game could have been so much more. Instead, it is another failure of SOE. The in game communication leaves so much to be desired. The game is intensely fun for a few days. Flying around the cities is really cool, but the missions are repetitive and boring. Maybe with patching it will get better. I will start playing it again after it is free.
The game is so great and can't get enough of it, especially when you start to adapt the game system and to experience the game from different aspects, use your character as a super hero or super villain, and enjoying RPG system. But still unfortunately the game is imperfect, some defects occur in the game, which really bothered me a lot. (Sometimes terrible disconnection from server, the game freezes, some LAAAGS, random mic disconnection, the group loot menu sometimes not easy to open or close and sometimes freezes on the screen and doesn't close!!!.)
I started playing this game. cant get enuff at the moment. If you on PC come to the bloodstorm server.
Just a note on this, your start area, eg Gotham or Metropolis is dictated by your mentor, not your allegiance, so those who pick Joker will start in Gotham for but those who pick Lex will start in Metropolis for the villains, choose Batman as a hero and you will start in Gotham aswell. There are cop stations and night clubs in both cities.
