This is cool. Hopefully my overpowered PC will have something nice to play soon. Unfortunately games are geared towards consoles so high end PC owners have been getting diminishing returns on hardware as the consoles have aged. While this is not what I had hoped for at least it will start giving us PC gamers some good looking content again. Would have been cool to be able to mod it. I Don't understand why companies dont allow this already. Easy money in a market that needs it to continue to grow.

Mark and Martin discuss the recent next-gen Xbox rumours, and whether the Xbox 720 has any chance of keeping up with PC.
Wow that might as well have been said in Dutch, that video? I have no idea what they are saying? lol I'm getting too old!
They will NOT go with AMD. Look at the power consumption of the 8 core AMD processors, its rediculous, more reasonably, microsoft is getting intel to make a custom 8core CPU based off their atom or ultralow power series of CPUs.
@way2funny But this is off the shelf, a console will never have off the shelf, as it takes too much room (physically) so it will have a CPU built for it, and that could be AMD.
@LeMeAtOm Some have 8 cores, but not physically, they have 6 physical cores and 2 logical. AMD have an 8 core CPU but it is poor, 6 core is the most you need (this is non server btw).
i was thinkin microsoft was gonna pull a crazy stunt and make a new type of cd reader that would be better then blue ray. guess i was wrong lol
The RAM has been the thing holding back the 360, sure the other stuff is pretty damn weak but the 512MB RAM wasn't very good back in 2005.
@pongley PS3 has the same amount of RAM, the CPU and the disks let the Xbox down, PS3 has equivalent graphical capability but has better a CPU and of course blu-ray.
@SpazldNinjaDude @pongley direct X? Does it have that? pretty sure no... cause microsoft owns that :)
ppl understand
Cool supergamingpewpewstyle PC = $ 3,000.00 (2 years later and it is obsolete, and games looks ust like current gen console games) and everyday u wake up u are worried about have 50 gigs of ram and the best pc ever
Console = $500.00 (7 to 9 years of usage)
@chocomatrix 7-9 years of usage. and the last 4 years of that you will get terrible graphics for the time and at very low fps. Just like the majority of games available for both systems right now. Consoles were great when they had the normal 3-4 year life span in my opinion.
@TheJamin LOL. Console graphics don't make a lot of a difference to PC. Bioshock Infinite will have a very SLIGHT difference. For the crappy console specs, they crank out some beautiful games. Oh, and look, I can play them on my 46" HDTV while you're stuck with a tiny 20" monitor. I hate PCfags. I like PC, but when they rave about how much better they are, they just look like douchebags. F that.
@Bobz216 @TheJamin Console graphics DO make a difference to the PC Platform. we get all the crappy ports. the fact that both the new platforms are going to be x64 should benefit us PCfags quite nicely. I'm not here to bash anything. But i'll take my 27 2560x1440 monitor over your 1080p stretched over 46 inches any day. I personally haven't seen a beautiful game in a while. The last one I thought was pleasing on the eye on a console for the time was Kameo on the xbox 360.
I like consoles. I do, but they need to keep them for a 4 years max. This fact has nothing to do with the pc platform.
omg this is like the best specs ever!!! cant wait to have it. I would pay $2000 for it easily.
8 core cpu... but they are quite weak...
The gpu is DirectX 11.1 compatible, but it's also slow.
eh w/e, ill just wait and see what the price is in the store and the type of launch titles they have
it doesn't matter if the specs aren't top of the line, its a specific use hardware setup, it will not run a heavy OS, it will not have to deal with different components compatibility issues, and the games will be made specifically for that hardware, and not for a multitude of components, so please don't be so ignorant to compare its performance to that of a desktop/laptop pc.
@riotinto876can we at least compare it with PS3 CPU? PS3 CPU has 230GFLOP, Core i7-980 @4.5GHz has 97GFLOP it has 6 cores and 12 Threads now, new Xbox will have a CPU with 8 core on 1,6GHz that's way much better than Xbox 360 but not even close to PS3 CPU.....
Now though, explain your thought process on i/ processors existing in 2006, I would love to read about it.
@Auronvolgar @riotinto876 In the words of Auronvolgar: "I don't own a PS3 but i'm still a fanboy for it!"
@Auronvolgar THEYRE NOT EVEN BETTER xD. i7 processors DID NOT EXIST in 2006. Also, that's only one core you're looking at. We have multiple. Your arguement is officially invalid. Also, in 2006 we got about 1.9 ghz. not mhz.
@Auronvolgar doesn't matter, skyrim runs better on xbox. :) And every other for that matter. And we don't get HACKED. so, yes, i'll start a console war, but not a pc-console war.
@riotinto876 @Auronvolgar i didnt say that there were i7 in 2006 lol..... i said that cell was crete it back then :S read more careful plz. now explain me how i am fanboy without owning PS, PS2, or PS3 and the only thing that i got from sony is my old sony ericson self phone. srly man, 1st learn to read, 2nd dont change my words as you like, 3rd those things that i told you its facts. If you cant accept that PS3 its gr8er than xbox 360 you are the fanboy here not me that in the end dont own even a single hardware from sony
@Auronvolgar comparing the cell processor to an i7 like that...lol, and you said there were i7 in 2006, not something else, it's obvious the domestic use hardware is not top of the line. Also, I see you're not too involved with this, as you aren't interpreting the specs correctly, but I'll give you a hint - floating point. Anyway, your last comment reduces to what you are, ps3 fanboy, which explains the lack of objectivity. You can reply to this if you want, but for me the conversation is over.
go and check the speed of XDR ram its 3,2GHz back on 2006 when we where having some MHz and our DDR3 can't even get close to that speed
And if you can't get it how the hell sony got such a powerful CPU back on 2006 that is more powerful than a CPU of 2011 then i can easely tell you to see thise link and see with your own eyes what they did 6-7 years ago with transistors and what we currently has on our desktops.
In 2006, a team of Korean researchers from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the National Nano Feb Center codeveloped a 3 nm transistor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_nanometer
The technology is far ahead than what we got on our PCs
@riotinto876 what do i need to explain? Core i7-980 @4.5GHz has 97GFLOP ok? now if we see the statistics of the CPU that new xbox is supose to use we can see that their CPU is going to have less than 97GFLOP. ok? good. PS3 has the cell as a CPU that has theoretical 230 GFLOP they say theoretical because its not easy to find out how powerful a CPU is without the rest of the hardware that you will need like RAM, GPU etc but every CPU has its limits so the limits of Cell is 230GFLOP so if the i7-980 that has higher specs than the new CPU of xbox cant even reach the CPU of PS3 how do you expect and how you can say that this CPU is good when PS3 CPU is by far gr8er.
P.S. I hope i become clear, if you dont understand with my bad english i will see what i can do to fix that sorry.
@Auronvolgar The PS3 uses the Cell microprocessor, which is made up of one 3.2 GHz PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and six accessible Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs). A seventh runs in a special mode and is dedicated to aspects of the OS and security, and an eighth is a spare to improve production yields. PlayStation 3's Cell CPU achieves a theoretical maximum of 230.4 GFLOPS[3] in single precision floating point operations and up to 100 GFLOPS[4] double precision using iterative refinement for the solution of linear equations. The PS3 has 256MB of Rambus XDR DRAM, clocked at CPU die speed.
That GPU is a huge step up from the Xbox 360, so I'm not sure what he's talking about. The specs overall seem to be over double the current system. That GPU doesn't compare to the top cards, nope, but I don't want to pay 1000+ dollars for a toy that doesn't have a gasoline motor anyways.
If this is true, it pretty much confirms Im switching to PC. Thinking about consoles gives me that nice feeling inside which thinking about PCs does not. I think its because everyone I know uses consoles and that I grew up on them. But in reality this shouldnt decide for me, and its obvious that PCs are better machines. I just wish exclusives would piss off and for everyone to get on together. It would be awesome to have everyone playing and communicating on the same cyber-space, or even better, the same machines.
I'm a self confessed PC Snob, but I am genuinely looking forward to the new consoles. I do miss couch gaming. I just want at least 60fps. So many current games run at such a low frame rate so they can use even basic graphical effects. If I was getting 30fps on a pc title? I'd turn the game settings down.
Developers ask far too much from the current gen hardware in my opinion. I'm looking forward to high frame rates with less jaggies on the next gen consoles. Fingers crossed.
Please don't compare a console to a PC. They can use a console's potential to its fullest but they can't do that with a PC. PCs do lots of shit, they can be customized, improved and all but games can't use their full potential on them. There are just billions of different PC variations and they are not dedicated to play games.
So in practice if a console has same specs as a PC counterpart, that actually means console has two or three times more power at hand than a PC, which means it IS very powerful. You can definitely call this next gen.
@PinchySkree @DuaMn No. Until ALL PCs start using 16 cores and have 32 GBs of ram. A console with specs as stated above there has a good four years of full gaming ahead of it.
@DuaMn you sir are a gentleman and a scholar. Just wanted to add that it's the API overhead that detracts a lot from performance of PCs whereas console games can communicate directly to the hardware since they are specially designed for it.
Why are people commenting like this is real? Leaked unconfirmed stuff is 90% of the time fake or half fake. Relax and wait for the real specs from MS themselves.
