i have been with the battlefeild franchise from the start back in 2002. overall 19 games and dlc's. when i got the battlefield 4. next day i got it refunded and never been so happy to refund. i guess gr8 things come to a end
I honestly think its the engines fault. It's a really sophisticated engine, almost too sophisticated for today. Even if you play locally, you'll find some of these issues to some extent. I'm willing to bet this game will remain fundamentally broken as long as it lasts just because the engine itself is broken.
I'm playing on XB1 with barely any issues. Once in a while sound will cut out for a minute or 2. But nothing major. All textures pops, one shot deaths, etc all seem to be fixed.
I will politely disagree. In my opinion BF4 on the PS4 is simply the best shooter ever made. Nothing made so far - can come close.
I can't agree with you more... at last one straight forward opinion...I just got PREMIUM with the naive hope of getting a decent DLC... crap it is.
Not even Levolution in China rising. "Levolutions" are getting more and more pathetic.
1) Closing a window
2) Kicking a rock
Good job DICE, you should have an emergency meeting with EA and fix this Shit PRONTO....
Great video, glad to finally see some honest coverage of this game on this website, instead of gushing over early previews and gameplay tid-bits and what not.
It's so frustrating to see a franchise you enjoyed so much and like this guy said, put so many hours into (not to mention the expense) turn into such a neglected piece of ding dong so quickly. The worst part is the number of mad supporters the game still has, unable to recognize or acknowledge its many flaws.
So why wasn't the actual review like this. This game is STILL broken and it sits on your site with an 8. Kinda show's you guys care more about the publisher than the game, and you can't deny that with any amount of charming British people
I am happy he points out about railing vaulting issues, and getting stuck on ankle high debris and such (at about 1:35). I practically cut out second assault from my sessions, because I can't get through a match without getting frustrated about something. Shame he doesn't mention the respawn bug.
Also I have to wonder why the hell haven't there been any nighttime maps. The lighting engine in BF4 is actually really good, the few places that are dark are really fun because things like flashlights and muzzle flashes are really important. If they make a nighttime map pack I'll be happy, I think it was a huge opportunity missed to not have that in the initial release or at least in the first two DLC
Ok most of the points about bugs and servers lacking population are valid but the complaining about assignments are not. Like the one that says destroy vehicles, you realize you do not need to use the support class right? You can use engineer. As for the one with the tower, it doesn't say you need to get sniper kills anywhere that's something you assumed, also the tower is not that bad for a sniping position you just have to be careful climbing up. For the shotgun one there are several places on Caspian Border, such as under the tower, to get good amounts of shotgun kills. And finally I agree that Metro wasn't that good of map but it was definitely a fan favorite almost everyone I know loved that map.
So Battlefield 4 is still a mess; oh dear oh dear... Someone seriously needs to find out what is going on behind the scenes. Is it DICE's fault? EA's fault? Or are they both to blame?
If you want an exercise in frustration and broken hit detection fire up BF4; if you want to actually enjoy your game time fire up some BF3; it just works.
The review was done before the game actually came out. The reviewers that Electronic Arts sent copies to were reviewing a game in an environment that is different from that which actual consumers had.
Give it to GameSpot that it couldn't wait until after the game is out commercially so that it had the same experience as consumers, but I would caution against thinking that GameSpot would change its review to reflex post-launch issues.
It isn't Polygon, if you haven't noticed.
i just checked to see how much time i logged on BF3... nearly 300 friggin hours *shock* 299H and 8 Minutes. wow. rank 91 Colonel Service Star 46. (Longest Headshot 239.02 m hmmm not bad)
and BF4 how much time did i log (ON RELEASE) before finally giving up on this frigged up game? a total of 5 hours and 33 minutes.
Wow. from one of my favourite FPS game franchises to one of the THE WORST. not complaining, just setting the record straight. i took the game back, said goodbye to about of the half total value of the game in my dollars so very unwell spent, and bought friggin Puppeteer, Sine Mora and Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. which sadly, even though i'm out nearly 40 bucks... is WAY more worth it then staving off from losing my mind, TRYING to play... TRYING to enjoy BF4.
I think that people (including gamespot) jumps on a bandwagon and runs with it. This game does have a few problems not going to lie, but I've put so many hours into this game and I'm loving every second of it. Haven't seen any of these bugs he's talking about besides i've noticed it locks durring transitions. Which will get fixed i'm sure.
Metro is Def a fan favorite... not my favorite.. but are you kidding me? You launch BF3 and there are NUMEROUS amounts of Metro servers. It was one of the most played maps.
Assignments are crappy i'll admit, but thats such a small part of the game....
GS I have something to tell you. You should have thought of this before you gave this game a score of 8/10. These problems was freaking obvious b4 second assault even came out.
Since I simply don't care for SA maps I won't buy premium until the next dlc, plus I have plenty of fun with vanilla and CR maps, what saddens me about bf4 is when it works this game is the most fun you can have on any fps, but it has to many problems, still 200h in totally worth the 40 euros I paid. I mean when you consider you can pay 60 euros on a game and only spend 6h in it (I'm looking at you uncharted 3), 200h is pretty nice.
Still gonna keep playing BF4, because even with all its problems its still a great and fun game.
i like battlefield franchise but it should be forbidden to release a broken game like this and even after all this time it is still broken. the biggest problem is the horrible netcode, the worst i ever seen in mp fps game. and it is a problems that have been talked over and over again on forums since bf3 launch and dice still didn´t fix it after all this years.
@jeffmonkey Ha! Good one.
@ziproy We're considering going back when all the DLC is in as that would be the most fair time to revise a score up or down. I can't promise you we will however.
@ziproy It's a review about the DLC, not the whole game.
@awesomeexo Which bug is that? I couldn't get aircraft to take off with the current runway length on Caspian, but didn't have time to fit that in the video.
@stealthyninja81 Tehran highway on rush was an underrated map in BF3.
@stealthyninja81 metro was a massive fav for me bt on ps3 bf3. it wasn't a greande spamming cluster f**k like it is now along with locker
@fern420 Rather funny you say that, I just recently reinstalled BF3 and only a select few servers popup in the browser (yes I've adjusted the filters on just about everything, doesn't change anything). And Punkbuster kicks me immediately after joining any server, which doesn't happen to me on any other punkbuster related game.
I remember Battlefield 3 being a lot of fun, I just got fed up dealing with the hellspawn that is Battlelog and Origin, and it seems like that's only gotten worse from my experience.
@Justin_G I didn't like BF4 at first either but after a while I have to say Im really enjoying it. I think the trick is to not take it as seriously as BF3, try to mess around and have fun rather than chase kills and the game is much better.
@Hoski0999 If you give people a mode to grind on they will. That doesn't mean they are enjoying the experience. People had genuine enthusiasm about Grand Bazaar which was a map that had plenty of infantry focused combat with a distinct Battlefield feel. Metro had almost nothing Battlefield attached to it.
@Darkangel2154 When all is said and done, I still very much enjoy BF4. The hope is that DICE gets better rather than people abandoning the franchise.
@turretx7 yah, kinda disappointing.
I don't have issues playing bf4 at all. never once was I not able to play smoothly. Since the beta have not had an major issue.
@jonaadams you are not entitled to your opinion.
@Razor10000 yeah, but at least as buggy as the netcode was, at least when things were working the game was fluid (for the most part, except getting stuck on things periodically, which sucked) the game was fun and exciting, the game wasn't a total grind, and the game wasn't completely bugged up the ass. PLUS IMO the maps were just better... the maps in BF4 had some cool concepts but nothing could save it from the lack of "appropriate room" in with which to play the game.
@AirDog80 @Darkangel2154I really like BF4 but every time i played, I would have horrible lag and glitches constantly. I would have bought the dlc if all problems and lag was fixed but they have chosen to not care to fix anything worth keeping fans. So in the end I rage quit and made so the game couldn't put me in that mood again.
@Romayo83 @AirDog80 @Hoski0999 Yea, even on PC it's important to find those smaller matches. 64 players turn into grenade spam nightmare.
