Batman: Arkham City Interview With Dax Ginn
Randolph Ramsay sits down with marketing game manager Dax Ginn to talk about the success of the first game, raising the bar for Arkham City, vehicles, cannons, and much more.
@ascrewva I think the fans are wrong in this case, and a lot of times it's just the wrong thing to do to listen to the fans. They have, just like with asylum, a really clear image of what they want this game to be. It's primarily a fighting game and a detective game. They could throw the batmobile in there, making it also a driving game, but he makes a good point that isn't just marketing...this isn't a driving game. Honestly I'm sure the bat mobile is there, to keep consistent, probably even explain why he isn't using it, but they are giving us a massive environment, enhanced fighting and navigational tactics, open world accessibility, and cat woman as a playable character...it looks to me they are putting their work in pretty diligently...already we've got tons of people complaining that they can't have a driving game ontop of all of that. Some fans will never be happy.
The only type of multiplayer I could see in this game, would be a co-op horde-mode like, side mode, if any at all. Not every game needs multiplayer.
Single player has always been most important to me so no MP is fine. Batmabile, gliding is fine for me. This game is so awsome!!!
I'm certain this game is going to be pure awesome but no batmobile in a large scale mostly open world environment doesn't really make a lot of sense to me since they continually talk about how true they want to stay to Batman's character. The batmobile is another one of his tools that he always takes with him. So did he just park it at the gates and decide to take on half of Gotham City on foot?
Gotta love the marketing profession! They omitted the batmobile and then found a way to put a positive spin on that disastrous decision! Yes, I'd love to glide across Arkham city. But I'd ALSO like to drive across it...and have the additional armament and protection the batmobile provides. Come on Rocksteady! Listen to your fans outside the office as well!
I would love to see a Batman: No Man's Land game come out because there would be epic plus more options of characters that can be playable like Huntress, Nightwing or even Black Canary
Who needs multiplayer. I hate it anyway and you have to admire a developer who sticks to their principals rather than looking for the quick buck.
Who cares about multiplayer, multiplayer, multiplayer, online, online, online, just make solid single player campaign.
I don't mind if there aren't multiplayer in arkham city, I like video games for they singelplayer/campagin which makes me think why I play FPS's...
His next project should be a Superman game. I know he can do it if he's done awesome with the Batman Arkham games.
I really like the change they have made to focus on Batmans character, be interesting to see how it plays out. Good interview Randolph
Amen Dax! Great interview, I'm especially glad that Rocksteady did not give into the public fad of multiplayer, and remained true in order to preserve the quality of the game. I honestly can't wait for this one, this I truly believe may even rival MGS4 as the best PS3 game thus far.
Look at that fat cat...lol....he knows he is making a superior Batman game. Awesome game...First Batman I played that I played over and over.
The crocodile sequence in Arkham Asylum was possible the most tense moment I've ever experienced in a game. That and the scarecrow sequences were ingeniously done. I hope they bring back scarecrow.
I watched a friend play the first one, and I thought it was entertaining.... I was hoping the next one would have co-op, especially when I saw Catwoman was introduced, but as far as I know, that's been twice laid to rest. So, hopefully, by the next one, friends will be fighting Gothams crime together. Until then, all we have as gamers to do so is Lego Batman... gee wiz!
Fascinating interview...I'm especially intrigued by this idea of the different factions battling over territory in the city. This is looking to be something really special.
L.A.Noire, Skyrim and Batman: Arkham City? This is really beginning to turn out to be a great year for gamers, after all! I wasn't holding out much hope for 2011 because of the poor start (IMO) to the year with hardly anything decent to play, well apart from "Dead Space 2," That is, really turning out not to be the case though... Not to mention the other great titles, I haven't named. Great Stuff... just bring it, Bring It, BRING IT??? I am so glad that they have made the decision early on, not to include multiplayer... Not that I am totally against it, it just means all their focus goes into making a cracking single player game with a superb storyline!? "Holey Batf#*ks, Batman there is no Robin?" YEEE-HAAA!
Dax's statement at the end of the video about MP is why I think Rocksteady is one of the best studio's out there. The fact that he basically came out and said if you don't do something right why even bother is some advice some studios should take heed off. *cough* EA *cough* bioware *cough* Don't ad pointless crap to a game just because it's "popular" ad stuff because it adds to the quality of the game. Can't wait for this game. I pre-ordered it the day it was announced.
No batmobile? Thats dissapointing, but I get where theyre coming from, I cant wait to get this. I just hope it has more replay value than Arkham Asylum.
Okay so what do we here.. an open world with butt kicking action.. unlimited gliding.. top quality voice acting.. non-stop story-telling.. etc.. I'm DEFINITELY gonna get this!!! I think this might be a direct competitor to Elder Scroll: Skyrim
HAhaa somebody else noticed how he spits in his own shirt at 09:57 while laughing hard? asehiuoaeshesa
MuCH Flucking Love. "rocksteady games is about making absolute top quality games". Please spread this mentality period to other developers, and the rapists that destroy franchises, superheroes, and other IP's, with their crap cash ins that have nothing to do with genuine awesome realization of a product, character, or story. Good to know there are developers with people that are not threetarded.
I like Dax, he seems so confident and excited about the game at the same time. The game is gonna be on the top of the mountain when it hits shelves.
Risky or not it doesn't matter to me. Arkham Asylum is the standard by all other games based on comic licenses can and will be judged. The game was just perfect in every way. I just hope the game will include challenge maps like Arkham Asylum had. those were pretty fun and a good addition to the game. also i can hardly wait to see or hear alfred and oracle during the main game. Wonder if Robin will make appearances as well?! either way this is a Day 1 purchase for me because i still play the first game even having unlocked nearly all the acheivements. Rocksteadis now on my list of favorite developers. Keep up the outstanding work and i look forward to playing any future games you work on. (hopefully including more batman games)
I didn't stay in detective mode, I thought it was very boring and not as cool to fight in it. So I would use it for whatever then switch it off..
Gotta give credit to WB Interactive Entertainment. They're doing their franchise justice by making sure that quality on the sequels outdo the predecessors...as opposed to a certain other publisher who buys great studios and runs them into the ground. (Cough cough...EA...cough cough...) Keeping it on all three big platforms is a plus too. Nobody gets left out of the fun!
Great interview and great developers! Like the attitude with not caring about multiplayer.. Some MP games can be fun, but can't compare to a well executed story driven experience. And this game is meant for SP.
Hah can you imagine multi-player co-op w/ Batman and Robin? Or Nightwing, Batgirl, etc. or an of those combos? Especially in this game setting and aesthetic it'd be incredible. Hell not to mention Vs. multiplayer.
And how can you make a multiplayer from Batman? !0 batmen battling it??? Keep it like that please...
I'll be honest, most of the time I forgot I was playing in detective mode. And when I noticed and switched back it felt like i was fighting blind.
