It happens every year, Its all easy to make fun and games against Nintendo but they end up releasing amazing games and this year was no exception and next year is only gonna get better especially with the much anticipated Zelda after how well Link Between Worlds shook the formula.
Everyone laughs at the 2ds, but I got the 2ds pokemon x bundle christmas and love it. It was cheaper, it fits in my pocket no problem, and handles great.
Nintendo The great. Oh Old Titan of gaming. Nintendo has had many troubles this year. They had a sour drought and the 3rd party support was Missing like a taco infront of a South american. Love them all! Nintendo has been in a tuff spot. But now since we have the all the Great Systems out we can now pick and take what us gamers Like. But It dosent mean we should all be the same It is gods blessing we have nintendo and not another S+M. We need that Different Gameplay those games that you dont want to trade in after 1 month of straight playing it. Thanks for a great Year. and I wish all the 3 Bigboyz to do well. Because if one drops out its worser for us.
They should make another re with fixed camera angles exclusively for Wiiu, re remake and 0 were my favorite games.
I think Nintendo will just continue to pull themselves out of the slump with more good software releases. Maybe it'll attract more third-party devs, maybe not. Either way I don't think the Wii-U is gonna fail. I think making more games that use the tablet in interesting ways will also go a long way in helping the system's main selling-point.
Nintendo will win with a addon for the Wii U. 3DS player. Attach it to the Wii U and you got access to the entire 3DS library with the comfort of the gamepad and the big screen in your living room. Not only that they could add features like screen smoothing to ease the screen quality. If they do this then people will have options. Like being able to play 3DS games with the comfort of a big screen. Or 3DS players won't have to strain their eyes on the little screen.
Bought a 3DS for Fire Emblem but region lock is killing it for me since Europe region is hilariously overpriced, 60$ for a handheld game! Not to mention the games never get any price drops for both digital and boxed versions no matter how long you wait. Ended up only buying Pokemon XY and Bravely Default after Fire Emblem. I always get that "this is good but not worth the money I paid" no matter how much I enjoy the games. Even though it has some good games, it's a ridiculously expensive console overall for an avid gamer.
I had bought a Gameboy back in 1990 and had immense respect and love for Nintendo back then, lost all that after my 3DS adventure this year. Region locking, over-pricing, hilariously prudish censorship during localization, company execs politely ridiculing the customers with lines like "we're aware of the request but no can do" when even something as simple as account ownership persistence is demanded put them on my list next to EA and Activision-Blizzard.
Total global hardware sales for week of December 14, 2013 (from VGChartz.com):
Nintendo - 1,288,964
Sony - 956,655
Microsoft - 606,177
Oops! Sorry to pop a few bubbles out there with actual facts rather than feelings and innuendo!
Jump ship while you can. The Wii U won't get any better than this. I bet Zelda won't be released before 2015.
Nintendo does show promise for the next year. I think they will surprise us with a new metroid game reveal on the wii u next year and alongside the Zelda game: Hyrule warriors and super smash bro will be huge console sellers. Overall I believe the 3ds was the winner of all consoles this year. I believe it would be smart for them to remake the japan only fire emblem games for the wii U or 3ds would maybe make their profits higher next year. Good job nintendo, I have bought more games from you this year than any other.
Please Nintendo, make new games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon for the Wii U; I have high hopes... Pikmin 3 was a step in the right direction but we need more!
i got about 20 wii games that are fun as hell to play. from xenochron to zelda to trauma center to paper mario to all the rail shooters, wii was not only a success, it's got a core following both in the mod world and official. wii-U is tight but was released at such an awkward time. i understand they were lookin' at graphs statistically speakin it was supposed to ride the wave of its predecessor but people just saw it as bulky controls and a new paint job. nintendo is far from dead, however, due to their passion for wanting to give the alternative to PC gaming. xbone and ps4 are outdated computers with a couple exclusives. valve knows this and flauntin their prices and ease of digital purchases. build a computer with a beautiful media center case put that in your cabinet instead when the girls come over be like, "yo wanna see somethin' cool?" and turn crysis on and expect hugs all around worked for me (though child support is on the uprise.) just quit buyin' outdated hardware with forced advertisements and the multiplayer isn't even free?! it's practically 2014, you deserve more.
and i think younger kids (10-13) might not be able to get ma17 titles but think maybe next year they want the smut and most parents give it to them
the question should be is it that hard for EA and other's to make games for the wii / wii U???? they did a bad job last gen now it looks like they dont wanna look bad so they gave up
I have many things to say about the WiiU but I won't keep repeating myself, not too much anyway :). However, I will say that tonight I saw a repeat of last year's Christmas when I got my niece and nephew a WiiU.
When they opened the WiiU last year, they weren't very excited, they didn't seem to care at all and didn't even want to set it up here for the several days they were around. I chalked that up to confusion about it since they already had a Wii. But now, they still aren't very interested in their WiiU, they also have tablets now and are far more interested in Minecraft PE it seems. Just tonight they arrived here late for Christmas and opened their gifts, one being Super Mario World 3D and again, they weren't very interested. I really think Nintendo has lost a lot of ground with the kids/parents and casual audiences, and like I keep saying I think a lot of that is due to mobile platforms. Anyway :).
Side note, that live action Link Between Worlds footage, I don't think I've ever seen that before, it was kinda funny.
There has never once been a nintendo console that has started off slow and then picked up... ever. I say by next year the Wii U will be close to where the 3ds is at now, with a nice hefty library of games, mainly first party, but still more than worth playing which will then move consoles and with that it will pique third party interest. Enough doom and gloom please, anyone who has been following the game industry in the past 4 years or so will know that nintendo is more than capable of turning around a "failing" piece of hardware and it is very likely that the Wii U will be no exception.
Smash Bros Wii U and Mario Kart will tilt things back in favor for the WII U. I admit i dont play it as much as PS3 but its a dope system and i'm happy to have bought it (a year ago). The PS4 and XBORE 1 are just flashy and have only a handful of good games for now
@gatsbythepigI HATE video articles!
@Ultramarinus Were games cheaper in the Gameboy era? I don't know, I'm really asking. And it's not just Europe that has expensive games. As far as I know, Japan is just as expensive, and Australia even more so. Americans are just spoiled. You're right about the regionlocking and censorship tho.
...Just realised your comment is almost 9 months old whoops
@lupitamore Because most all Nintendo games are great and fun...and because it's y'know, a video game site.
@b74kd3th Sales aren't everything. However, the Wii is indeed a joke. Always has been. Nintendo lost it after the 64, which was incredible.
Must be why its dominating Japan right now, and that uptake will translate to america next year.
@b74kd3th Sales have been picking up considerably though... >_>
Now, are they stellar? No, but the continual rise in sales shows that people are starting to look at the Wii U.
@iloveyourface I agree with everything you're saying but I'm just sitting here feeling kinda weird because I still can't tell if you're trolling or not haha.
@notjustin Good question, why doesn't anyone make games for Wii U? Is it Nintendo's fault? Or everyone else's fault? I don't know what the reasoning is, but they certainly could use some 3rd party support.
@bizuitYeah but that's kinda the problem. The vast majority of people play 3rd party games. Look at the 360. For the last 2 years I was on live all we had was 3rd party. Halo 4 was like their last major title. They survived on their 3rd party games alone. Nintendo just needs that middle ground like Sony and MS. Unfortunately they can't seem to find it. Maybe Bayonetta 2 will make some sort of impact. If not is back to SSB and MK to make the sales.
@uglypinkmoose lots of great downloads remix, d & d is on sale, duck tails is on sale, starwars pinball, castlestorm looks great and i just picked up trine 2 on sale
@AnGrYpHiLThe 3DS had a pretty rocky start...until the price cut. People have been sounding the death knell for Nintendo home consoles since the N64 days. No doubt, the Wii-U will never reach the sales of the Wii but it's hardly anything to worry about. I'm looking forward to 2014 where hopefully Nintendo can turn the Wii-U around.
@AnGrYpHiL One example would be Virtual Boy.
But we don't talk about that. *shudder* >_>
@Metallicwolf29 Lol funny.
@Metallicwolf29 Now lets talk about the least likely thing to ever happen.
@notjustin I have Steam for that kinds of stuff.
I avoid buying digital games on consoles because you just lose em once the next console comes out
@jflkdjs Is not laziness. Is business. The interest by the vast majority is not there. Why would you wanna develop for a console that isn't gonna be profitable. Look the truth is 3rd party games sell horrible compared to Nintendo offerings. Mainly because Nintendo owners don't support those games in the first place!
@dani_i89@notjustin@uglypinkmoose i'm 30 thats why i remember ducktales i did LOVE that show love playing castlestorm games online and pinball is always good just never realy worth paying a 1200 to get a standing pinball. just keep tell your self that i'm less of a hardcore gamer then then cuz i'm not playing cod like a drunken frat boy
@notjustin If your computer crashed your steam account would still have all your games. so all you have to do is download them again.
Eventually a game console goes out of date. I mean you can keep your old consoles around but even then would if the servers are shut down and the company abandons the console?
And you can't transfer games to the newer consoles because they want to charge you again.
I'm not a PC fanboy I just think it's a safer platform for digital titles.
And you can buy a 360 controller for it so then your all set.
I can understand not wanting your games available when you work though.
@uglypinkmoose@notjustin you can put them on a flashdrive and keep them. have your harddrive crash and you lose everything to and like it tell all of you in the masterrace i dont wanna do my work stuff on the same thing i use to get away from work stuff. NO work email, now papers to wirte up, no spending hours looking up state reg.'s
