wow when you put it all together like this, (looks over at entertainment center and gives xbox 360 a dirty look)
I guess that I have been extremely lucky then, given the fact that I had two 360's from 2006 onwards, without ever having to return either one of them because of RROD. It sort of pissed me off that I had to start paying for services that used to be free and still are for elsewhere, but the good has always outweighed the bad for me.
I had some amazing times with the Witcher 2, Halo 3, Portal 2 coop, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Fallout and many other titles. I did, however, regret the fact that I never got to play great games such as Journey, Uncharted and a few others.
I am still in doubt about the purchase of either of the new consoles given that, in some respects, they do not differ significantly. The Xbox has always gotten my preference with regards to the controller; I just feel that way. The PS3 grabbed my attention with th services offered and without having to pay for most of them. Anyway, I just to want to have fun and enjoy the games, as I have done with previous consoles. Be it with Microsoft or Sony.
No matter how many times I watch this, the part where he asks, "Ever wonder what the bottom of your Avatar's shoes look like?.... WABAM!", always brings tears to my eyes lmao.
i went through 3 xboxs, and 1 ps, all red ring, i remember when it first happened too, my first one was refurbished and it bricked on me the first day, the second one was the one they gave my from ms, and that went on for 3 months then i said fuck it and bought a new one, and before i could be let down again i sold it and got a ps3 2 months later, and been loving my decision ever since.
The 360 was the only console I purchased this gen, and in many ways it was a mixed bag.
On one hand, I loved some of the games on it, the Mass Effect series, Dragon Age: Origins, Alan Wake and the Batman series. I love the controller too.
On the other hand, I hate the direction Microsoft took it (and continues with the Xbox One). Online multiplayer sucks, I wish it didn’t feel like they’re abandoning great single player experiences. I hate how the dashboard is cluttered with ads and “recommendations” (in other words, more ads). Xbox Live isa rip off, there’s no reason other subscription services like Hulu and Netflix should be tied behind it. I’m angry at myself for getting duped into buying a Kinect 1.0 – so much “potential” big piece of shit.
The sad part of this whole story is that I’m probably going to buy a PS4 next gen, not because it appeals to me on its own merits, but because it’s not an Xbox One.
So, i have just one question... I am not a fanboy, and i owned both consoles. But i was reading through the comments and a lot of people are saying that they bought 3-4 xbox's. So isn't the actual number of Xbox 360's sold until now actually lower but because of all the RROD's and people needing to buy several it looks like the console sold a lot more? While the ps3 didn't broke so much and actually the people that bought it are more or less new people that did not own one? Just my thought on the sales numbers of consoles.
@Chris Watters - "Mass Effect 3 on...2 discs?!"
What you talkin bout Willis? Mass Effect 2 is also on 2 discs.
Did you mean Mass Effect 3 being accidentally shipped and sold in CoD boxes/packaging. I'll never forget that. xD
Things I'll never forget about the Xbox 360...
RROD. Xbox Live Silver being next to useless. Microsoft ditching single player experiences in favour of online gaming. Call of Duty scrubs. All online scrubs.
I will pass my 360 slim to my lil bro.. ONE here i come.. Have a ps3... But only for exclusive games... If its multiplat i stick to my xbox :).. That being said.. PS4 can wait.. Mayb next year
I enjoyed my 360 and PS3, eventually I will get a Xbox One and a PS4 down the road when more titles are available.
ill only remember the amount of xboxes my friends had to go through because rrod. now they are all getting ps4
I bought 3 xbox 360's and 1 playstation 3. If all my friends were actually on PS3 , i would have quit buying xbox 360's every time they broke. That one year on the market before Sony help xbox 360 recieve a strong base of loyal costomers. Xbox Live and PSN are actually the same with little differences. One being free and the other MICRO$OFT scam. The Playstation updates were terrible and took hours to download. The Xbox was fast. I owned call of duty on each brand and they both play thesame on line. Really good, sometimes alittle lag. I had my playstation 3 for 7 years and it started to mess up on me about 2 months ago, but it still works. I had 3 xbox's in 8 years. My current xbox is more than 4 years old works. The other two were rings of death. The real reason why i Love Playstation over Xbox is the exculsives. I love god of war, uncharted, Heavenly sword, Metal gear 4, heavy rain, beyond two souls. I also love on the xbox Halo and Gears of War. But my list of exclusives are on the short end for the xbox. Exclusives and a less faulty system makes me Going PS4 all the way this time.
I have had five Xboxes in total. Two Red Ring of Deaths were covered under warranty. The rest were not. I am glad you made great games M$ otherwise, I should have driven the Seattle and started stacking them on your driveway.
Owning an Xbox is a bit like supporting Mario Balotelli. Its wrong in every way possible. Its always in the press for wrong reasons, battling critics either about its inferior hardware which never stops failing or silly presentations that are always miss interpreted by its critics.
Most importantly though is the few moments that it does what it does best, its mesmerising in the likes of Halo & Gears of War. (only had an xbox 360, every other Gen has been on PS).
overall its been a charismatic bit of kit since day one, its sad to see it reach the end of this particular avenue. Though I have a feeling history has a way of repeating itself. With yet again a sloppy start and inferior hardware, its antics seem to have reverberated enough to influence its successor to fighting with its backs against the wall.
Good luck Xbox perhaps I shall be cheering in your corner in a few years, for now I will be looking over you like a proud dad while I play on the PS.(Its cheaper).
Interesting to see what analysts say in a few years.
My most fond memories are raging on Halo Reach during college with my roommates while we chain smoked cigs (thankfully I don't do that anymore) and drank whiskey. Damn good days.
Alan wake was awesome, still awesome. Finally got to play it on PC and was really pissed it took years to get to PC. But even years after it was released, it was awesome.
My experience was.
Great exclusive games.
Lots of fun with Friends
Hated Xbox Live Gold too expensive on my country
Expensive HDD for SLIM it took a kidney
Nice Avatar and themes system.
I haven't used mine in 5 hours... wait... Ahhh, that's better.
Mine started having disc read issues last weekend. The thing was used pretty much every day for 7 years. Oh well, I guess it is a sign.
@Shantmaster_K actually its 'well BAM' but ya, it cracks me up every time
My suggestion is wait. PS4, X1, neither are impressive. At least not now.
@northArrow I agree with all of that, well said.
Actually if you RROD'd, MS fixed the issue on their dollar. A lot of people who purchased multiple xbox's were just getting the updated version of the console. I owned the original launch 360 which RROD'd on me. MS replaced and I bought a new 360s after selling my old one. I also did the same with the PS3
@LE5LO Black ops 2 being shipped with a second disc containing mass effect 2 code only affected the PC not the Xbox.
@wolfyrabbit They still lose
I forgot Forza . Very good exclusive. But i also had Grand Turismo which is very good. I like them both equally. Alan Wake was a ok exclusive, it stillcould have been alot better. Ps4 all the way this console cycle.
I would have done the same thing with all of the PS2's I had, but Japan was just too far away... Pieces of crap.
F**k it I'm buying the XO!... I have a problem.
Everything on paper tells me I should go for the PS. Its seems logic to buy a PS4 anyway.
Perhaps "Thinking can only serve to measure out the helplessness of thought" - H. Rider Haggard.
Halo 5 you better be F***ing Grand!
@nyran125tk Still waiting for 2. Hope they'll release it on the 360 too instead of just the XBONE.
@shinyyoungster Very similar experience actually. I don't think one had better exclusives than the other, it just depends on your preference of game types. Uncharted bored me with the puzzles, Heavy rain lost me, Metal Gear was awesome, Heavenly sword was okay. After all the abuse, I still favor the 360 as it has a far better dashboard and more importantly the online experience blew Sony away. I will probably own both systems again this gen, but I can't ignore what Microsoft is doing with the system and Kinect, you just can't get that with PS4. I think the PS4 will be identical experience to PS3 with a better visuals. I lose my cable remote a few times a night, it is awesome that I can just yell at my tv now, while still being plugged into the gaming world. What I am really excited for is an actually good fighting game for kinect. I am a martial artist, so this really appeals to me. My wife loves the dance games and I love to watch her dance, so it's win win.
@voco321 Don't do it man, it's a trap!
@Sevenizz At 0.4% failure rate for the ps4, I don't think so. Your argument is invalid.
@lostmyaccount @shinyyoungster VERY different experience, haha. I had 3 Xbox 360's, the first one broke because I was packing it up to take to my mom's house after being at my dad's for the weekend and I dropped it. Microsoft fixed it and returned it to me FREE in about 2 weeks. Then I had that Xbox for about 2 more years (4 years total). Then when Halo 4 came out I got the limited edition Xbox for it because I am a beyond wild Halo 4 fan and I wanted to end my 360 career with my favorite game and Xbox. I will be going Xbox One all the way! I'm glad to see Sony is doing well though, hope this sparks even more competition and even better consoles, games, etc.
@Sevenizz Open your eyes or learn how to read I typed 0.4%. And how do you know it's not the reality. In their position I don't think they can afford lying to the mass. I'm not saying it's impossible they're lying, they could be and they could not be. Don't come to conclusions without knowing the reality of things yourself.
@Sevenizz Let's say 8%, 20% the most, it's still lower than xbox 360
@Sevenizz still even at 4%, it's much better than the 360's launch, the 360 had a failure rate of 54.2% according to a gameinformer survey. I'm pretty sure the ps4 is even doing better than the ps3's launch failure rate.
Edit: "In the September 2009 issue of Game Informer magazine, survey results were published in which among nearly 5000 readers who responded, 54.2% of those who owned an Xbox 360 had experienced a console failure for that system, compared with 10.6% for PlayStation 3, and 6.8% for Wii."
