When i see Bill Roper, all i can do is remember the epic fail that was Hellgate London and Flagship Studios. Gonna have to pass on this one.
lol you wont see 10 000 people or 100 000 people running around this gameworld, since the max per gameworld is.. wait for it... 200 people XD
sorry but when yourfirst patch after release consists of Nerfing almost ALL passive player abiltiies by 60-70% while simultaneously buffing dmg for henchemen mobs tells me that the development team ROYALLY screwed up. shame becuase the char customization WAS awesome, but now if you dont build a defensive themed character your forced to group almost the etntire time you play or the weak bad guys are going to kick your @ss all over the place. Espcially if you dont have a flight based travel power.
I find it funny that this developer diary talks about a massive, persistent world, since Champions Online's world is comprised entirely of instances. There's hardly any "massive" in this MMOG. Each of the major areas - Millennium City, Monster Island, Canadian Wasteland, Irradiated Desert, Lemuria, the tutorial - are instanced. When you travel to a new zone, a list of all the available instances pops up, and you can see that only 25-50 people are in each of the different versions of the zone. This excessive use of instances and the lack of a huge, persistent world really killed the game for me. But hey, at least making superhero characters is fun. Excellent character customization should justify playing the game for the free month.
Strange-Dude: There IS PvP. http://championsonlinedailynews.com/pvp-details-released/
Champions Online is a much better MMO then City of Heros/City of Villians. Action is much more fast paced. There are a lot of options. PvP is there but not open PvP (thankfully). Lots of powers to mix and match. Lots of area to explore. Fun, fun, fun! (Yes....you do have to pay a monthly fee)
Wow, what a bunch of whiners. Why are there people complaining about paying monthly fees, if you haven't played an MMO before, than just keep quite about how broke you are. All critics aside I love this game. All MMO's are a grind of repetitive quests. It's all about the atmosphere and the community. I have found this community to be friendly and lacking in kids and young teen players. That helps with players being polite and making a fun environment. If you haven't played it's worth a month of your time for sure. Time will tell how long I will play this game, I played COH for over a year a loved it. Fingers crossed.
Until they add PvP... I'm not interested. PvP is the only thing that makes an MMO worth coming back to when u hit endgame or even the only thing to keep me satisfied while im lvling. I mean how fun can it really be to fight computer controlled monsters that do the same exact thing every time. I like prestige as in you can kill a bunch of people and make a name for yourself where other players will be like to hell with that guy... he's ballin outta control! No PvP, No Sale.
ok are they making us pay for it or what because I have xbox live so is live gona make us psy more to play other games online
there are a couple of MMORPG's i would like to try out first so i can decide if it's worth to buy the whole game and pay per month. This game sure looks fun though
This game is a step in the right direction for getting out of the rpg mold for mmos. Obviously we don't have the technology yet to cheaply support a true mmofps style game but some day we will. I'm just really glad this game focuses on being more like an action game with out going instance based. (which is what all the mmofps games are that are comming out, basically mediocre shoots that require you to pay to play so you can have a really visual lobby)
so, are the pc gamers and the 360 gamers going to play on the same servers? as for the Canadian wastes, looks like where i live in winter...they nailed it..
@mrcha1nsaw cryptic have said that the games is ready for 360 but microsoft seem to be dragging there feet on letting them release it for some reason :/
I still think the PC and 360 versions should come out at the same time. I really don't want to wait to play this game.
I think its gonna be hard for this game to compete with wow which im hoping it does to add more variety to good mmo games. There are so many good looking mmo games coming out so I hope this game comes out strong because it looks really cool
I have to agree with dgnr82cool. having played n the beta for a couple fo weeks I found the same problem i had with CoX almost immediately. Get mission complete it, go get next mission, with the travel powers there is very little risk involved with going from point A to point B. Quests are not difficult by any stretch of the imagination, Enemy lvl indicators may as well not exist as taking on bad guys 2-4 levels above you is almost entirely without risk. The only improvement I see is that you aren't forced intoa loadig screen for every mission like you were with the CoX games. unfortunately beyond the character creation i've found very little incentive to buy and play this one. Just not enough there to kep me wanting to play, shame too. I had really high hopes for this title :(
axafreon You took the words out of my mouth. I mean even the king of all mmos WoW has very repetitive game play. I'm sure in year or less they will be adding more things to do. just like all other mmos
dgnr82cool "Played for two weeks of open beta, playing now, and other than character customization, I'm still trying to see what makes this so much better than City of Heroes. Not trying to be a hater, I'm just trying to inform. Again, the pc customization is simply unreal, but once you're done creating your guy, there has to be a reason to keep playing, and so far, I'm finding the game to be very repetitive, as in... get mission, finish mission, get another mission, finish mission, level up, increase powers, get more missions, finish missions, and that's about it. Fly here, fly there, teleport here, teleport there, just something missing, and I can't put my finger on it." Then why the hell u intreseted in this genre then as almost all mmorpgs are like this. were u do quest then lvl up and do more quest unlock powers ect. If u dont like repetivness dont play mmorpgs
1:30 the developer does not have proper back support, poor working posture, messy work station and he has not eaten his apple. I won't buy this until he's at least eaten that apple.
What!? Millenium City, Monster Island, a desert, and Canada!? why did they name that after a real place and all the others have new names? That's really dumb.
I'm getting my copy soon! I played in the OB, and was very satisfied with my experience. There's a lot of customization and lots of quests, which is what I look for in an online game. Sure, the game can be very repetitive, as dgnr83cool said, but I'm not very picky. I'm just stunned by the visuals and the environments you get to explore really early on in the game. As for the fighting, it has taken a big step from CoH. I love how you can move around as you are fighting to avoid some damage, and the difference in how you use all the skills is just plain fun. Some you just have to click, others you can hold and keep doing til the energy run out, others you hold and release for extra damage and other effects. It might not be at its full potential, but it will continue to grow if you just give it a chance.

looks great hopefully they work out the server issues with microsoft and i will buy it. http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-champions-online/17-1264/ heres a link to giantbomb
Looks okay, but I'm a little skeptical on some gameplay elements. Though I must admit that its customization elements are amazing!
Looks freakin' awesome, but why can't it be like Borderlands?... just you + 3 of your buddies online... no monthly fees that people can't afford... :(
