wow, i am still in love with ARMA 1. I am so impressed with these games. I just wish I was able to play, (ARMA 2) to its full visual ability before purchasing.

Proffrink - I never mentioned crosshairs..? Sorry mate but seeing as you haven't played the game i'm not sure you understood what i was saying. I didn't say you stop looking at the target completely. What i said was you don't look "directly at the target" meaning the center of the reticle should not be aimed at a moving target. Arma does infact simulate realistic ballistics, and while you may think it's boring, others find it boring to play games that feature bullets that move at the speed of light. As for the zeroing, it's only possible on weapons such as certain rifles or heavy MGs & AGLs, weapons which can and are adjusted in real life during engagements. You have to realise this isn't the fast paced twitch-fest that is every CoD/Battlefield game (not saying they are bad though). Maybe you should play the game before you join in a debate about it? :D

@isnot-important Actually, it seems that you have made the same mistake that gamers and games developers have been making for years. When you are aiming at a target you never, ever, ever take your cross hairs off it. Instead there are small notches to adjust the mounts on your scope to change the angle of the muzzle by about half a millimetre each click. Unfortunately, if ARMA did put this in then the game would become incredibly boring for snipers. The 'zeroing' idea isn't really legit either and most sniper rifles now zero themselves using lasers but hey, there's no such thing as a 'realistic game'. Just not plausible. Maybe you should check your facts before you go off one one :D

shadowcreaper - What the hell are you on about? Clearly it is you who know nothing about sniping, firearms, or even momentum. If you're firing at a distant target and it is moving to the left/right, if you aim directly at the target, common sense will tell you that the bullet travel time will result in the target no longer being where you were aiming. Seriously, i mean how can you not get that? I think you've just been playing too many corridor shooters. They never open up enough for a sniper rifle to be of any use. Also, do you really think BIS would be using a hollywood movie as their reference? That just shows how little you know about this game or the team who developed the engine. This is the same core engine that was used to create VBS1&2. Which is the military equivalent of Arma and was created by the sister company BIA with cooperation from British, Australian and American forces, and is currently being used by various military organisations world-wide. These are actual soldiers, who are using this program for mission rehearsal, tactical training and combined arms exercises. Arma was made after VBS and uses the same engine that the USMC/ADF etc.. approved. So you are basically claiming that you know more about sniping than actual trained snipers? Sorry but i don't think anyone is going to buy that.

with that video they have just proved my fear, the game isnt realistic at all when it comes to snipers.....no sniper in the whole world aims in front of above targets to hit them from distance, fact is you ALLWAYS aim on the target no matter the distance or if they moving or not, these are facts why do games still use stupid movies like "shooter" to use as referances to snipers...sigh

It matters because if you go to the store asking to buy clips, they will hand you little thin pieces of metal. And probably laugh at you. And also, Gamespot.... be a dear and quit naming military sims as "Modern First Person Shooter." and "Action." And the unpredictable online experience comes from you being a FPS player. Come on you reviewed Delta Force last year Danny boy.

a large percentage of people. If you'd ever actually fired a weapon, you'd know the difference.

...damn, the recoil sucks

slagman5

@Gant_1949 Uh... there is recoil, the part you see that doesn't move isn't indicative of where the weapon is aiming. That just marks the center of the screen, the actual reticle that shows where the point of impact will be moves with recoil, but it's hard to see it in this low resolution video.

DezmoTk

For those talking about the recoil, when you see the crosshair, the parts that dont move are just the centre guide. The actual crosshair is almost indistinguishable in the video, but it jumps quite a lot, especially if you've been running, or have been shot.

Lol the alert noise is the same as the original operation flashpoint. ahh the good times. This game looks so pimped.

Then again, this game does look fun, Arma 2 was buggy but awesome anyway. If this is just a more polished version of that I'll be happy. Just bring back more weapon sway and recoil please!

edgefilm2001
edgefilm2001

Um, didn't this game used to have...recoil? What happened? A SAW would walk up like crazy if fired from a standing position, in fact that's how you use it, letting it walk up to your enemy. Come on Bohemia, we're not afraid of simulated recoil, we can hack it!

Gelugon_baat - From what i've read about OA they will be putting a bigger emphasis on room clearance and CQB. Alot more buildings are open and able to be entered and the AI (hopefully) know how to move around towns better. That being said, long range battles are a huge part of the A2 style of play and i don't think i'd enjoy the game as much if it was more like CoD's 20-100m engagement distance.

Lion - I'll assume your comment was just a (poor) attempt at being amusing, but no, this expansion pack includes two new islands/maps, enhanced engine capabilities (i won't go into detail), new features such as FLIR, working backpacks, a town generator, etc... Also included are US/Czech/German armies, a handful of various enemy units and a bunch of new vehicles/weapons. It also adds more tutorials. To those who appreciate the game, the expansion is well worth it.
