A classic with a fresh coat of polish. A must have for any RPG fan/hardcore gamer.

Ahhh, a rehash of a truly underappreciated classic. The original Valkyrie profile is a PSX release; it was something of a sleeper hit. Tir-Ace has paid tribute to this series several times, item names in Star Ocean, and even the appearance of the games main character in Makai Kingdom.

The battle system in Valkyrie profile is one of the things that really sets this game apart from other turn based rpgs. Each of the 4 possible spots in your battle roster can be mapped to a character which corresponds with the face buttons on the PSP. Pressing the corresponding button starts that characters attack, as you progress your characters gain skills and weapons that allow for more strikes, and eventually your party can pull of devastating over the top super moves. The battles end up playing out something like a hybrid fighter/turn based RPG.

The sound and voice acting is another point that sets this game apart, from Arngrims prebattle "No Quarter!", to Lewelyns "In the name of all the gods, finishing strike, Layer Storm!", the voice's fit well and add a certain engrossing quality to the battles.

Whether your tired of the typical RPG plot formulas, or are just looking for a classic to add your collection Valkyrie Profile is a must have/must play for all serious gamers.

On a final note the original for the PSX has become increasingly rare, as the disc is very tempermental, and the smallest scratch can make the game unplayable.
