I just purchased this game from Steam, and I made sure to do a bit of research before doing so. So, I knew to download the unofficial patch before playing. I installed the newest version (7.5) after the purchase, and am still getting the above problem whenever I try to start the game. (I'm using Windows 7, if that helps.)
Incidentally, when I was installing the unofficial patch, it asked me to create a new folder for the destination; was there a specific folder I was supposed to put it in instead?
Thanks in advance.

1) You need to point the UP to the Steam Bloodlines folder.
2) You need to disable the Steam updates for Bloodlines.

Getting the same error message. I however didn't buy the game from Steam, I reloaded it from the disc after having my OS reloaded. Had to try multiple times to load the game due to an error reading an audio file in Chinatown, but after finally finishing the download & loading the newest patch, I get the above mentioned error message. Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's installed correctly?

well, it finally finished it's loading after not wanting to read the music file, so should'nt it've loaded correctly? Do I need to remove it & go through that crap all over again?

I meant the UP - are you sure it's installed correctly? Getting the error implies that it is not.

Alright, so the game's been running perfectly since I got the patch working, but there's only one small problem; the logos don't show when I start the game up, yet the sound still plays. I've looked this up and have seen that it's pretty common, but I didn't really find a solution anywhere. Is there a way to fix this? It's not that annoying, but it's still kinda bugging me.
...Better yet, can I safely delete/move them from the media folder, so that they just don't play? I'd prefer that... Again, thanks in advance.

Still won't launch.Even tried doing what the previous writer did. Purchased it from steam since it still won't complete the install from the game discs, followed your instructions to him. Nothing. Try writing the EXACT file destination and we'll see if that works.

Regarding the logos, you can safely rename the folder and they will be skipped.

You can run the game in Windows XP compatibility mode and disable both the visual themes and desktop composition. That way you'll see the into movies. Actually, I believe you only need only one of those compatibility options but feel free to experiment on your own - ticking two tickboxes and selecting something from a dropdown takes less time than actually testing each individually and/or in pairs.
You can also still skip them, even though you don't see them.
With that said, better to just disable them. They don't do much and aren't that cool anyway. You can see them once and that'd be all you need for the rest of your life.
NELouis - run the game once and disable the automatic updates to the game, then install the UP in the following directory:
[Steam Install Path]\steamapps\common\bloodlines\
(the actual directory might be called vampire the masquerade bloodlines or something along those lines)
and/or tell us exactly what you're doing so we can say for sure where something's going wrong.

It never runs. I always get the "memory less than... error message. whether I had installed the patch or not.

Ah, sorry about that, my bad - you can disable the updates from outside the game.

I always get the "memory less than... error message. whether I had installed the patch or not.Make sure you didn't make the same mistake I did and accidentally install it in Program Files instead of Program Files (x86). An easy way to tell this is if you have a Steam folder with no files in it other than th VTMB patch files.
Anyway, here's what I suggest you do. Take a screenshot of your Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines folder (including the path) and then a screenshot of you choosing the path while patching and we should be able to easily tell you what you're doing wrong.
