the new Twisted Metal is so perfect. minus some of the network issues that are being worked on. hats of to jaffe and his crew. best TM game yet! awesome multiplayer.
In a way Jaffe has a point. Videogames are meant for entertainment, so try not to read to much into the industry or the videogame universe state what videogames should be. As long as I enjoy playing Twisted Metal for what it is. Rather than what is is supposed to "represent". then I am happy.
He does have some interesting points, no doubt... What I definetelly not share is that assumtion that is "gameplay" alone what it funnels the interest of the player... I am a player, and though I can play Pac-Man or Tetris like a blind mad-man, I note that the "enjoymen" I get from that experience is sooo much less relevant to me than smthg that speaks to me directly, through themes, emotions, etc (like Heavy Rain, for example). Perhaps I'm in the minority? But I really dont care about that. That's just my rotten personal opinion, of course. :)
very interesting talk...i used to think like that as well...now im starting to side with Jaffe on this...if i want a story i'll watch a movie or read a book...if i want gameplay ill play a game.... but what about a game with a storyline and cutscenes...how does he feel about that?
Shootmytruck.com is fake and it makes me mad that he tries so hard to make sound like a computer gernerated ice cream truck is real.
I agree. Nintendo still uses this approach to make "pure games" with outstanding gameplay mechanics, and little to no story. The experiences that I get from games today are extremely varied, but I always feel the need to scratch the itch to play something that's just simply fun to play. Story is a nice addition, but sometimes it just bores the hell out of me. The best game I ever played had the worst story mode ever. Chromehounds was absolute gaming at it's finest. The online mode (neroimus war) was light years ahead of it's time.
Roses are red, violets are blue, Twisted Metal, oh how I love you! V-Day is gonna be awesome this year!
