Breaking news to no one, everyone that was going to buy it still will regardless of what they post on here.
I liked Steam, but have become a bit jaded by how they treat loyal customers with their no refund policy for bad games. I had over 70 games, no problem, but hated one and requested a return, and they would not even consider it. I understand some take advantage of return policies, but the numbers of accepted games compared to the turds you want to return should factor in, reasonably.
I am all for competition now, even if the EA servers are not as good, some other services need to grow to compete with the juggernaut that feels bulletproof, and steps on people.
I prefer Steam, but I don't have much of an issue with Origin personally.
Steam is far more robust feature wise, but Origin has improved a good amount since its inception. That being said Origin is faster with downloads. (on 2 separate rigs)
As far as EA Customer Support, I have contacted them 2 times since I have had an Origin account, and both times were done very well. The most recent time, they went through many security checks for me, email on the account, security question, and a confirmation code sent to the email the account is tied to for verification.
While I agree EA is one of the major companies that has done harm to gaming, I see them slowly trying to improve on some of that. As far as Titanfall (which I am looking forward to) I thought it was to be expected the PC version will require Origin...
But this is only my personal experience with them, and hopefully it will become more of a norm for EA over time, but time will tell.
So what's so bad about Origin again? I have it and I don't see how it's so much worse than Steam that people won't get the game just because it's on Origin.
I liked Origin....when it was a company that made good games in the 90s. Now it is like some kind of dessicated A.I. trapped in some fetid electronic amniotic sack that was birthed by EA to make good games suck balls to play.
How is this breaking new? All EA PC game require Origin. Just like all Valve PC games require Origin.
@BoozerX For it to be a BF4 clusterfuck DICE would need to be in on it.. Ohh look they are not.
@kenundrum7 Have you ever tried returning an open video game to the store and asked for a refund because you didn't like it? You'd get the exact same response.
Faster with downloads than Steam?
I guess you must have some über connection then.
I download @ 30-36MB/s from steam. Which is a reasonable speed considering I only have 250Mbit.
There is no comparison between Origin and Steam. Steam has much more features, forums, videos, guides, reviews, workshop, user’s artwork, big picture mode for “couch” users, streaming between devices (beta), music (beta), the biggest catalog of games of any platform, etc…Origin is just an online store for EA titles.
@hammoud I can't speak to others problems with origin, but my experience has been overwhelmingly negative. Huge issues with logins, load times, missing games, etc. Their support system sucks. Just terrible customer experience.
Good for Respawn, they just lost a heap of potential PC buyers. This kind of marketing decision just proves how desperate Microsoft is to develop bad business practices and monopolize computing capability. Really not cool.
@hammoud customer support - the majority of lost accounts are from customer reps "giving' your account to hackers because they failed to do a background check. and simply its nowhere near the quality steam is... and they're forcing it on you.
@toddx77 Like, for serious. Why did this even warrant a video or anything? This falls under the "duh" category of news.
And I think you mean "all Valve PC games require Steam" : P
@rawkstar007 Dealing with the headaches from Origin is a heck of a lot less expensive than a $500 Xbox One.
@greaterdivinity Yes I meant steam. I was so dumbstruck by this article I wasn't thinking straight lol.
@greaterdivinity @rawkstar007 And its honestly not that big of a deal. I have to go through origin to play BF4 (after loading it on the browser) and Origin has never been the cause of a crash for me. Same with other games like ME3.
I have, however, crashed many many times on several games on Steam, and many times BECAUSE of steam. And dont get me started on how horrible chatting is on steam.
@jesot @CarlitosWay You agreed with this "troll" on several posts in the TOR comments. Origin chat isnt clunky, on the contrary. The friends list is built in to the window, and can be separated whenever. It also NEVER crashes you or logs you off, like Steam does for me. The other day me and my friend literally had to relaunch steam 4 times each just to stay "online"
