Much like the movie this game isn't gonna win any awards but is still just a blast.

Van Helsing was a good movie that got overlooked by most people; the same can be said for the video game. In Van Helsing the game you play as none other then Van Helsing himself, a legendary monster hunter who has no memory and works for the Vatican (simple enough). On this particular mission you have to get your bad self down to Transylvania to take on the blood sucking Count Dracula and his multitude of little helpers who also happen to be bent on your destruction. The game play is simple; you either shoot your enemies down from afar, or pull out your melee weapons and hack away. To be honest that about sums up Van Helsing, there really aren't any puzzles or mysteries or great bit's of wonderful new experiences. Things try to kill you and you try to kill them (welcome to the business world). So, anyway as cliché as that sounds it actually doesn't hurt the game that much; the different weapons and little combos that you can do give just enough of a boost to keep the game fresh. The sound is good and Hugh Jackman (the star of the flick) does the voice acting with decent skill. As far as graphics go there are some problems though. Allot of times you find yourself looking at your foes life meter instead of the monster itself for the simple reason that you can't see him. The simple game play mechanics make up for this (you could literally play this game blindfolded) but it's just one of those things. So is Van Helsing going to win game of the year? No, not by a long shot. But, nonetheless, it's a pretty cool game for the monster hunter in all of us.
