Combat, Exploration and Neo-Paris in Remember Me
We sat down with creative director Jean Max-Morris to jump, climb and kick our way through Neo-Paris.
Combat reminds me a bit of ONI (which is a good thing) and the "Pressens" system they have there which allows you to build custom combos in regards of damage output / other features seems interesting, but at the moment it also seems to be a bit boring with the enemies patiently waiting in line like in Assassins Creed until one after the other dies.
What I absolutely despise though is the full linearity and high amount of invisible walls which basically force you to go down the only route there is, making "exploration" kind of pointless if there is no choice where to go.
I hope these helpers can at least be turned off, just like Deus Ex - Human Revolution could be played without all the orange glowing hints. (it still remains linear, but it's not as obvious at least)
It may just be an early section of the game, so there's still hope left that it gets more "open world" later on.
I hope there's lots of replayability value too with alternating storylines and all that.
I'll remain impartial until more details surface.
Quicktime events are one of my biggest pet hates in gaming today.
The other 2 are cut scenes that snatch the controls from you in the middle of playing and fighting sequences where the characters shoot light out of their hands and feet when they strike their opponent.
I'm a little disappointed at how much those pathfinding icons seem to be holding the player's hand in terms of telling them exactly where to go.
Am I the only person that is distracted by that thing on the back of her neck? Aside from that, I know the game is early, but I don't like how the combat is looking. I want to have faith in this game cause new IPs need to be supported. But I just don't know about this one.
I must remember ro press pause on the video when writing a comment :X
One question, are the leapers enemy? They arent the least but agressive and dont even seem to be looking for a fight? Maybe the just wanted to ask directions?
what is this "subtle pause" in between button presses? Is that a polite way to say "non-fluid combat?"
Arrows during platforming sequence is awkward... And the combat doesn't flow well at all. I really hate it when dev clearly aims at a B-grade production and yet they show off the title so proudly.
looks pretty good... but the camera seems a little clunky, they might want to work on improving it a bit
This game looks pretty cool and I like the female protagonist, but the combat does seem a little too arcade style for a game that looks more action/adventure oriented. The combat still seems sophisticated and I hope they're able to pull this off before release. I haven't played a good action/adventure fighting game since Oni.
Oh and I do like that booty as well.
they never said cloud gaming wasnt the future they are just doing their part to keep consoles alive...im behind that
"Where do I go?" "Oh, I just follow these brightly lit arrows that indicate the only path I can take to get to where I need to go."
What happened to exploration in games? You present us with this title that looks stylistically like it could be a third person Mirror's Edge, yet you limit the way we progress through the game by making us follow arrows? I for one hate this style of gameplay. Even the person going through the demo here tried to jump over an obviously low enough crate, and she only staggered in mid-air before returning to the original spot.
Sure the world looks nice, but we only get to see it as a painting rather than an environment. I agree that the combat looks lackluster; a lot of flips with no real action during. I feel ultimately that the devs had this neat stylistic idea, but ultimately are going to create a generic game that will be overhyped as heck simply because of its style. I'll wait to see more on this, but I'm not impressed by what I'm seeing thus far.
I wonder how much money they've already spent on this!? Every time my wife and I watched a bad movie, one of those you really don't believe that was actually released, if you know what I mean, I think: "How much money was spent to make this crap? They could do a lot of other good uses with that amount of cash!" ..... just sad.....
the game looks blah but I'm always interested in new ips and I'll probably get this once it drops down to forty bux..
The world Itself could be Interesting but the hand to hand combat reminds me of a poor copy of the Batman Arkham games.
i had a bad feeling about this game when it got announced but after seeing the combat animations and the hit detection my fears are all coming true. My first guess was since Capcom is publishing it was that its going to be a similar disastrous attempt at sci fi like P.N 03 on the Gamecube and it looks like its heading that way already, hopefully by review time it will surprise us all but i doubt it i could have used a sci fi game though
I might just wait until the game comes out to give the final judgement. It doesn't look great right know; but maybe there is something more to it if they polish it more.
The idea is interesting; but the combat is not that good animation wise. Plus the combat doesn't look all that innovative.
I interpret pretty much every single neutral to negative comment as "Waaaaaaah! I don't wanna be a girl and it doesn't have guns or swords!"
Go ahead and try to pass off these comments as some discerning observation, but it's clear a weaponless female protagonist is the beginning, middle and end of anyone's ambivalence or negativity towards this game, regardless of how they might try to disguise it.
@biokrysty I'm already liking it.
well he did say youve just escaped prison and your still in the tutorial system
@SavoyPrime Yeah I can't stand it they shit the bead on that one its not just on her its on everything and its there all the time. I was thinking of buying it tell i see that crap on the back of her neck, if they have the option to turn it off i might reconsider
@SavoyPrime I felt the same thing about combat, I think they have to improve much more those movements, they looks like pretty similar to batman without fluency. :S I felt weird
@SavoyPrime yea, I agree. It looks like she got a sunny-side up stuck to the back of her neck. And the combat still looks weak mainly, IMO, because her attack animations and impact lack oomph. That said, I'm still interested in the game. I hope we'll see improvements to it in the future.
@whackyq i have no idea, but the voice acting is absolutely terrible so i don't care
@AcidThunder So true. I can already tell this would piss me off relentlessly.
@vengefulwilberg i agee
What a dickhead comment.
I think this game looks lame because of the choppy animation, generic enemy types, button mash combat, clunky fixed camera sections, ridiculous combo customisation (you don't have any kicks! really? even though I have two feet....) game elements (Uncharted), mechanics (Arkham), character design and colour palettes (Mirrors Edge) unashamedly stolen from other games, over-familiar future setting and some bad 4th grade pseudo sci-fi bullshit (memory mutants...er, no.)
Not because the protaganist is female and there are no weapons.
@sambucca666 Sorry to challenge the universe's paradigms.
And I've done plenty of Sambuca shots, so I can confirm and agree it IS the devil.
@lumbergoose I am aware of that thank you, I watched the video.
