Steve Nash - The Showdown from 13thWitnessTM on Vimeo. Not a big Steve Nash fan even since the Santa Clara days but the video concept of 13thWitness is dpretty dope. It's like stop motion snapshots taking you through a day with an athlete. Not too far from what we do here when we're out on the road covering events. BTW the music track itself is worth a listen. Still trying to find the producer who created it, will update once that is done.

Whenever at a local watering hole or gfunk spot's I tend to notice that most dudes never wash their hands after using the restroom. Whether they're just in a hurry to get back to the game or they don't want to tip the attendant, whatever it is most just don't. So why would I think any differently ofan NBA baller?I don't know, maybe just having a taste of the finer things in life that come with a multimillion dollar contract he might be acclimated to something different. But this Warrior wasn't nor did he need to be. (Just thought it was an interesting social observation.) Besides he is a dude.
As I washing my hands, cuz of aiming issues, The 6'8"guard greeted me with a smile and said "Hey! Oh. I thought you wereBelinelli!"
"I'm not Italian, I'm only 6'1" anddon't have a 3pt shot. But I'll D you up, hog da boards, & drop a couple dimes while I'm at it." I quipped. (Yeah for NBA standards I'm short, but I got a nose for the boards and some mad hops to go along with it)
Then he said, "You need to do it all." as he fixed himeself. See, I can shoot, play d, rebound, steal, whatever it takes. I go hard!" "Yeah go HARD!" his homie added.
"There aint no half steppin w/ me bro, I redline all the time! I'm all heart,Ilove the game...like it's the only p*$$yI'm ever gonna see!" We laughed a drunken laugh, he said somethingbout not knowing about thatand I said good luck this season and couldn't wait to see him back on the court. Almost reached out with a hand in shake position but opted for a pound. Not just cuz the whole bathroom thing but c'mon what baller's gonna actually give you a real handshake, in the bathroom no less.
This all got me to thinking how many people wash theirhands after using the bathroom in their own house? whiletaking that quick break in between frags orpassed levels? How many controllers or arcademachines have I been on after homies madecontributionsto the DPW? Makes me want to invest in anti bacterial hand gels!

It's been a while since I've last posted, had written up a few but lost them with system crashes and overhauls. A lot has happened. Went to Seoul, Korea for Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, saw the first nighttimeoutdoor mocap session for NBA 2k8 at Rucker Park Harlem, got brushed in the back by a stumbling Ozzie Ozborne at the Madden 08 Launch in Times Sq, and even slept with Chris Mullin, on a plane, ok well next to him, but you get the pic.
Saturday8/20 had to be the largest event I had been to in a long while. Not since the Rodney King riots (when it was still a protestbefore all the knuckleheads started bustin' up the place) had I been flesh to flesh within a massive sea of people. I'm not sure what the total numbers were but from the looks of kids jumpin' the fence like herds of sheepin my sleep there had to be at least 100,000.
Although, I find it interesting that the people the music was intended for still can't afford to go to their shows. I doubt that any middle class caucasion person with a decent 9 to 5 that can afford the $75+ cover is gonna rise up against any powers that be anytime soon. Not just RATM's set, but the entire event was lacking in diversity. Rock the Bells should take a cue from Ozzfest! Make it FREE!!!
p.s. if you want the whole Chris Mullin story, I'll see if i can dig it up, so just say the word.

31Jan 07I know this has been asked before and highly debated but after running around CES last month, which was adjacent to the country's largest AVN Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE), I had to ask myself just that. They are interactive and have some sort of objective although one dimensional. So does that qualify it as a video game? Yes sex has been in games for while but when a game's pure objective/reward is sex and you know what the outcome will be then where is the game experience, the suspense, the excitement in finding new hidden areas. Well I guess you can say that technically they are games but just not that compelling in my eyes.

So I've finally been able to type up some of my random thoughts, notes and journal entries from TGS '06. I know old news but at least there here.
9/18
just wakin up. its about 7:45 am here in Japan so that means it must be pretty late back home, been feeling like crap. i had about 11 hours of sleep on the plane and been asleep since 9pm last night but I’m sooo tired, I’m having trouble just holding this pen steady. My handwriting looks as if I were writing in kanji.
Well Tokyo seems pretty cool, although I’ve only seen it from the hotel room thus far since i was asleep on the bus ride from the airport to the hotel. There’s a few buildings directly across but in between rests a park and some sort of water channel that reminds me of the Hudson. I’ll investigate more later.
We have an electronically controlled bidet, water squirts your arse with the push of a button at various pressures, and heats the toilet seat. Genius! i want to bring one home. but I’ll leave the heat seat turned off since it reminds me of someone sitting on it for a looong time right before me.
Something’s wrong with my phone. It doesn’t want to turn on. I plugged it in too, so I think it’s broken. Irony, it came back to the place it was born and died. And all I wanted to do was check the time.
*My first meal here last night, a deep fried shrimp sandwhich with spicy basil fries at MC,Ds! hehe. Why oh why, cuz I’m in jApan.
9/19
yah, getting used to the current time zone hasn’r gone so smoothly. I keep seeing things written in kanji and trying to copy it wondering what it means then i forget what i wanted to write in the first place. Scattered. I wonder what time it is there? we have a meeting to talk about what we:re going to be doing but today looks like we’re going to Harajuku fashion district to help takeshi with a culture piece he;s working on and to shop since this will be the only free day we have. the rest will be running around with 50lbs of gear zigzagging through the mass of 9 to 5ers while trying to take up as little room as possible on the tightly packed train hoping to get to out appointments on time. They like punctuality. yeah so i:ll look for some stuff while i:m out there today. If I do ever get out there. (I never did get the chance to go)
9/21
well things have been on stop busy. i'm pretty adjusted now and spent the past 2 days shooting around japan. yesterday we were in the electronics district(akihabara) to shoot for Takeshi’s culture piece on food and stuff, it’s kinda like times square. Looked at video games, dvd’s, and electronic stores, costume shops (they call it cosplay). Ate some good food too. had a fried shrimp and scallop bowl with mixed greens that's served over rice but then you pour this tee/miso type broth over it. MMM hella good. Later we had dinner at a real japanese retaurant. menus were in japanese but takeshi was good enough to order for us, although I already knew what i wanted 'cuz maguro and saba and hamachi are already in japanese. hehe. but the chowan mushi had a calamansi flavor to it! and for desert calamansi ice cream! mmmmmmmmmmm!
But the funniest things was when I was at a squid ball stand shooting what they were making when two mexican dudes (they actually were and were wearing mexico soccer jerseys) walked up and were trying to ask the Japanese dude making it what it was in Spanish. The guy only spoke Japanese with a lil broken English mixed in. Neither could understand each other, so I turned to the two dudes and said that it was like fish or squid, octopus. They looked at me hella blank and were like “huh?”, “que?”. They didn’t speak English either. So I was like, “pescado”, “mariscos”, octopus, calamari?, and they still weren’t quite sure what it was, so I pointed to the sign that had a logo with an octopus tentacle, and began waving my arms with my tongue wagging out mimicking an octopus. And it clicked for them,
in a sigh of relief they began smiling, “oh!” and just as quickly as that smile came so did a grimace and an “eeehch” with their realization that it was squid in a deep fried ball. And they walked off giggling down the street. Language and communication can be funny sometimes.
to shinogawa and waited for some of sega's pr folks. but the station was like penn station but 100 times busier and nonstop. i got a headache cuz it was too much stimulation and insane amounts of people constantly flowing for me to handle, i had to just stare at the ground for a while cuz i was getting dizzy. then we got on the wrong train then got off and got on another wrong train then finally made it to sega. did the interview then went to the microsoft event.
After exiting the station from where we started the day, we lugged the gear up a steep incline in 90 degree weather with about 90% humidity. I was dying. It was hella hot! Then i saw my reflection in the glass of a storefront we passed and didn’t recognize myself. Actually I did but couldn’t believe that I was making the face I was, like I was in horrible pain or really confused. So I just shut my eyes and wiped off all _expression on my face and continued to walk up the 75 degree incline concentrating on the sounds of the rolling cases in front that Jan was laboring with in front of me and found it relaxing. I found myself in meditation. The droning hum of the hard plastic wheels negotiating the tempered pavement carried me up that hill and revived me.
We then rolled into the event dripping with sweat just right before it was about to start and got setup and shot it.
Microsoft announced all its stuff and then we rolled back to the hotel, in a cab this time, but took us over an hour cuz traffic here is BAAAD. I do not want to drive a cab in Tokyo.
While in the cab, we were stuck right outside our hotel because they have to drop you off in front and will not let you get out, we ended up right in front of the park I noticed from our room on the 31st floor of the royal park(parku) shiodome (sheeyodomay). our view looks out over this royal park, much like the arboretum in the city, nestled between two tall skyscrapers and a river that slinks behind it. in the distance is a city scape of buildings on the horizon. not sure which way it points but i like to think it's towards home.
