@intro94 It was the method by which they incorporated these elements into thier game that really showed. These puzzles that you refer to, were all the same: Pyramids with correlating semicircles. It was a farce. They only opened areas with experimantal weapons that just barely did more damage than the weapons you already had. Not to mention they were all so easy that they were an insult to any gamer's intelligence. That was not an example of innovation, rather it more like degression. I have read that HVS was developing their game engine at the same time that they were developing the game itself. That, is in itself a sign of poor planning, which is perhaps the reason why Conduit 2 has been deIayed all these times...
It seems that the bulk of people's problems with this game boil down to a perceived lack of originality, and graphics. To you, I simply have this to say... 1) The problem with demanding originality in all things is that there is none to be had anymore. Everything has already been done in one form or another. Are you really expecting to see something original in an fps in this day and age? However, as they say, 'good artists borrow, great artists steal'. Also, as Toad1971 pointed out, a game should not be judged on it's originality, but on whether or not they are fun to play. 2) Graphics, really? This tired argument again? I will admit that photo-realistic graphics are wonderful to look at and, if done properly, can do a lot to draw the player into the gameworld. However, graphics are not what game developers should be focusing on... There's a reason why FFVII and VIII will always be better than XII and I can guarantee you it's not the graphics...
@DriftingAsassin Honestly no.The boost method is just a way bonus way of sprinting. To that effect, theres plenty of similar examples in the Conduit of "innovation". For instance, the fact that you unlock specific secret areas via puzzles. The game layout is like TS but since there are puzzles to unlock secret areas, they made it their own?.HVS doesnt claims its anything of its "own", and not bungie for that matter.I mean seriously, coping and adding a lil difference(like turning it into a perk) doesnt counts as making on its own.On that regard, Conduit weapons feel Unreal T, but work entirely different. We can say that then made them their own? Not to mention, the flow of action and pace of Conduit is entirely different from Halo. Again, is naive to think those other devs are super fresh and original, and HVS is at any flaw.SPECIALLY if you did play the previous games of the genre.
A lot of people are saying that High Voltage ripped off Halo. Wow, who really cares? As if Halo was so original - the Needler gun was ripped off from Half-Life 1. I could care less if the Conduit is 100% original - if it is fun that's all I care about. They could call it "Thalo" and I'd still play it. Rather than investing myself in a developer as a "fan" and caring about whether a game is original, I base my judgement on whether a game is fun not whether it is 100% original. The Conduit 1 was fun and I'm looking forward to Conduit 2!
Actually looks pretty cool. Haters can hate all they want. But it comes out on the same day as Portal 2...
@intro94 I guess I should be more clear in what I am trying to say. What seperates developers like High Voltage and Bungie is the differences between their styles of incorporation. Bungie manages to make whatever they incorporate into their games, their own. Like when they decided to incorporate sprint into Halo Reach, they made it a power-up and switchable with other options, like a deployable sheild or jet pack. High Voltage quite simply ripped off the original Halo, and attempted to pass it off as something that was totally theirs, and no one elses'. Unreal Tournament was developed by the same studio (EPIC games), as the Gears of War franchise, so they stole nothing that was not already thiers.Oh and by the way dismissing the validity of someone's argument...how kiddish.
@DriftingAsassin "The game developers have also taken some ideas from other games like Halo, and Gears of War, ".. wow..you think the developers and gears of war didnt take some ideas of previous games like UT and Quake.Naive kids...so sad.
To be honest, I can already see troubles with this game. High Voltage says that they have fixed the buggy AI, but all the enemies appear to do is stand there and shoot at you; not much of a change from the last game. The game developers have also taken some ideas from other games like Halo, and Gears of War, as well as stealing weapons fom other games as well. They are trying to pass off those ideas as their own, because they are either too lazy or lack the talent to come up with original ideas of their own. Also, they say that the art direction has been further developed. It still looks like something I saw when I was a kid in the 90's. That is where it feels like the game developers are stuck, in the 90's, still listening to cassette tapes and using Windows 95 to boot...
@ halbridious ummm goldeneye new super mario bros wii both were waaay more anticipated then brawl lol
Despite what seems to be the general opinion, I loved the first one. And Conduit 2 is a welcome adition to the wii's library, actually any fps is welcome. I really started enjoying fps with the wii remote, it's the perfect way to play this kind of game.
Well, its says its better...so it must be. lol I truly hope it is. I don't this video shows the graphics capability well, because these graphics look worse than the last game's. Well, as long as the gameplay and campaign and online is better, than i'm happy.
i totally agree targzissian wii graphics kind suck and the controls for mostly all the games are terrible
They're trying too hard to do all the things they think makes a game epic and atmospheric without really understanding how to do them properly imo. That just looks a bit tacky and amateur as far as I'm concerned.
Wow, they used low poly levels for the trailer - the E3 shots were gorgeous... The original had so many awesome bits ruined by quirks - poor campaign, crappy multiplayer levels, cheaters galore, ect. But the controls were perfect and the guns worked (except the rpg - it was a crappy spam weapon.) From what i understand, they concentrated on the levels and left the rest alone - that makes this my most anticipated wii game since brawl.
Looks fun, but from what I've seen in other gameplay vids Prometheus and Mikes voices are totally different and kind of kill the experience since the voice work was great in The Conduit
