Well, even in the male power fantasy world of Far Cry 3, they managed some Alice in Wonderland reference, glad to see that they can fully embrace the idea of fair tales this time around.
Okay..so this is something fresh, I believe. The artwork is great and the side-scrolling stuff reminds me of Valkyrie Profile..
That combat system i saw was kinda similar to grandia, And i think i just saw flying slime from dragon quest no wonder this game is more similar to jrpg
I actually find this quite interesting, i like it's innocent and if the story is any good i'm convinced...after all not all games have to be realistic or full of blood
"Child, touch yourself in bed" wait what?,English isn't my first language so i might be mishearing things lol
cheap copycating for western fanbois. Seriously when japanese rpg comes out everybody goes booing it and not buying it. Now that ubisoft makes one is suddenly super popular important. Disgusting nationalism.
Ubisoft is on fire. Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist and Rayman Legends are all awesome. This game looks fantastic as well.
Art stile looks kinda cute and really beautiful. And its first time I heard about this game. Looks promising.
combat kinda reminds me of Grandia with the bar.... though aside from the combat it doesn't seem much like a JRPG..... looks great though
I love turn-based battle systems, but not sure if I like this one. We need a new paper Mario! :P or something like FF10 or Lost Odyssey.
I find it funny how this game looks like your standard JRPG, they even elude to as much, but because its not made by a Japanese company its getting major hype. Typical Western garbage, something is ignored or viewed with disdain, then as soon as a Western company makes the exact same game, MY GOD WHAT A UNIQUE AND BRILLIANT MASTERPIECE.
Witcher and Metro also suffered from this, its made by some backwater Eastern European so it can't be good. Had either of these games been made by Bioware or Betshda or even Bungie, they would have been appreciated a lot more and a lot sooner. (Im Eastern European by the way ;) )
@G4m3r0uTL4wZ no just no , this doesnt compare to dragons crown it is a different game. besides if vanilla ware ever made a jrpg it would be a lot better then this for sure.
@SoreThumbsBill what's WPG?
@frozenux LOL. She says "tuck" as in tuck into the sheets etc.
@Kyrylo I wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese shun American RPGs as well on their side of the world. Different cultures will always have different tastes. This is coming from a hardcore fan of JRPGs who's played the big, the bad, and the underrated ones. Yet to be honest, at this point in time, American RPGs are both of better quality and story at the moment: I'd never ever think I would be saying that, but I am. American RPGs just have more variety in all categories anymore while JRPGs have been clinging to the same anime, story-telling and gameplay cliches for a while now. Of course that is at this moment in time only and being an American myself, I probably have obvious inborn bias in my opinion. So take my opinion for what you will if you so choose.
@Kyrylo yeah, damn those american nationalists and their french companies... wait.
@hiphops_savior It is...
@AtariKidX I'm really happy to see that the UbiArt Framework is getting it's respect from Ubisoft and started to using it on more games.
@uglypinkmoose I noticed grandia combat too.
@kiramasaki You forgot too add S.T.A.L.K.E.R! to the list.
Good stuff Sir
This game screams indie.... It's Artsie as hell and looks like WAY more indie games out there than it does JRPG's
It's beautiful THAT'S why it's getting attention just like many other beautiful side scroller's
I love JRPG's.... in fact probably 60%(if not more) of my game collection is JRPG's but I think it's bullcrap when people like you don't give credit where it's due
The "typical" JRPG is niche as hell for a reason(even if they are good)
They're often cheesy as balls(something really hard to get past when your a gamer use to western quality cinematics in games), have tons of grinding(that alone makes even many western RPG's niche), settings and situations that scream anime(anime is something not everyone can enjoy as it is), and Wii graphics (which I'm personally cool with but when 90% of gamer's are main stream graphic whores you need to pull in with something like an art style, flashy action, or great graphics the Wii isn't going to cut it
And Namco Bandai(along with many others) suck total ass at advertising their games(I'd like to point out that Tales of Symphonia did good in North America because they actually advertised it really well and that game was on the Game Cube which was somewhat of a failing console)
As for the Witcher and Metro.... I guarantee you the average gamer has no idea where those games were made so I highly doubt that had anything to do with it......In fact from what I've read The Witcher 2 and Last Light both did decent especially Witcher
But the Witcher is an RPG which not only Japans tend to have a cult fanbase... not main stream..... Name some popular as hell RPG's and tell me the rpg elements aren't dumbed down like crazy good or not
But I don't know why you think this is going to do so amazingly?
Because there's a video of it?
There were plenty of videos of all the Atelier games...
Perhaps this will be popular in the indie crowd but that would be brought on by the art style
I just don't see how this looks to you like a standard JRPG because It doesn't..... I also don't see why 2 games that look western as hell would be ignored because their from Eastern Europe....
RPG's in the west are pretty well ignored just as RPG's from Japan.... maybe not quite as much but there is a cultural difference after all
What do you expect when the ones promoting this game are Westerners? ;)
You had best get used to the lack of "fairness" in the various media - there are plenty of subjective perceptions and notions.
@kiramasaki or just because this game looks gorgeous. I'm pretty sure no one is liking this because its western lol.
@Jerrytt2 I wont be surprise if they import this game on PSVITA the game is a perfect fit for it.
@pacrowan @SoreThumbsBill WRPG.
I know both DS was made in Japan (or korea?). But total american look and dark atmosphere.
But i have no problem with Japanese making western influence RPGs. In fact i applaud it. Dragons Dogma is the best RPG i played in the past decade. DnD arcade by capcom was easily the most in depth arcade side scroller RPG in history (up to 2013)
