this game's gotten the world's best assassins

Wow! There's a lot of talk going on here about killing Redcoats and Colonists... The way I'm seeing it, the game has the word "assassin" in its title. I'm betting that there are people that will die in this game regardless of their nationality. Do we complain about Americans being killed in Grand Theft Auto? A closed mouth holds no feet.

Hey Gamer_4_fun, why don't you go watch the Patriot. It'll do you some good. ;)

@Slingy from what I have seen and read, it is not the british who are having problem with seeing them killed in this game, but the Americans. Ubisoft said Connor will also butcher the Americans and it not a game about Pro American values, but we largely seen only the Brits get butchered. Why? Because most Americans are sensitive to this issue. If you ask me, it is hardly fair.

Runescape > Assassins Creed 3. Ubisoft just wishes they were better devs than Jagex...

Just lift the tax on their tea Britain and none of this brutality has to happen. Plot twist - the founding forefathers are all templars

To those who are arguing that killing British Soldiers is such an issue... let's just ALL play the game.... in harmony...

You know what? Screw what people think! I'm an American, and I'm damn proud we beat the British in that war! If it bothers you that Connor is killing British soldiers then go cry in a corner and don't play the game.

So, lay off the OMG the colonials were so awesome and those dumb old loyalists couldn't find their bottoms with both hands and a map, the rebels were just rolling over the redcoats with no trouble.

jpnelson82
jpnelson82

The game could have been made with the loyalists as the good guys and the rebels as the bad guys. Instead it's rebels are the undoubted heroes and the devs do their little flag waving " yay yay USA" bit. That's where it gets me a bit miffed.

Connor has been shown to kill colonists, go look up the AnvilNext Trailer, this American vs British thing is non-issue when America does not even exist for majority of the game. Anyway the facts are that colonists have killed by Connor's hand, and they have shown it, watch the entirety of the AnvilNext trailer and there is no doubt.

Who cares if Connor is killing British soldiers? It's a video game. Would I care if Connor killed more Americans then British probably not just as long as I get to go ape shit on someone.

Connor doesn't start out as an assassin. He starts out as an agent of justice, after witnessing the atrocities against his own people. He is generally and ultimately for freedom and not just the advances of the Assassins, at least not at first.

As for your second point... I'm not sure about whether he is going to think the Templars are only on the side of the British at first or not, it was just something that I saw as 'likely' in my opinion considering the fact that he is for justice and freedom, and the British are the tyrants of the period. Of course though, this was something I assume to be only at first.

Are not Assassin's revolutionaries in their own right? And contemporary means to exist at the same time. I don't see why this term is so bothersome. He and the revolutionary colonists have one thing in common: the ideals of justice and freedom. He doesn't work for the Americans, but he he co-operates with them because their beliefs are aligned, although, no doubt, Connor has more than just the freedom of the colonies at stake in his endeavors.

We haven't seen him kill American soldiers yet in what we've seen from the footage. That does not mean however that this won't happen. It is only logical that if Connor were seeking to kill a Templar under a well-known revolutionary guise, he may have to kill some colonial guards in the process. But since we haven't seen all the Templars yet, your guess is as good as mine. I just presume from their statement that Connor will be killing Templars on both sides that this might be something we will see that they have not yet revealed for their own reasons.

You ask why aren't we shown to be able to kill other peoples besides British soldiers? lol I can't answer that for you. But I also cannot deny the possibility that we will kill more than just British soldiers.

In regards to your last paragraph, I cannot withdraw my statement which you have quoted. The reason is because I realize the fact that this series' villains are indeed the Templars and no-one else directly. But indirectly, throughout the entire AC series, we are forced to have to combat those who guard these enemies, whether they know who they're guarding or not. What I meant to say was that there will always be a general 'force' or opposition that the assassin in ploy will have to fight or get through to take out his target. By default, this opposition will have to be one "race" or another. So my statement yet stands, expounded.

In conclusion, I see the Templars as the enemy in the series, that have infiltrated all nationalities, as you put it, and that is why the British soldiers in the game, whether they know it or not, become an enemy of a sort; not by being in direct opposition against the Assassin's, but by being obstacles to them.

@Kataphract Said "Huge Discussion" is what I said it is. Your right I didn't waste my time reading everything thing bc what I did read was people bitching. So instead of bitching about killing british your bitching that you don't kill everyone even though in every AC game I played you still played for a cause. People are bitching without giving the game a proper chance and without knowing the story line. Who's to say this game isn't a setup for the next one? What do we know is fact about Connor that says he won't be able to kill everyone? Fact is people are still bitching? Play the game then bitch afterwards.

Prime309
Prime309

Seriously? The huge discussion is because In AC3 we are killing the British? WTF is wrong with people?! Next thing you know they'll make a AC game where we are killing Nazis and people will bitch then too. Get over it it's a game? Don't like that the British are dying don't play it then simple as that they aren't forcing anyone to purchase this game. SMH

To those who are saying the British are getting railed on because that's all Connor's killing, I say broaden your scope a little bit here. The Templars who are on the side of the Revolution, which Connor is for, are extremely incognito, and unlikely to be thought of as Templars. Naturally, Connor must fight against the British because they stand in the way of America being free, and in the process find out about the Templars. He's most likely going to think the Templars are only on the side of the British, so of course a lot of British soldiers are going to die. You think they are just going to let him kill their generals, especially considering the possibility that many of them have no idea they're serving Templars? The whole point is Connor is ultimately going to be unbiased. If he discovers his revolutionary contemporaries are Templars [and it's stated he will], he will hunt them down and kill them. And while he's doing that who do you think will be standing in his way? American soldiers.

You guys are making a bigger deal out of this than needs be. All the past AC games we were killing Italians, French, Turks, Byzantines, Arabs, Jews, and Crusaders. But now that our opponents are English you guys are saying that Ubisoft is being over-excessive. You do realize that Desmond is going to have to kill American Templars? Someone has to be the enemy or opposing force here. Don't take it personally.

@Kataphract totally agree. first they say that he would take advantage of both sides to approach the target, and now it's the revolution's hero. Its very disappointing if they decide to keep it up like this. Maybe if you have the option to decide with faction to adhere or what targets to prioritize, well, its each one's choice to become rambo or british rambo.

Ok first I am going to say that I'm an American. I am slightly concerned about this game..When this game was first announced, Connor was styled as an impartial character, looking at the War of Independence from a neutral viewpoint. He killed Templar characters on both sides, whether they be British-general-types or American-traitor-types. Since when was he the "Hero of the American Revolution"?

In all of the trailers seen so far, he has been massacring his way through goon-style NPC soldiers, presumably to reach a more important enemy. What concerns me is how so many of them are British redcoats. For example, in this video, there are 52 instances of Connor killing a redcoat (yes I counted all of them) - He kills no Americans. Whilst I'm a massive fan of killing as many people as possible, this doesn't seem that balanced.

I know Ubisoft is a French company, so may not be pro-Britain (but that should really be behind them), this does seem massively pro-America and overly biased. Yes I know the British kinda dicked on the Thirteen Colonies and hindered freedom, but should they really be such massive antagonists?Personally I'd much rather have a game with two sides (you're not with either of them), where you don't know who's better and you have to make your own choice.ACI is a good example of this - you have Crusaders and Saracens, but with the Assassins separate killing both. ACIII seems to be in the old boring format of "You are with these people. Those people are your enemy. You will only kill them (plus a few traitors)."Does anyone else see what I mean?PS. I think it's kinda arrogant to say that this was the "first guerilla war". Someone on the PR team needs to sit down with a book of historyPPS. Sorry for the essay :P

The big question for me regarding combat will be if the enemy attempt to group rush you at points? Or will they all politely wait their turn to go one on one with the assassin and get slaughtered like they have in all previous titles.

And what about previous statements like "connor fights not on either side but has his own fights in the setting".... now he is THE hero of the american revolution. PR people can mess up everything ;) Still gonna buy it, cause its "one of the most anticipated titles"... of the year for me ;)

@Prime309Clearly you have not read said "huge discussion". We are not bitching about the fact we are killing British people. We want to kill British people. But we also want to kill other people to fit in with the style of every other AC game - Assassin's vs. Everyone.

Kataphract
Kataphract

@Slinqy You say "Naturally, Connor must fight against the British because they stand in the way of America being free". Thank you for proving my point. He is not trying to secure America's freedom because he is not on the side of the Americans. He is an Assassin. He works for no one but the Assassins, and kills British and American Templars. He is not there to free one nation from the yoke of another, or to help one dominate the other. He is there to kill Templars. Brutally.

You also say "He's most likely going to think the Templars are only on the side of the British". Why? If he was looking at it from the typical viewpoint of the Assassin order (i.e. an impartial not-allied-to-any-side-but-their-own one), he would realise that there could be Templars everywhere and thus he has enemies in BOTH camps. Hence he would seek out Templars on both sides, not just the British. So he would have to hack his way through a fairly equal amount of goons on both sides to get to the Templars he needs to assassinate. We do not see evidence of this.

Having said that, the only explanation I can think of for him not killing Americans is that they trust him, so he doesn't need to kill goons to get to the Templars, he can just walk through their ranks as he is an 'ally'. Maybe the Americans leaders knew of the presence of Templars amongst the British, but not the ones hidden in their own midst. They say to Connor "Hey look British Templars! Go kill them". Hence him essentially fighting 'on the same side' as the Americans, as the only intelligence he has on the Templars is that they are in the British ranks.

Kataphract
Kataphract

@SlinqyHis "revolutionary contemporaries"? Why would they be called this? He is not meant to be on the side of the Americans i.e. a revolutionary. As I pointed out earlier, he is an Assassin. He works for the Assassin order. Not the Americans.

You say there will be American soldiers in his way. SO WHY HAVEN'T WE SEEN CONNOR KILLING THEM YET? Maybe he only kills the American Templars in late-game, as he slowly realises the enemy isn't just the British? Not like producers to hold something major like this back, they normally include snippets from all over the timeline of the games (but no spoilers) in the trailers/sneak-peaks. Hence they should be showing Connor killing Americans aswell in these videos.

So you point out that in other games we killed many different nationalities of people. Contrary to your opinion, I'm not having a hissy fit because they are killing British people. I'm American, I couldn't care less. I'm having a hissy fit because I'm wondering why are we only seen killing British people? I want to kill all types of people (not just Templars, but goons aswell) in this game from as many factions as possible. Note: I'm not a psychopathic murderer, I just like to play games.

"Someone has to be the enemy or opposing force here". If you are referring to nationalities, NO. If to shadowy-ancient-enemies-of-the-Assassins, yes, they are called the Templars. Remember them from like, I dunno, every AC game there's been? They hide in both the British and American factions, as both are stated to include Templars. The British do not have to be the "enemy or opposing force here", because that role is taken by the Templars. They are probably seen as the antagonists as they are being controlled by the Templars (generals/politicians). Throughout the AC storyline the Assassins have been an independent faction. They have one underlying enemy - Templars. They have no national enemy, because the Templars infiltrate ALL nationalities.

Kataphract
Kataphract

 @Slinqy

It would seem that YOU need to broaden your scope, and stop seeing the British as the enemy. It would seem that they aren't - The Templars are.
