The Humanity Found in War

User Rating: 8 | Valiant Hearts: The Great War PS4

Valiant Hearts: The Great War focuses on war but makes it original by not focusing on the aspects of a traditional war game. What is focused on is the Human aspect in war through friendship, love, and terror. This is all shown through 4 main characters who are brought in to this war unwillingly, for they are not fighting for county but something more sacred like that of love, family, and friends. But then the added element of the worse war known to man ,World War 1 (The Great War), for this new era of machine guns ,mortar shells, and mustard gas adds death, a looming fear and terror everywhere. As you travel across the front line you fight on for what each character believes as horrors around decrease moral lower and lower with constant bombardment and the death toll rising. But in Game mechanics the puzzles are relatively simple and need little explanation. The puzzles though are very good for there not added in cause they often tie in to the history making every portion of the game necessary and unique from the rest. Then puzzle adventure aspect of the game adds to the feel of the game making you know death should never come to these innocent characters because like other war games you kill, kill, and kill so you never feel confused why a character like that should die. Yet the other mechanics such as the history info and diaries though informing often take away from whats going on impairing your experience, but reading these are all optional and wont ruin the game. And in sum Valiant Hearts: The Great War is cartoonish and at sometimes weird but it tells a story that most AAA war games can not compare to. One that is full of the real and true emotions of war.
