Chris Watters gets a hands-on demo of Gaijin Games' latest creation, Runner 2 - Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, from the show floor of PAX East 2012.
Did you enjoy this video?
"actually, i guarantee it!" Mr Roush seems fond of this phrase. and i'm not sorry that i don't know what a wet fart cheeseburger could be.
The new graphics look lame and less artsy. The menu screen graphics look better IMO
Part of the charm of Bit Trip Runner was the art style, so it's a huge shame that they change it, however i think its cool they made a diferent art style for each level...also, Checkpoints? really? i'm not a big fan of the term "casualitation" but in this particular case *sigh* although i have to admit is a nice touch they allow you to skip this checkpoints.
As a huge fan of the original i have my doubts with this sequel, but it looks interesting, let's wait and see.
I cannot believe us PS3 folk are finally getting some bittrip love.
I love the original Bit.Trip Runner. This one looks like it adds enough new gameplay elements to keep things interesting. The art style is incredibly ugly though, but I guess I can get used to it after a while. Commander Video is supposed to be hit with some sort of "reality" trip. So in a way this is like a detooned Runner. He said each level has a different art style, so maybe it gets better as Commander Video (possibly) gets closer to his bit.trip reality?
lol, "you just said it into a microphone, man!"
I think it's kind of funny that the video says they're playing a PS3 demo, yet the on-screen prompts call for things like "Hit the A button."
one of those games that pisses you off if you make a mistake. I'm looking forward to Roosterteeth's Michael on doing Rage Quit with this game. It's the pacing is too and will screw your eyes

Lol, years ago gamers wanted powerful consoles for great graphics and 3d processing. Today they use powerful consoles to play semi-casual 2D games. I just don't get it some times. If it was to play 2D games, I would like to see games like the old Donkey Kong 1, 2 and 3, Super Metroid and Mega Man X, X2 and X3, all for SNES. Those were great 2D games.
"lol...what's your deal Pffrbt?"
I don't like fake difficulty.
"I loved having no checkpoints, because when I finally beat the level it would feel that much better."
I'd rather have fun.
"And you should try to say something like this next time, "I don't like the art style". You see how that looks much more like an opinion, and if the game's creators were right in front of you, you could still let them know how you feel, with out being a phallus."
I really don't care that much though.

Jump over checkpoint, instantly hit something. GG.
wet fart cheesburger? hmm nope nothing.
I forgot to say. That art styIe is just utterly f***ing hideous. What were they thinking?
Glad they added checkpoints, for some reason people don't seem to understand that the only challenge that comes from a lack of checkpoints is artificial and bulls***.
Wet fart cheeseburger? I would say it would make a cool racing game. As you run, you eat the cheeseburgers scattered along the way. As the other racers come close to outrunning you, you use a wet fart as either an oil slick or as a stun gas to slow them down depending on how many cheeseburgers you have consumed.
Checkpoints...sigh. Looks good, can't wait to pick it up.
I got to play it and chat with the creators: Really great guys. They claimed all they could see were the bugs whenever they saw someone play, but I felt it was really polished.
The nicest part is that it includes checkpoints, which the original "Runner" sorely lacked. It retains a lot of the same feel, though the chiptunes music has been semi-replaced with similar techno-ish music with a solid beat. It works, though it looks a lot different visually than the originals due to the new graphics engine.
I'm disappointed it won't be launching on Steam, but I can wait. :)
