    My Christmas

My Christmas was humble and quiet to say the least. Enjoyable. No one came over to bother us, and we stayed in playing Wii all day (my brothers girlfriend brought hers over, now my mom wants one, so guess what I'll be purchasing in the near future; as welll as my grandfather bought one for himself). Good food and great presents.

So here is what I got:

Most of what I have recieved were clothing items. Sweaters, a few pairs of designer jeans, t-shirts, underwear, socks, etc. I also got some new earrings (bigger gauge, I practically re-pierced my ears because of them), GameStop gift card from my brother and his girlfriend (went out today and attempted to use it but the local GS was packed, so I'll wait for now), DVDs, a new plush blanket (very comfy) and some money. I'd have to sya my favorite gift though was a DVD set my other brother got me: The Complete TMNT Collection. I was so stoked that he remembered that I've been looking for it over the last few months and have had little luck finding it or trouble purchasing it.

Speaking of DVD purchases and Wiis; my grandfather, as a gift to himself, went out on a shopping spree at Best Buy earlier this week. He purchased a 46 inch LCD HDTV, Surround Sound system with blu-ray player, the Wii, several games, a new computer and laptop, and DVDs. He's part of the reason for why I ended up with so many DVDs this Christmas. Lucky guy. I wish I had enough money saved up to do that all in one run.

So all in all, enjoyable holiday. Waiting for New Years so I have another good enough reason to get drunk. Hope you all enoyed your holidays and continue to enjoy the last few days of the year.

    Ninja Assassin

Ninja Assassin, we've all seen the trailers. So how does it live up to the hype?

I'll start out with this: If you're offended by gratuitous amounts of blood and gore, then this movie is not for you. It makes Saw look like Sesame Street. However, the atmosphere between the two are different. The deaths in Ninja Assassin are more enjoyable and bloodier than that of Saw, making it less of a stomach churner and more of an adrenaline rush.

The movie itself revolves around a thin and cliche plot: Man raised to become master assassin, and decides the life is not for him when he comes to understand there is more to his life than killing for his clan. He then turns on his clan in response to the murder of the fellow female assassins, one whom he came to love. This is all seen through flashbacks, as in real time, the leading man Raizo teams up with Europol Forensics agent Mika who stumbles across a series of murders linked to Raizo's former clan. Raizo promises her protection in turn for helping him to draw out his former clan members from the shadows so that he may work his way closer to taking out the master.

What ensues from the very first scene is a non-stop chop-socky rollercoaster. Blood and dismemberments are in no lack here, as quite literally the arms and legs fly everywhere and blood flows like oceans. The movie itself has a comic book/video game to movie adaptation feel about it in terms of not only a cliche plot, over the top action, and bland acting; but the general overall look of the film itself. With the Wachowski Bros lending a hand in producing the movie, one can see the influence they may have had over the fight scenes: some slow mo flips/kicks/sword swings/etc.

I can safely say that I enjoyed this film very much. I came in not expecting an amazing work of literary art adpated for the big screen; but an all out no-holds barred, kusari-gama swinging, ass kicking, bloodfest. That's exactly what this movie delivers throughout its 90 minute long run. With the closing of a decade of genre movies being ruled over by the fad groups of vampires, werewolves, zombies, giant robots, and pirates; it's refreshing to see Ninjas attempt to make a comeback. Hopefully an interest in Ninjas will be resparked and we'll see a newer fad group appear to rule over the next decade.

All in all, a stellar action movie for hardcore action buffs, a great alternative to Twilight and the same old Holiday family movies.

Ever have horrible experiences waiting in line?

Well today, I didn't. As some of you may know, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was released today. Some of you may have waited in line at midnight at your local video game stores to pick up a reserved copy. I didn't reserve a copy. My intentions today were only to purchase a wireless adapter and update my Live account back to Gold status. So as I went in to buy the adapter (I went to a place down the street from Gamespot and bought it used for 50 dollars instead of the 80 dollar used unit at the 'Stop) I contemplated picking up a copy of the game as I saw people running around the local shopping strip trying to find a copy of the game.

So I walked down to GameStop, walked in, and on the shelf behind the counter was one whole section devoted solely to MW2. The shelves were stocked with plenty of copies. I waited while one patron bought his copy, then I asked for mine. The only funny thing about the purchase today was I bought mine for the 360. The guy infront of me for his PS3. He was a fanboy to say the least. As I was paying the guy made few comments about the 360 and you now how it goes from there. I laughed. I then proceeded to ask him how hardcore of a gamer he was. He replied "I'm not casual like you." I laughed again, and retorted "so I'm a casual gamer because I purchased a game for the Xbox. Whereas you don't even know my gaming habits or what consoles I own and support. A real hardcore gamer enjoys games period. I don't confine myself to one console. However, when it comes to online gaming I enjoy Xbox Live compared to the PSN. I'll gladly pay for the features and community that the PSN lacks. If it were the other way around, then I'd purchase a PS3. But unfortunately, not all of my friends own a PS3, thus why I purchased the 360 version." He snickered and walked away. The clerk behind the counter laughed, high fived me, passed me my game, and a few extra goodies. I recieved a Gamer Pics token card which was only supposed to be handed out to those who reserved the game. I also got one of those scratch off lottery like MW2 cards that have a monetary prize if one happens to be the winner.

I didn't win anything, but I did get the game I wanted and a cool extra. I also got the approval of a GameStop employee and a good laugh out of my visit. No horrible long wait in line, no one complaining, no one hassling me to pre-order or upgrade to a different edition of the game. In and out with no problems.

So how have some of your experiences been when it comes to picking up some of the most anticipated titles?
