Total Annihilation was one of the most ground breaking, innovative games of all time. Top 5 for sure in innovation. So he has left his mark in computer games for sure.
Once you get to know him, you'll discover that he's one of the most annoying men in the industry. Fake character.
These people should make mroe 'behind the games' interviews. Chris is very very cool and nice guy, It would be nice to meet him.

@bodylotion mmm Total Annigilation was not good it was ground breaking.. if you dont know that then you clearly dont know what your talking about. Supreme Commander 1 was great, & he sold him self out on SupCom 2.
@RockySquirrel - Yes, Rollercoaster Tycoon was good, but you do know it was done by 'Chris Sawyer' of the Transport Tycoon fame, ok? Not Chris Taylor.

He created a couple of good games but nothing groundbreaking. Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander were pretty good but nothing really special. Dungeon Siege was a great game until you found out that it's too easy but the co-op was very good and Space Siege is a game i play from time to time but i never finished it. I like the other Chris Taylor more, the one who created Fallout 1 & 2.
How easily people remember the hits and not the misses. Don't forget this guy was also responsible for Space Siege, one of the dullest games of modern times :)
Chris Taylor looks like a really cool guy, they should do more of these behind the scenes. And haha, I faked my way into my first screenwriting job too XD
Supreme Commander - Forged Alliance is in my opinion the best RTS game ever! SC2 was a big disappointment, they changed everything that made the original game so special. But as Chris Taylor said himself, that u cant make a good game if ur in for the $$$, ironically that's exactly what they did..
They should do more of these Behind The Games. I myself want to be a video game creator when I get older and I was so surprised how much I have in common with this person. I also think being a director would be so cool and i play video games a lot too. Weird!
@Secondkin, Oh, I noticed, but did YOU notice how the two are pretty much exactly the same (Apart from a few maps and the max multiplayer participants)? Considering that a PC has WAAAY more capability than a console, if they wanted SupCom 2 to play on both the 360 and PC, they HAD to design it for the console... You calling half the troop number not much of a change? Besides that, smaller maps automatically focus you on tactics. There is no "global picture" to the fight because the map is too damn small to allow for one. You don't have the multiple battle fronts because there is no room to get out of radar range and maneuver where your opponent doesn't know what you're doing. No radar jamming, no stealth. Spy planes anyone? Somebody focusing on air can strike wherever without needing a carrier of some kind (No fuel for aircraft). No point in building your base in any specific way to take advantage of synergies between buildings. No transport ferry lines with 10+ transports set up to move your ground troops into a flanking position outside of radar range. No building templates. All RTS games focus on strategy? Sorry, but TA, SupCom and SupCom FA are the only "strategy" games out there, the rest (Also very good games) are way more focused on tactics, the immediate battle, because let's face it, the fights were too short for there to be any kind of long term plan. SupCom 2 followed that idea, quite sadly. Its focus now it short, rush-based matches that are over in 30 minutes.
Uninspiring super units? You can bite your tongue. The Supers in II are amazing. Seriously. The Kraken is neat, King stomping around the battlefield is impressive. Giant transports, flying aircraft carriers, units that create gravity wells and magnetic fields. These are neat.
I'm hugely disapointed with SCII - This unit cap kills it for me! Not to mention the AI SUCKS! C&C kane's wrath still the best RTS for 360
The guy's lost his way. He used to go on about keeping the fantastic TA dynamic instead of copying Starcraft, and did so more or less completely with Supcomm 1 - which was more or less TA2 in all but name. But the sequel was a botched job of dumbing down the gameplay, making a few token graphical improvements and more or less cutting out the single player completely. Let's not forget the magical retroactive upgrades, the tech tree pruned to a pathetic dozen regular units per side, and the rather uninspiring superunits.
Total Annihilation was and still is his best game. By far and away an amazing RTS, and if I could, I'd still play it over Starcraft.
I wish i was growing up when this guy was, it was allot easier to get into the industry back then and everything was an original idea.
I expect a lot from this developer (Gas Powered Games) sometimes they make good games, sometimes drop & flop, far from consistent, still need a lot of work, when compared with great developers like Blizzard / Bioware / Epic.

This guy seems really genuine and passionate about games, will be looking forward to more great games from GPG like SC and Dungeon Siege.
really enjoyed this, would love to see more things like this up on the site he seems very genuine and seems to have a real love for games, iv been kinda 50/50 on buying supreme commander 2 but his company deserves my money far more than any activision or ea as far as im concerned, so think im gonna go pick it up
@ Tekcor Sorry for the late reply. There are a lot of missing features but I'm only gonna mention the most important to me. Where is my counter intelligence? Where is radar jamming? Where is stealth? The cybrans were all about stealth and gorilla tactics yet it is all gone in this game. I think that completely changed what the cybrans are and you cannot call them the same faction that was established in the first two games. Also I do not like how the super units are made. You can basically spam them. Yes I know you can spam them in the first game but you needed an established economy first. In this game you got a factory for making supers and they don't cost nearly as much. Its more like a rush game. The point is that this isn't truely Supreme Commander and I personally think that Chris Taylor should have given it a different name. But that would have involved creating a new IP which probably would have been difficult.
I dont like the genre of supreme commander 2 but thats a nice video.. I'll try my best to be an animator for some game. .. . in the future!
I'd like to see more candid interviews like this on Gamespot. It really brings the more personal side of the games to light when you get a feel for the designers. There is no doubt he's got passion for the art of games and strives to make the complexities fun...but I wish Supreme Commander 2 issue came up along the line. I'm still trying to figure out what happened with that one, but I'm hoping the next carnation with be more of an extension of the first series. Great video...I'd love to see these more often!
I wasted by money on simplified console-oriented game. Please next time Either make Sc3 for PC exclusive or 360 Game designer should know that RTS is a Pc genre
Off topic: I remember reading a PC Gamer mag back in the day and they interviewed this "Chris Taylor" guy. We share names and I thought it was an omen that I should take up programming.
