An awesome game that should be played by all RPG fans
Story- arguably the most important aspect of an RPG, Valkyria Chronicles delivers a plot which achieves what many games fail to do - create a political tale of war while emphasizing character personalities. the story is set in the fictional continent of Europa, similar to real life Europe. the Empire of the East is locked in a war against the western alliance and the neutral nation Gallia is cought in the middle. Welkin Gunther, the main character, is assagined as a tank commander in the Gallian army and is put in command of a squad, members of the squad feature their own personalities and reasons for fighting.
the story unfolds through a storybook, with each chapter covering a different event.
Gameplay- this is a strategy RPG but with a twist, the game fuses strategy RPG with 3rd person shooting. when a unit is selected, you are given control of the unit and it controls just like a 3rd person shooter, the unit is given a certain amount of stamina to spend on walking and shooting. its fresh and quite innovative, while not being too difficult. you have various types of units to command, from scouts to Snipers and tanks, and will face enemies ranging from the ordinary to the unique. all units level according to unit type so leveling isnt as tedious as most RPGs.
Graphics and Sound - Valkyria Chronicles looks fantastic, it uses cell shading to create a world that is both great to look at and artistic at the same time. colours are vibrant and the world is bright and colourful, animation is great. so me people might prefer ultra realism, but if they obssess over graphics too much , they really shouldnt be playing RPGs.
music is likewise fitting of the events and perfectly accompanies events.
In conclusion Valkyria Chronicles is a great RPG in both story, looks and gameplay it defenitly delivers and should be played by all RPG fans and all strategy fans. the only problem is that this game is hard to find, it was not a mass seller and thus might cost more if found. but I advise all of you to get it, it will not disappoint
