All About zyxomma100

Here I occasionally write about random stuff. Not very descriptive, I know, but I guess it's my Gamespot profile so I'll keep all discussions game-related. Most of my talks will be about PC and 360 gaming, but I might throw some other stuff in there, also.

Cheap gaming is starting to add up.

I'm bad when it comes to buying cheap old used games. A lot of times, I'll rummage through the bargain bins, and if I recognize the title as something that garnered even mild praise, I'll buy it if it's cheap. It's gotten to the point where my unplayed game stack is larger than most of my friend's entire game collections. It's kind of depressing.

Here's a list of games I own that I haven't really played yet:

    Xbox

    • Azurik: Rise of Perathia
    • Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
    • Beyond Good and Evil (I NEED to get to this)
    • Bloodrayne
    • Bloodrayne 2
    • Chronicles of Riddick
    • Crimson Skies
    • Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (I hear so many good things about this)
    • Guilty Gear X2 #Reload
    • Jade Empire (I know...)
    • Max Payne
    • Max Payne 2
    • Need for Speed Underground 2 (had fun with the Gamecube version)
    • Quantum Redshift
    • Rugby 2005 (I wanted to learn how to play...)
    • Shadow the Hedgehog
    • Shenmue 2 (I know...)
    • Syberia (Only played for about 30 minutes)

    360

    • Blue Dragon
    • Chromehounds (bought years ago and I think they've shut the servers down)
    • Mass Effect (Another game I hear good things about)
    • Need for Speed: Carbon (Played for 2 hours, underwhelmed so far)
    • Project Gotham Racing 3
    • Quake 4
    • Rainbow Six Vegas
    • Shrek the Third
    • Sonic the Hedgehog (3D version)
    • X-Men
    • You're in the Movies (came with a camera and was cheap)
    • Multiple cheap arcade games (Bionic Commando Rearmed, Wolfenstein 3D, etc.)

    PC

    • Hearts of Iron 2 Collection
    • Supreme Commander + Forged Alliance
    • Titan Quest + Immortal Throne
    • (okay these don't really count because I got them a few days ago from Direct2Drive)

Yep, it's sad. Part of the problem is that I like to 100% every game I own, so until I play the crap and get 100% unlocked in one game, I usually don't like starting another. Anyway, hopefully I can get some of these games scratched off the list over the next few months. Still working on getting that last achievement in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and finishing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1. Ugh.

Moving forward to return to the past

It's been a VERY long time since I last posted here at Gamespot. Now that I think about it, I really don't feel like making GS my home; I like GameFAQs much more. Other things have changed since my last post. I now go to college, and my PC gaming is now done on a Toshiba laptop that is marginally better than my family's home desktop for gaming. So with all this extra computing power, what games have I been playing lately?

Nothing new, really. I've gotten back into the old stuff. Within my first week of college, I was readdicted to RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, and I started playing Worms Armageddon again. I played Age of Empires II against a human player for the first time in over a year. Now winter break is here (and almost over), and I recented got addicted to Rome: Total War, and I went out to buy The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for the PC (oh my God, it's even better than the Xbox version).

I don't know why I've been tinkering with these old games so much. Maybe I'm going through a nostalgia phase, or maybe I'm just trying to squeeze every last bit of value out of them. You can't deny that these games are fun, though.

I guess it hasn't ALL been old stuff. I still have my 360, and recently picked up the Orange Box. I never bothered to finish Half Life 2 for the Xbox, but now that I've forced myself to play through the beginning, I think I can appreciate it a bit more. Only problem is that I checkpointed with 1 health and now I can't get past this next part... I guess I'll try tomorrow. I look forward to unlocking 99 achievements.

A one MMO man is what I want to be...

...but there's two perfect ones for me. And another with which I flirt.

I love Guild Wars. Admittedly, I don't play it as much as I used to, but it's just amazing that I can come back after a couple of weeks and not have to worry about a $15 fee waiting for me. That and I like the instanced style of gameplay, which is very different from most other MMORPGs.

That being said, I've recently been looking for another one to play. Maybe it's just my nature to hate what everyone else likes, but I've been deadset against World of Warcraft from the beginning. I'm not a big fan of Blizzard. (I loved Warcraft II, but might be the only person in the world who didn't enjoy Diablo 2.) There were a few other titles I considered. Auto Assault was a very cool 14 day trial, and I actually managed to get 2 free copies of the game (limited edition came with a headset, too). But there just seemed to be something missing. Same thing with City of Heroes/Villains.

I finally broke down and tried the 10 day free trail of WoW that came with my copy of Diablo 2... and was bored to death. I only got to level 20, but I am not exaggerating when I say that the game put me to sleep a couple of times. (I could stay up all night playing GW, but WoW... *shudder*)

But I think I've finally found the solution. I picked up Lord of the Rings Online on a whim a week ago, and I haven't been this hooked on a computer game since Guild Wars. Yes, it's sort of like WoW, but it's so different at the same time. I've never been a LoTR fan (I haven't even read the books), but there's something fun about attacking enemies with the power of music as a Ministrel.

Although I guess I get the best of both worlds. A friend gave me his password for his WoW account, and we can now share it. For LoTRO, look for a Champion named Kierce on Windfola. On WoW, look for a Priest named Adahan on... I honestly don't know what server. Oh well.

A video of me playing Boss Rush in Super mode. Maybe the hardest challenge in the game, as you must face every boss in succession without taking a hit. Video taken from gameplay on Steve Snake's Fusion emulator (sorry, my Genesis is broken).
