Battlefield 4 Presents More Shock, Less Awe

The visuals of Battlefield 4 pack less of a punch than the reveal of Battlefield 3, but the gameplay is as great as ever

Just hope the building coming down is not scripted like the one they showed on the BF3 trailers, which ended up being a building falling down due to an earthquake on the SP campaign.

To be honest I wished much more building destruction on BF3, if what they showed us here is real time during MP maps, that will do for awesome ever changing MP matches.

Too bad knowing EA though, they'll probably do the same Standard vs Premium edition they did on BF3 and that's already pissing me a little off.

mark, you are a douchebag. they will have more falling buildings in other maps. don't cry just because you only seen one falling building in one map.

This game reeks of playing it safe. Also not looking forward to playing 90$ to get all the stuff. I got BF3 on PC without the premium dlc packs and its almost impossible to find good active servers for just the core game. Which basically means the game was kind of a waste of money unless I upgrade which I think is kind of bullshit. Also, get rid of battlelog and give us a functional server browser please. Not a huge fan of grinding for 100s of hours to unlock stuff anyways.

I think the addition of the spectating tool is fantastic. I would love to see some increased saturation.

wat a rip off! so it's a slighly better version of bf 3. it's like upgrading Windows Vita to Win 7. should hav just release it as an expansion pack. definitely not getting until DICE make a new Bad Company game

Less Awesome, more shocking.

I'm honestly preoccupied by the last  statement in this video and how there's not going to be as much destruction as in BC2. To me that was a drawback in BF3 because being able to fight in an ever changing environment really sets BC2 apart from other multiplayers. Just Crossing my fingers

Why are people so on about "game play"? Since it is built by visual quality plus sound AFX that will give you good "game play" without these two, I don't think you will have a good time playing it. Besides, DICE is trying their best to change things around and create more different game styles. Big shout-out for DICE

I don't understand why this is one of the best games at E3. Is it the hate for COD and trying to take it over? Or is it just the overall popularity of shooters and still hopefully the COD killer while not becoming COD at the same time?

Like COD the game doesn't have to totally change each year for it to be a good game. Its a series so it's going to be simular to the last one. I am looking forward to BF4 and COD ghosts because they both look like a lot of fun.

Graphicly good, gameplay wise it's the same dull nonsense we've had for years. Nothing new, just upgraded graphics and destruction and i care much more about gameplay than shiny particals and better texture qualety

Graphics look a little bit better than BF3 but that wasn't the point here. Destruction played the bigger role. And pulling down a skyscraper to change to field was just great :)

I'm digging these big sprawling city maps. Tired of fighting in barren deserts and forests and shit with just a few military outposts scattered around.

Yah the games WOW factor in graphic sense was in 2011 and so. Now it's almost in here. So graphics won't WOW you [But BF4 did wow me]. So major concerns, as always is the gameplay. I see more promise. I want to buy it.

If AAA games could learn anything from Minecraft, its that graphic don't matter when you have great gameplay. They merely attract players, gameplay keeps them coming back again and again.

I understand what he means. It doesn't seem as fresh but at the same time I'm glad the graphics haven't been upgraded too much so I can run this comfortably. I'm more interested in seeing what gameplay tweaks they've made.

same graphics as bf3. they look washed, too dark or too bright and depressing. dice should go with graphics like bf2, more clear and natural.

"It doesn't look as amazing, but that still looks great"... is he fu**ing kidding? sorry but I've been following the E3 since yesterday and the only games with better graphics are Watch dogs and maybe The Witcher 3... maybe.

I'm fine with the visual, it's already superior to many games :)

The majority of the consensus in Battlefield 3's earlier poll even stated that most of the players anticipated the multiplayer gameplay / footage, not the new visual vista.

Because we definetely don't want another Crysis 3

curious to know if the destruction of the building is an event, or if its the result of physics.

I think this game looks stunning. I thought they were going to complain the game was all graphics and no gameplay, not the other way around.

This would seems weird of me to ask for anyone on a gaming site to please sign a petition, but I see it as a must. Please sign this petition because an airsoft field in San Jose, California is recently shut down for no good apparent reason.

I'm a gamer and also an airsofter. After playing all the fun games like Witcher 2, Battlefied 3, Shogun 2:Total, I get bored and must do something else new which happens to be playing airsoft.

People that care more about graphics than gameplay... sometimes I wonder if you guys are real gamers and not some critic from fashion magazines.

Your an idiot there's a huge difference of what they upgraded in battlefield 4 compared to battlefield 3. They're. Running 60 GPS 1080p compared to battlefield 3's 60 fps and 720p resolution. There's now a vast amount of camos for not only your guns, knifes and pistols, but also your vehicles now. You can now customize your pistol by adding 3 core attachments to it. You now have a wide variety of knifes to chose from affecting how fast and how lethal your knife kills are. There's going to be a shot ton more guns to choose from and all are guns being used right now today by all different military groups all over the world. Your primary weapon can now be customized with four attachments instead of 3 or 2. Your weapons can now be equipped with different grips, a wider variety of scopes and sites and multiple lasers, suppressors and barrels. Your gun can have different types of lasers and different colors, there are now for grips , angled grips, round grips and others all effecting how your gun plays out on the battlefield, there's multiple barrels and muzzle breaks too effecting how your gun shoots, and now they have finally brought in the red dot site we've all wanted and not only just the reflex and holographic. Snipers now have less glare when hiding making them harder to see and more realistic, they've also decreased the overly affective suppression which was a big problem in bf3. They now have a wider range of weapon types, they have dmr's , sniper rifles, assault rifles, sub machine guns, pdw's, lmg's , hmg's, carbines. Medics can now throw down not only a stationary med kit, but can also carry a mobile one that the can throw on to a teammate or themselves , same with a stationary ammo kit and mobile one. There's now counter knifing, instead of just being able to carry a frag grenade you can choose from flash, concussion, smoke and even burst your enemy on fire with incindiary grenades. Vehicles now have a wider range of weapons, perks attachments and abilities. All vehicles have a passenger seat now and both are deep with customization. Squads are now made up of six and instead of 32 man games the game can now support 64 players on new gen consoles. Squads now have teamwork kill steaks that are linked to the commander, graphics will be jaw dropping for the new gen consoles and will play incredibly smooth. 360 players will notice a tremendous difference in graphics, movement and playability . As for PCM, not a huge difference. You can now play as 3 factions and soldiers are customizable. Bf 4 has now implemented battle packs in which each individual player will get a secret battle pack depending on their performance. Battle packs will contain attachments, camos an dog tags, and each one will be different for each player. Some players will get a common battle pack in which a lot on players will be seen with the same camos or attachments, but others who perform greatly in matches will receiver rare battle packs with rare camos and dog tags. I can go on but those are just some of the changes ha.

@wongph In short, you just want Bad Company so freakin bad, that's all. I personally disliked the Bad Company series since it's kinda CoD storytelling wannabe.

Getting BF4 for sure

You're definitely wrong, and obviously not very smart.  Bf3 came out two years ago, maybe more. This has an updated frostbite engine and a lot of changes for the better.  Like playing commander from a tablet or player driven skyscrapers falling.  it's people like you who make gamers look bad.  Do you even know how many expansions packs were released for bf3?? A lot.  This is so far from an expansion pack your comment makes you look like an idiot. How about you get a fucking clue.

Windows 7 is actually much better than Vista ^^ not the bes comparation. (But yeah, it is clear that Windows 7 is what Vista should have been).

BC2 had pretty clunky movement. Like the no strafe while sprinting. Also I did hate when the defending team would just clear the environment of everything in a few minutes on Rush, making it near impossible to advance for the Attackers.

endouken

@lucas_2020 Destructive environments are what set BC2 apart from COD, Halo, etc.  If anything, DICE should be adding more destruction, more ability to dismantle a building brick by brick (rather than the currently invisible health bar) more bullet penetration based on ammo type and material the bullet is striking, bla bla bla.

After BF3, I'm not pre-ordering BF4 until I see some reviews/play a demo.  DICE will only learn if we vote with our money

@tightwad34

BF is just better than CoD. But they made it another milk-cow just like CoD. BF4 is just a glorified BF3 expansion that adds features that BF3 should have had and that BF2 already had (like squads and commander mode) (or building demolition as BF:BC2 had).

The new additions definatelly look good, and i'll probably get it with the money i saved by ignoring BF3's premium shit... but i REALLY hope they don't release a new battlefield on the same engine every 2 years adding  a few new features that could have been perfectly bundled into a single game (or 1game + 1 decent expansion).

If they do this again, they can go fish for customers in the CoD playerbase because i'll definatelly be out.

@DevilD2005 In the interview with Bach yesterday, he claimed that the destruction is not a scripted event. It is actually the result of destroying the building's support columns :)

@gruoch1 It feels a lot better to play, I think--a lot punchier, movement feels better, and the general 'feel' of it is much nicer. It's one of my E3 highlights, for sure. I'm certainly not complaining about the graphics, just that my feel of it wasn't the same kind of "holy smokes wow o wow" of when I first saw Battlefield 3 running for the first time.

@RoachRush Wbat's the problem with asking for better graphics and good gameplay altogether? Why demand less while everyone is making these companies richer? Seriously then why would people think of buying ps4s or xbox ones which promise better quality?

JmaN123654
JmaN123654

@RoachRush Unfortunately everyone is trying to get in on the suddenly discovered cash cow industry of gaming, and as a result, the focus is being put on graphics because they don't understand that game play is and always will be what truly matters.

Learn from the games that have taken years to get boring to play because of GAMEPLAY: Halo 3, WoW, Super Smash Bros Melee, Star Craft, etc.

Its been a while since a game has come out that I really wanted to just go play for HOURS because it was just that fun.

BF3 was great to look at, but IMO got burnt out fast.

@nicolasetespqr @tightwad34

By the way, its the same engine but and updated version. Have you ever heard of software updates?

Do you even know how many expansions bf3 had? it was a lot and introduced a lot of things that will be optimized in bf4.  I cant believe how dumb you people are. you act like you know better than dice what to do with the bf series even though they have been specializing in online warfare games since 2002.  The only thing you are right about is BF being better than cod otherwise you should study up on your bf before you post such idiot comments.

@nicolasetespqr @tightwad34 Totally agree! I love BF3 but the biggest immersion breaking aspect of it is that only certain buildings can be destroyed. Other things are either totally immune from damage (sometimes corrugated iron structures with paper thin walls) or can only be damaged in certain ways. This is inexcusable given BF:BC2 had exceptional environmental destructibility.

What I would love would be a BF game with Red Faction Guerrilla level of building destructibility. End of every game the whole map would be flattened. Kind of like World In Conflict.

@JmaN123654 Ill add to your list....Team fortress 2, 7 years late, More than 300,000 people still play it daily on PC.  More people playing a 7 year old game than all the COD players combined on PC.  One major reason? Mods, and still great support of the game from valve.  It doesnt have realistic graphics but fun addictive gameplay.

@krev23 @nicolasetespqr @tightwad34

I am happy enough with the current destruction system (BF:BC2 felt overall better in this aspect for some reason), i just can't stand these vulture company policies of striping new games of really old mechanics and then using those old mechanics as selling points for future games (look! commander mode! look! Fishes with AI!)... but specially i can't stand how most people here seem to fall for it like flies...

OMFG BATTLEFIELD 4 HAS A BRAND NEW COMMANDER SYSTEM, SQUADS AND YOU CAN DEMOLISH BUILDINGS!!!!!! INSTABUY!!!!

Welcome to 2005, buddies.
