Coalesced with a beautiful art style and solid story make this a a superb SRPG.

Many times I have stumbled upon Valkryia Chronicles at my local game store (gamestop; blame me), and many times as well was it on sale. I always told myself should I buy this or not, mainly because there were no trophies. But alas, I finally bought it from newegg for 15.99 USD and I must say, I was stupid to not have picked this up during my previous run in's with this game.

Valkyria Chronicles is a superb SRPG because it brings in a new formula where you can control your units literally, and strategically place them on the battlefield to suits your needs.

All units within the same class share the same exp, for instance, if you allocate this amount of experience to scouts and they level up to 11 for example, all scouts become level 11. So there is no need to grind each individual unit, which I must say is a most welcomed new addition to the genre.

There is grinding of course, specifically skirmish 7, and if you can look up a faq regarding it, you can grind quite a bit of experience.

The story itself is just about above average; a war torn continent, two lovers who are meant to be in the end, a villain who wants his heritage brought back to its former glory. Do not be dismayed though, because the game uses a beautifully done cell shaded design, and superb voice acting, the story is drawn out splendidly.

In conclusion, valkyria chronicles is a superb SRPG, and a worthwhile pick up. Just a shame that it's a tad short. The mainstory can be beaten in under 20 hours.
