Shouldn't turn your back to on him, his charging attack catches up and takes down a huge chunk of health. It's better to just have your shield to him at all times and wait for him to swing to get under and strike.
@CWZaft Yea he was nice enough to point that out to me :) I'll probably stick with the Pyromancer like I originally planned. I love the starting gear for the Thief as well - so who knows - maybe I'll use Thief at the beginning and work towards a Pyromancer build ^^. That's the best thing about DS, every player has the freedom to build their own unique class :)
@iikefkaii I've only reinforcing Weapons so far. I mainly stick with my Zweihand "Ultra Greatsword" and Halberd. I've been using "Titanite" that have steadily increased attack power from 110 to 190. At the moment I don't have the embers to fully use the Modify option.
@iikefkaii To your comment of Pyro being easy-mode, did you notice at the end of the video, he was almost out of fireballs, but the boss had ~1/2 HP left? Yeah. I'm guessing he didn't win :P
@Yarvem @Kevin-V are you guys upgrading weapons/armor yet? If so, can you give us any details to how it works and how much of an effect its having on armor sets? It would be nice to have the option to keep upgrading a set you really like, making it viable for as long as possible instead of being "forced" to switch when you find the next best thing.
@quinholo Keep in mind that you had to find or forge such a weapon. In Dark Souls there are many Strength and Dexterity based weapons you either start with or are laying around the first area. It's "easier" in the sense that you can go around rampaging without having to farm items. Also, the old Magic stat has been renamed to Intelligence, while Demon's Souls Intelligence is now Dark Souls' equivalent of Attunement.
@Yarvem I don't agree with you. In Demon Souls I was a mage and once I found the crescent falchion (it has class B for magic once you upgraded it if I'm not wrong, so with my magic at 60 it has an attack power of 400+!! And it's still a fast wepon) almost no one could beat me. If Dark Souls have a wepon such as this, I'm definetly be a magician!! @Kevin-V Did you saw something like this?? =D
@Yarvem @iikefkaii And I would say the opposite. When you move along far enough, that swing leaves you wide open versus quick-striking enemies. But isn't that what's so great about a game with so many options, is that you can play how you want? I started as a cleric, but eventually found myself as a mix of knight and pyromancer. I prefer close combat, but in a pinch, throwing a fireball has its advantages. And thanks to the new magic system, I can't spam magic; when I run out of charges, I'm out until I rest at a bonfire. It's a great way of balancing magic with physical attacks.
@iikefkaii I'd say Strength characters are boarding on "easy mode" (well as much as you can in a game like Dark Souls). They can hold huge weapons that deliver a massive amount of damage per swing. Combine that with a decent shield and some lighter armor and you got a build that both hits brutally and can avoid strikes.
@Kevin-V - Alright, that's good to hear. I was almost disappointed when I saw you taking him down so easily. I should have taken into account the fact that this probably wasn't your first try and that it would get tougher as the fight went on...maybe I'll stick with the Pyromancer after all :)
Why isn't the wolf using its mouth and acting like a great ferocious wolf? I would find that more suspenseful and challenging (I think) than a huge swiping sword in its mouth. I loved Demon's Souls. Please don't let this game be a let down. I'm pre-ordered and committed from my love of the original game. Kevin, what are your thoughts so far and how long before you think you'll be posting the review?
@iikefkaii -- Trust me--this boss was anything but easy. I could spam a bit of combustion at the beginning, but I could have done that with almost any weapon. The trick is what happens after. Also, you get a limited number of spells; pyromancy is absolutely not "easy mode." I won't tell you how many times I had to fight this guy before I succeeded :)
Well, if I was in that position I'd be highly surprised to walk through a doorway only to find a giant wolf coming at me with a sword in its mouth. o_O
Well it certainly looks like Pyromancer is going to be "easy mode" for at least this boss...I was originally going to use this class but I think I may have be a Knight or Rogue now so I can get the most out of my first playthrough.
