Vice Project Doom is everything you could want in an action game for the NES.

User Rating: 7.7 | Gun-Dec NES
Vice Project Doom, looks, sounds and plays very similar to the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy for NES, however, it is quite a bit better overall than any of those games. The game makes a hard-boiled detective atmosphere and tells a fairly interesting (though a bit nonsensica) story through cutscenes that look almost identical to the ones from Ninja Gaiden. The graphics are colorful and there are little or no graphical glitches. The sound fits the game really well. .

The gameplay is really where this game excels, your character controls perfectly and you have a whip, a gun and grenades to give you a lot of options against your enemies. The bosses are all based on simple patterns and dodging and they all look really cool (this game had mechs before mechs were a thing). The game also mixes up the gameplay with fun but fairly easy driving stages and shooting galleries.

. The real reason that I think this game is so much better than any of the Ninja Gaiden games is its difficulty. It is a challenging game (especially by todays low standards) and you will have to replay the same level many times. However, unlike Ninja Gaiden you won't be continually frustrated by continually respawning enemies knocking you into pits (though it will happen a few times). Chances are, you will beat this game and feel fairly proud of yourself when you do. Like so many games, Vice: Project Doom is an excellent game that never should have been forgotten. Highly recommended, even today.
