this is the same engine used on C&C3 right? I dont think this game will succeed if it only has the same old mecanics. Anybody knows if they put anything new? Just remembered the generals thing is new but still not enough I think.
most command and conquer people aren't worried, I think they've already reset to the point where this game needs to prove itself as a new game, not a new command and conquer. That horse is already dead and beaten...
They made GLA more politically correct? Damn! I loved crushing the infidels with my crazy fanatics. AK-47's for everyone!
Did I miss something? Was there anyone asking for a F2P command and conquer? Is there anyone asking for FTP anything? Honestly?
Engaging as its always been? When is this always they were talking about? Not even talking about the failure that was Tiberian Twilight, Red Alert 3 was a load of trash too.
C&C wont ever be as engaging as long as its a Free to play scam and they dont make C&C: Renegade 2 which is the most amazing online experience Ive ever had in a game. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Battlefield.
I was in CC: Tiberium Alliances closed Beta for many months 2011-2012. I created and commanded an army called Red Legion and had some great team members from all over the world. We were consistently ranked in the top 4 Alliances worldwide, on Closed Beta 1. That's where it all went down before things were incorporated by the devs into the open servers. Players and Alliances played along with many on the dev team and it was fun. Many skirmishes were fought on the battlefield over territory early on in C.B 1. Players, teams, and Commander's trying to lead them all to the center of the map. It took months to progress, constant communication, awareness of Ally and enemy intent, diplomacy, just to survive. The hard work and dedication of players was really something to be appreciated.
Then the problem appeared which affected a lot of players; a Pay to Win mechanic was incorporated. Basically if you didn't spend real money in the game, your efforts were futile. That amongst other things like players creating multiple accounts, the endless messages people would send, a poor system of in game communication. That all became a factor and every Alliance felt it's effects. The fun factor of C&C: T.A became non existent. My great army eventually disbanded or pretty much quit the game entirely. I'll never forget the great wars (200-300 players plus, multiple Alliances) that were fought. Truly something to behold and be a part of. Some of my team still play the game. I think C&C: T.A was more or less an experiment in the cloud-based computing era of today. Could imagine what RTS games could be like in a few short years...If the C&C name is turning into a Pay to Win, micro transaction fueled like C&C T.A, I'm done with the series. Company of Heros 2 for the win.
Children of Nod, for too long we have suffered the cruelty and despotism of EA. We cannot simply sit idly by, waiting for our hour of deliverance. We must rise up from our trenches and bunkers to liberate Command and Conquer from iron grip of its oppressors. Stand with Nod, together we will sunder the thrones of tyrants and cast them down before us. One Vision. One Purpose. In the Name of Kane.
Victory Games: "Are we done screwing over the Command & Conquer franchise fans, EA?"
EA: "No, Comrade Victory Games. This is just the beginning."
***Hell March starts playing***
screw this, i want a C&C remake, how hard is it to make a C&C RTS game huh?? HOW HARD !!!!11!!!1223247890
I want command and conquer 5 with no shitty DRM and back to the original gameplay like in 3. as do many others.
EA is screwing around with C&C just like they are doing with SW Battlefront, two very great games. They are really trying to piss me of...
There is a distinction between generals and zero hour in terms of gameplay; so vast that you wouldn't believe it. If this game plays likezero hour it has some potential. If it plays like generals, then nothing but another let down.
My friends and I loved the original Generals / zero hour . It was in many ways better than Starcraft and easier to play. For those of you who have never played it.. it's a much different game than the other C&C games made. plainly speaking.. they sucked.. I assure you all that if this game is truly generals 2, its worth a solid try. My friends are going too.
Since I have never been a competitive C&C player and I don't see the point of playing a skirmish-based RTS primarily against the AI, this new C&C doesn't worry or anger me. The old C&C died with C&C 4, and it's not a bad thing in retrospect; the formula was becoming stale. I hope Victory Games makes this new formulation well-balanced and fun and a viable competitor to SC. If they can bring that feeling of nostalgia to even more old C&C players, power to them. Even if I don't play I wish the best for one of my favorite franchises.
Release it on Steam and I might play it, otherwise just go away and stop ruining my favorite franchises EA.
just like the last one? riiiiight, the game that helped launch RTS just like SC is still being redone in the same fashion with the same mechanics and utterly no innovation, the only difference SC(2) moves units, command and conquer has been dead since 'Generals' and every revival has failed. I don't want to see F2P I want a finished quality product with all the bits and pieces included inside, instead of being nickel and dimed because some dickface in corporate has a hard on for the f2p model.
Well im going to try it anyway seeing its F2P. I dont think it will be P2W. Mainly cosmetics such as army skins to personalize them more. Possibly buy generals but you can still unlock by playing or possibly more xp assuming by going with gaining xp per match or kill.
Yes its not what it was like in the 90s the best time for cnc. Its changed and not much you can really do other than play or not play.
@hieiwrath Different engine from C&C3. The engine being used in Battlefield 4 is being used in the new C&C. So it will have destructible environments and weather that effects the land and crap like that.
@hieiwrath This is same engine used in Battlefield 3 (or 4 not sure)
@eddieham13 You can also use it to demo the game. It's not really an answer, but it's one plus for F2P.
@eddieham13 I like free to play when it's done right and adds to the experience.
In some cases free to play just makes sense in every way. Like if you're making a digital trading card game. Why shouldn't you be able to create an account for free and buy booster packs with money, then? That's the experience of a real trading card game, so it's the perfect model.
Another is offering the multiplayer for free to get people into the game and have a big competitive online community, and then luring with episodic single player/co-op content.
In other cases I don't like it at all. Time restrictions is one of those I find grotesquely annoying. At that point I just want to go "alright fine, here. Just have your $60 and stop the bullshit" because I don't want to wait 30 minutes before I can race again. I'm looking at you, EA.
Another terrible business model is "pay to win" where a competitive multiplayer game forces you to spend money because your opponent is spending money which gives him a competitive advantage. That is disgusting and turns me off playing immediately.
I'm pretty agnostic about pay to win in single player games. I think it's silly that people want to pay money for what is essentially cheat codes instead of paying money for the actual content. I mean it actually blows my mind. But in this case I can just choose not to buy anything with real money and have my fun regardless. I feel a little bad not giving anything back to the devs though, but it really is their own fault if they make it so that the only way to give them money is to ruin the game's challenges.
@eddieham13 I love the free to play model. Instead of paying $60 for a game that includes features or content I might not care about, I can play for free and pick which additional features I want to buy.
@soulfulDAGGER "Company of Heros 2 for the win. " your are RIGHT
@stabby_mcgee Are you going to buy the franchise from them?
@stabby_mcgeeCompany of Heros 2 for the win.
@ggregd It's funny because you were being sarcastic, because AoEO sucks :o
Since when did the E.U. have B2 stealth bombers?
@ECH71 I bet U.S. will be downloadable content ...
@cboye18 Ah well, C&C has been a mess for years. Actually, pretty much all the franchises from the "good old days" are.
@Unfallen_Satan yea I really liked Tiberium Wars and Kane Wrath. I was really eager for the C&C4 with the final story of Kane and the improved Scrin. But then that launched and ruined the entire franchise. How the mighty have fallen.
@barakz0r I still want a worthy Lands of Lore: Throne of Chaos sequel!
@hieiwrath More than the radical redesign, I was turned off by a feeling of fatigue in 4. The missions, the story, the FMV, and the redesign all felt a part of it. Everything felt so... timid, even Kane. If the new C&C have more attitude like Kevin says, then the rebirth is not in vain.
@hieiwrath I can't understand why anyone would do that; it seems so counterproductive.
