Man when Sega and Nintendo and Sony went at each other. It was all about toping the other, at their best. Raising the levels to higher and higher standards. With new software around every corner. But You get one bad egg in the mix, it turns into lowering standards. And thats the major problem Micro brings to the mix. Oh the 60 cant do that, well lets just lower everything to the 60s level than. And then try and port are code. Not good at all.
And developers. Its also easier to program for a NES than it is a 360. But anyone can program a NES game. The reason great new tech is hard is because its great and new. The NES is vary user friendly, but you cant do much with it now can you. And in 3 years you wont be able to do much with Pentium 3 2005 type hardware, compared to much higher tech. And you all know that, but some of you are mad, that you have to learn new stuff to create better stuff. When you wold love to just sit back and do the same thing over and over and get pay checks. Sorry it dont work that way. Yea the NES is much more user friendly than the 360, and the 360 is a tad more user friendly than the PS3. But it only makes sense thow, in that much more potential is possible to in the PS3. Its not hard, its called evolution. And if you want to stay in 2001 program school. Some kids gonna take your job soon. Its called moving forward.
And one last note. Motorstorm runs sick fast, with out a flaw, even with 13 people online its smoother than most off line racers. RESISTANCE is a FPS that runs vary well, with alot of detail, and thats a first try game. The Gran Turismo 5 demo runs insanely well. Ratchet runs sick well, with tuns of graphics. Eve Ridge Racer 7 runs tremendously fast. And I mean fast! And all without one twitch or weird movement in the look. 2k sports play pretty well on the PS3. So why can they? Again developers are the problem not the system. The system can do this basic old school 2005 stuff vary easy. If you have some idiotic old school developer say different, ask him about those games. Its all only a matter of time, by the end of 08 your either gonna look normal with good stuff, or like a fool who cant program a Apple 2 game. And the dead on facts are, old PC like Pentium 05 games were not ,and are not the Next gen. And they will be passed by, no matter how hard of a BS advertisement campaign people try. Or no matter how hard people cry for 1999 games as being what they want. My question is for what? Why push BS?

For several years we have looked at how the biased Microsft user has turned everything into (Those dang PS3 fans .) The ironicnesss of the twist is funnier then arguing with your ADD girlfriend. More on this latter.

9Aug 08Someone asked me what I though a true noob is. First off, for the most part it's a word used to talk trash on the internet. Nothing more nothing less. Its like how the Fanboy calls all others fanboys. Kinda like that, all meaningless junk. But if I were to really have to answer it. I would say a noob is someone that has alot of technical knowledge. And really knows their stuff. Some are big time gamers. But yet they have no clue on how it effects the future economic and moral state of a area. Or they just dont care.
I used to think X-play was cool. And I knew who Morgan and Adam were well not in person, but I read everything they wrote. I always felt Morgan had this thing about being smart. And how important it was. Yet her rants on the importance of knowledge, grammar, and games, and other BS, were coming from a person who was clueless on what was really important. In fact if you look at those two now, their really just pawns/hos to Mr Gates also. They have been bought. This may have been since E3 years ago. But now its for sure fact.
Sometimes people like Morgan get so tunnel visioned on what is what. That they cant see everything else for what it is. And it usually people either really smart with tunnel vision, or really just plain dumb. And who have no clue what the whole thing is about. I dont think some realize just how important of a systems race this is. And many are clueless on what the future is for one outcome vs another. Or they just dont care.
I try to keep things simple yet out of context to explain things. When asked what the US's relationship was to Microsoft gaming. I said. Do to the hostile large US corp, are country is becoming split. So its almost as if most will be on the bottom half. And the higher half is up in the penthouse loft, banging your wife and daughter. And your down below with the rest. Eating their scraps they made you want. And whats worse is your bragging about the whole situation. Almost cheering it on. Its amazing, but true. Thats the US's relationship with them. Letting them do whatever, because they gave you a cookie.
Tech and media economy is worldwide. You cant own it. The US wont make out from it. You cant make out from having it. Because its a worldwide thing. The average guy is not gonna see a dime from the US doing well in the tech area. Sure a few will, but it dont help us as a whole. And if anything it would hurt in the long run. So thus the USA chants can stop here. Its meaningless. Im as USA proud as anyone, but I know what I should pull for. And even more so, I know what I should pull against.
We need to know tech, im not saying we dont. In fact it is a must to know it well. But we dont need to run it. And no nation needs to. Plus, if you try and own all of the tech world plus the media one, even outside of computers. You mise will try and own Hell itself. Its to much of a global thing. One nation controlling all of that lol, it cant be done.
You need a balance in the world to balance a nations economy. It's all still one big place after all in reality. We do cretin things, with what are land and people, as a whole, give us. They do certain things. And in doing so, everything stays balanced. But every so often you get a leader thinking it should be more leaned one way. Thus everything starts to go out of whack. Hitler was one of course. Rome back in the days lol. Eventually they all fall under their own BS. And in todays world some corps are a big as political leaders almost. And thus you get the same insane levels with a few. And 100 years from now the same fates will happen. But they dont need to. But its the road we seem to want to take so?
And others will say. Times have changed. And Its a new world run by tech, we need to own it. BS! Plain BS! We just have to apply it to what is are staples are already. We need to start to work on new efficient ways of using energy. Are space program needs a lift, are farming. Put the tech to what we do. Start to work on that. Find ways to use it to help the lower area's, and all that applies to the standard American people. Even are movies and media. Tech will go into all of that also. If Japan owns the gaming part of media and tech world. Its just part of the spread balance. We do movies, they makes games. And life goes on. But If we take something else, its killing the world food chain of balance. Not saying we cant be a part of it. But its not something that should be owned by one.
But everyone wont care about that. Some just want to live and die, and dont care. They feel, hay its the futures problem. But me, Im not one of those people. In fact the average ho. Who wants his Bills from Bill, with maybe a pimp gates slap on the side. They dont care. World, US, none of it means anything to them.
And on a BS joke note. You cant go around saying US this or that, while driving a fart muffler Jap trap. Then I know your full of BS. And just for the record, I still respect and like Morgan and Adam. And Morgans Still a babe, hence an old sceenname lol. Yea she may be a older one, looked over by Olivia, but hay im an older guy
Had to use commas, Quotes dont show up?
And my thoughts on Mr Gates toady are
Im sure the guys smart as heck. But he has not one bit of authentic, artistic ability in him. He stoled his friends work, and made it his own. Only because he could market it better. He can market well. If anything thats his one gift. But that does not mean him and his company actually make good sh**!!! Everything he has done, is either stolen, or copied. I cant think of one original piece they have made. Of anything. Zoom = Ipod? 360= looks like a PS2? Plays like a home built PC from 2002. Games = All stolen, even Halo from the Mac squad team called bungie. Face it, the guys never really created anything. EVER!- Posted Aug 9, 2008 1:56 am PT

On a night of renting movies. And while watching the pumped up emotional action of Die Hard 4. And Also MI3. I turned to one buddy "without thought," and said. "Remember when video games were like this."
Yea,,back with the old MGS and RE, FFs, Tomb Raiders, and all kinds of cool stuff. It was odd. I kinda just said it. The sad part was the fact that I said remeber. And when. I could not say now. Not outside of Uncharted, anymore at least.
The story tellers of Hollywood are pretty good at what they do. Some better then others. But ones thing for sure. With the new breed of game development teams. Brought to us via the great new graduation ****s of the mid 90's to early 2000's. We may have gained a tun of development talent. But man did we loose alot of vision. Somewhere between FF7 epics "friend dies at the hands of a villain." To the now epci "Red shoot Blue. And Blue umm Shoot Red." Something has been lost. Yea we can try and pretend Bioshock, and Mass effect are good stories. But some on. Watch Lord of the Rings, or Die Hard 4. And tell me if they equal. Bio And Mass, a just another part of todays over praised "USA owns everyone" Micro "we tell you, you like it" BS.
Thing was back then, gaming did come close to movies. And even in some ways was surpassing Hollywood. That action and emotion was their. Chills ran threw you. Their was more than just shoot and run. Their was reason. And vary well written out ones.
Again I blame alot of this on this new breed. New breed of developers and game designers, new breed of 20 some game magazine editors who have no clue. New breed of everything.
Either a small team has the vision, but no devlopment talent. And no money. Or a team has the talant, and money. But no vision "EA
" So people try and buy already used up skripts of games, or talent.
Another part of the problem is basic things. Things as basic as hiring someone. Its a mathematical game. You hire 98 or 97. Just because its the higher number. People dont hire people anymore. They hire scores and numbers. And tests. They hire spelling and grammar correction lol. "Little joke." But they dont hire people and vision. So thus will proably see alot more red vs bue gaming. Before we ever really game again. Or be taken to other places via games.
Well at least for the most part it pretty stale. But in this quater of gaming, their is hope showing here and their. Some old guys still around. In fact,, Hideo Kojima's team may not be the best. But their pretty good im sure. And they have vision. His vision.
And although the attention span of the modern day teen to 20 some. Is about .5 of a second. With some form of ADD. Most of us others will understand MGS4. And will enjoy the heck out of it. Will get those Die Hard 3 and MI3 chills. And at least for one game. Will get to enjoy what vision and gaming was supposed to be by now. No offense to GTA4, they did their work vary fine. That game was not made to fit an epic story. But it almost did. Well as good as it could have done, in that type of game.
But im talking about the action and RPG games that have gotten lost. But maybe their not lost. Maybe their just still in development out east. But if not, we always got a bunch of BS from the west, on how great the story was in Red vs Blue.Again this comes down to a simple question for gamers. Do you wanna game half as good. or full go? Do you suport BS or vision. So far most "as of the last 6 or so years." Most of you have choosen half and BS.

19Mar 08Its finally becoming good to game again. Sure I loved Uncharted and Ratchet and some Cod4. But now I got quite a few more added to the list. Plus I can always go back and play those greats. So with finally being in the double digits with Next gen titles I can enjoy. I have to say these are good times.
But for me they have to be. I think in this half of my life, ive kinda turned into a geek. The turns in my life saw me once as the great teenaged cocky jock/racer. Had it all it seemed. Had the model girlfriend, and was pretty good at what I did" from Skiing to racing motocross, to sports." And at that time. My little town that all this was in was South Florida "Miami/Ft Lauderdale." So life was vary cool. Then it was on to a wild party 20 some, and some great times. But now its a whole new thing. Just moving away from all my friends a few years ago. And now becoming just some average 30some joe, in a town where not many know me. Life has changed major. Im not known for anything, and Ive kinda turned my once side hobby of gaming. Into my main hobby. It keeps me sane, in this tough part of my life. In which in the last few years I have lost my father, and 5 other close family members. And have moved away and left my last girlfriend.
But games have always been by my side even in the cool days. Now their a big part. And its been a cool time as of late. After Uncharted and Cod4, and RandC and Devil may cry. I have now jumped strait into MLB 08. And man do I love this game. Im kind addicted to the road to the show mode. And my players doing pretty well. But I also just got my hands on R6V2. Alot like the first, but thats a good thing. And I was one of the few major fans of that game. I also am looking into Condemned 2. And from what I hear, its not to bad.
And its hard to imagine were only about a month away from GTA4. And that will be only a few months before the MEGA MGS4. And by the time we all get over that game. Throw in Haze and the summer looks cool to. And once in that mega summer. Will be looking at a possible FF 13. And not just one, but two games. Also Little Big Planet will be somewhere. RE5 should be around the corner. Silent hill not to far after. Killzone 2, INFAMOUS, RESISTANCE 2, and many many other, will have some of us having to make choices. So teh Next gen ball seems to finally be moving. And by the time we are playing all these games. Im sure will see some surprises for 09 at E3.
Life can get rough sometimes. So what better time to have some games to at least help you forget about the daily pains of rough areas in your life. And for me that area is now.- Posted Mar 19, 2008 6:37 pm PT

No hope in HD downloads for a while
Who are they trying to fool now. More rumors, more Stupid thoughts. Folks I talked about this with my Brother in Law. Who was with the Screenwriters guild at one time when they lived in LA. He also still writes and stays in contact with many in the Hollywood area.
For once can you all just use your head. These piad analysts and stuff have been giving you false hope for the last 2 years. Humm kinda the same 360 time frame??
But fact is Do you really think Hollywood is gonna allow for HD downloads within the next 5 years. And even if they did. Do you really think anyone would buy into it. Do you know how hard it is to even be able to capture true HD. They have this blackbox that is said can now. But it has alot of flaws. But that has nothing to do with movie downloads to much.
Fact is,, to have a full service of HD downloads. A whole new service built around it would take tuns of effort. I mean, your talking all 4.7GB "at the least" downloads. Than it would take tuns of time to re-convince all the studios to do. Than it would take consumers "who have a hard enough time streaming a video," to ask them to figure out how to download movies. And sit in their office chair and watch it. Instead of their Couch. You know how much of a idiot you have to be to think all thats going to fit into place.Or maybe they have their eyes on some new HD download thing that will sit on top of your TV. But whos gonna buy one after all this. If you do this you may sell a few. But this would be after it takes you 10 years to get all the major studios to know their not gonna loose money "and gain" by doing this. Fact is if HD downloads cant make Hoolywood money. They wont do it!
Remember these are the same analysts that said a wii and PS3 were done before they started. Funny thing is many even said Blu Ray was. And 360 was some god. Their not analysts, their puppets. And for 2 years now youve bought into their Show. Do the world a favor, and dont buy into it again. You just find out you look like a idiot in the long run. BLu Ray won, its over! Deal with it.

25Jan 08While buzzing threw are look into the game industry inside and out. We have had to play alot of games, not just look at the industry. And we have found the PS3 does not nearly have the problems most post or talk about. But it does have problems. Slowdown "inputed on purpose or not" on some simple easy basic games it should not. And some other minor things. But the things built like a tank, and although you can break it. Its not easy to do. Oh it gets hot, and its fan will blow after some 12 hours of gaming. But it still goes.
But a few of us have come across a weird thing were not sure about. I could have waited till we ask others who know more about these machines, but I was to eager to write. Im sure it something just basic. But as some games have a little slow down. They also seem to have this odd thing where the speed up. Yea No BS,, and im not the only one to notice this. Oddly thow I dont see any posts on it. But I know people who have seen it. The games seem to go faster? Like almost in kinda this weird fast forward motion. But get this. As they speed up, they run perfectly smooth. Sometimes its just a tad faster, and is almost un-noticeable. And everything looks real clear when this happens. A few select times their definitely running way faster. And it just looks dang weird when this happens. I mean Ive only seen it a few times, but others have to. And I have seen it on more than one game. Like I said before most of these post subjects, are being filmed, so ill have more on it. Plus im sure ill talk to someone that knows what this is, and why it happens. After such, Ill post more on it in this one.- Posted Jan 25, 2008 7:18 am PT

2007 best year lol. Who they trying to kid. 2007 was the worst year in gaming EVER!!! And 08 should beat it easy. I can name why every year before it was better. And while everyone after will be. But give me time on this one. I may make it a video instead. But for sure 07 was indeed the worst year in gaming. Not sales wise, because of new systems in the mix "mainly the Wii." but gaming wise yes. Halo 3 was a let down, Mass effect was no KOTOR. PS3 had maybe the best two games that no one played. Wii has not had "kinda like the PS3" time to get to real games yet.
But this does not surprise me at all. With microsoft in the softweaar lead for 07. Which was only do to the head start, and some extra bucks spreas out here and their. Everyone wants to make "or pretend" the mediocre and boring games of the vary sad 2007 are great. Thats just to sad, its pathedic really.Let me explain this a little better. Anyone remember back a few years ago. Going into a store and Buying Halo 2, MGS3, and a little later RE4. I mean that was awsome. And even the loads of years with games like Ico, and Eternal Darkness, Sly and Ratchet, and Phychnuats all within the same time frames. KOTOR 1 and 2. I mean Ico was a looked over game. But you stick a game like Ico or Eternal Darkness, or even Sly in the year of 2007 with next gen upgrades. And your talking about game of the year. RE4 for sure would of been, and was at the time. We had piles of sick race games. Adventure games and RPGs "Fable, Final Fantasy's, KOTOR, paper Mario, Even a Decent Dragon Quest." We had platform's at the highest level, with the few I mentioned above, and some Mario in their, or some Prince of Persia along side of a God of War. 3rd person via Hitman in many forms, MGS in may forms, Even the rear end B games like Max Pain. And many others lost in the madness of great games. Horror at its top level via RE and SH, and even The Suffering. We had X sport games everywhere. We had the loads of the best GTAs and sandbox gmaes. And side notes with Bully and others. In the mid to ending years of last gen, their were months that had more than the full 2007 year. You look at a full list of each year of last gen. And many are not old enough to know. But 07 was sad compared to those times. I mentioned about 1% of what was their to grab by anyone.

28Dec 07What a crazy start to this gen. The Wii has shot ahead at a incredible pace. But one can agree that it does not have the content close to the 360. But thats only natural giving that the 360 is the oldest machine. But one can also argue that its line up is not even close to the PS3s rising strong lineup. Yet its sales are off the chats. Thus developers will have to take notice. And things are starting to sway all kinds of ways, with now 3 systems racing, compared to one by itself. And the craziness of what goes on behind the scenes of this systems race, is even more nuts. But thats not what will talk about now.
I want to talk about the games maybe trying to much. And by doing so, were getting the dreaded next gen issues all over the place. More so than any other gen before. I blame alot of this on under educated developing. But I have also been doing some math.
Lets say the PS3 is 40 stronger than the PS2. Which is about what most say. Add in the fact that most developers are using as low as 30% of the cell this early in the game. So that lowers the PS3 rate to less than 20 times that of the PS32"as far as how games are developed now, early in the systems life. Around 20 times the power of the PS2, mot 200 times.
But when we look at some numbers at what their putting on screen. One GT 5 car is 40 times the polygon count of a GT 4 "ps2" car. Add in the fact that you have many more cars on screen at one time. And many more polys in the background. And your way above the 40 times more powerful area of the PS3, compared to the PS2. In basic doing more than what the system can do. And many games have done this. In basic how can you make a game have 100 times the polygon count of a good PS2 game. With a system 40 times as powerful. Im no expert on this. But,,,, Is this where their running into trouble. I know the multi core element. And how that works. But I say BS on that. I know its way better, but still. I see sports games run fine in practice mode. With noother team and weak backorunds. But when in certain stadiums. Those same animations and frames, fall apart. Or else their just not ussing the multi P's right?
Basic math would tell you. That if your using 50% of the PS3. And that would be 20 times more than the PS2. that your polys per screen count should be 20 times as much, to get a good running game. And thats a good leap, running smoothly. Anything above that could get ugly. But many are going way above that. Is this the problem were running into. More detail then needed? It would take someone a tad more educated in this than me, to say yes or no. But it seems like to me everyone pushing to much.
When I look at a Sports game or anything. I can count hundreds of useless polys, that are not needed to get a high quality game. "I mean, who needs a moving 3D high poly count metro rail, 2 miles behind a stadium?" Also you have to add in animation and stuff. But the math just does not add up to me. 20 or 40 times more. To me it just does not seem like it would work for a game trying to do 200 times more. And,,, is it so bad to make a game that has 40 times the count, "on screen in full with animations" than a PS2 game. Unless they find some cool tricks latter. Which im sure they will. As a team I would use 40 times as max, wen compared to what that team did on a ps2. And thats not for one object. Thats for what displays on screen at one time "animations and all." It just seems like that would at least guarantee vary good running games. That look much better than last gen. And it would equal out to how much more powefull the new system is.
Of course their are the speculations of did some developers take dives. Were bad codes added. "Ala input lag lol." But keeping those conspiracy out of the way for now. My 10 cents to this is, use basic math. Intill you know if you can do more. Thats what Uncharted did. They stayed within themselves for the game. And made a good looking game. Its a game in where you dont see a rock detailed 500 time more. But what you do looks great. So who knows, Just a thought? Cod4 same thing. I fyou really look at that game. it has great areas, but noting is detailed more that should not be. But will see what comes out of 08.- Posted Dec 28, 2007 8:42 pm PT

First off. I dont get paid, or make new online friends, or get laid more, to say what I say. I say what I say because its what is. I dont sell out to anything, as much of this Gen of so called gamers have. Im not into bending over and taking it in the rear for some extra lol. Call it a being a man thing. But im just not into that. But the new gen of teen gamers seem to love it.
As a retired Motocross racer I look forward to any game franchise that can get close to the true essence of Motocross and Supercross. And although most racers would love to have a sim. The popularity of the sport is not up their with a NASCAR or NBA. So thus we take what we can get. And lets face it, 70 foot triple wont sell games to the general public. MX unleashed was the first game to really hit the basics of Motocross and Supercross. Sure it was vary arcade like. But it took the way you went about racing a 2 wheel machine in real life, and mixed it with a wild arcade feel. It also felt good, and had a great rhythm like feel. And the outcome was a vary good MX game.
Now we go 2 games further up the ladder to the new MX vs ATV Untamed. And changes have been made. And not all for the good. But than again, not all for the bad either. First off "unlike the title" Ill go over the bad.
"The whoop sections"
The MX vs ATV series had a vary free feel. It allowed you to find numerous ways to gain tenths of a second here and their. You could even jump into the whoops, or out of the whoops. Or lift the front wheel and ride them on the rear wheel. When riding with your butt on the rear the bike. You smoothly rolled across the top of the whoops. Taking the momentum you carried into them with you. In the untamed demo this has disappeared. You cant hit the first whoop and skip the next 4. Your butt wont be on the back of the bike, as the bike skims the top. In fact the bike seems to stick to the ground , and go into a stale animation. Meaning theirs only one way to really go into the whoops. And to put it bluntly, it looks down right ugly. And once your in them, you cant hop the last 4 out. Your rear wont get a tad out of shape. Its just a vary basic one way physics/animation it goes into. So not only is it vary plain physics. Its also vary bad animation. And no race will be won or loss in the whoops.
"The Scrub/ And whip"
The scrub is a skill used to not just look cool. Its their for a purpose. James Bubba Stewart is the master of the Scrub. He could lay the bike sideways "via compressing the bike before the lip of a jump. And actually taking off before the lip." Thus he could hit the same 80 foot double faster, yet lower. Thus clearing the same distance in less time. The scrub is a way of staying lower. And scrubbing does not always mean tilting the bike. If you can stay lower and faster, your scrubbing off time and air. Yet traveling the same distance. James just found a way to radically do it to a new level. Also a whip can be used to do many things. When you whip the back end out. It can work like a plain wing. And bring the bike back to the ground faster. If you hit a jump fast and want to land early. You can whip the back end out to slow the bike in air some "You can drop the front, with the back brake also." Combined this helps you drop shorter. So thus you dont over jump something.
All of these seemed to have some effects in MX vs ATV Unleashed. But dont seem to have nearly the same effect in Untamed. Although a combination of the back brake and a tad bit of a whip, does seem to maybe drop you shorter. But not nearly as much as it did In unleashed."Where is Stewart"
With real AI pros. Two fo the best of the last several years have clearly been James Stewart "#7", and Charmichael "#4" Ricky is in the game. But James is not. This is to bad, do to the fact that these 2 not only are one of the best rivalries in the sport. But no one has even touched the speed these 2 have shown.
"The Good"
Their is good in the new version. For one your not gonna get away with casing a jump in this one. You land short, your going down. Which is kinda refreshing to see. As in Unleashed, you did get away with casing a tad to often. In Untamed you need to clear these jumps, or lay back. And that can separate riders from other riders. And it also makes going for that big Quad, all the more of a risk and reward situation. Which is a good thing.
Also the back end seems to slide a tad bit more. And this is also refreshing to see. And im not sure if its me, or not. But the practice track and sand, seemed a tad bit more like sand. Kinda sinking down into the soft dirt.
Also some have complained that the seat bounce kicks you to high. But this is a good thing. Because the seat bounce is not spoused to be the quickest way over something. It supposed to be a way to get over something you cant normally clear. Or to step you up over something. And if you have the speed and momentum, a seat bounce should not be needed. Thus keeping you lower and faster, and saving you time. So the seat bounce kicking you high is a good thing. If you loose momentum and have to kick over a jump, you should loose time.
Other good notes are. It looks as if their will be a reply feature. Something that was lacking in the other versions. And better yet, if the background after the demo race is any indication of the replay. It looks to be more of a TV ****one, than a dynamic one.
Its said that will be able to modify the bike. This could be good. And hopefully its not just one set up the works the best for everyone on every track. Hopefully something that works on one track, wont work on another.
And if your a ATV fan. The new physics may have hurt the Bikes some, but seems to fit the ATV decent.
Despite some vary odd changes. Its not to say that with online and some new features and game play, this wont be a fun game. Its just a tad bit of a shame, that some things were so overlooked. And it was not as if they were not already in the previous game. They were things that were their. But we cant judge in full just yet.- Posted Nov 25, 2007 5:28 pm PT

25Oct 07
Floppy Disk, 8-tracks, Casset tapes, VHS tapes, CD, DVD, and than, DVD again? and again, wait that not how it works!
Its Feburary 2008. Or lets pretend it is, as it soon will be. Halo is no longer a top 10 most interesting game. And the third installment being somewhat weak at the story line my be the end of a franchise. With not enough change to make it anymore than a bad Friday the 13th part 10. And with new ways to game coming soon, I cant see it as anymore than RESISTANCE 2, CoD, or the same old same old latter on. Also Solid Snake will say goodbye, but that story is a massive, deep, well told full one "no their cut sceens are not 1 minute at a time, more like 15 to 20." With more story and twists than any gamer under 25 can understand. I saw a blog posted on how games are just the same story with new environments and leads. Apparently that person has only played certain games. Thats not the case with great RPGs and action games with amazing stories. But who knows.
What I do know is, the new must start now. New hardware must be pushed. New games must be done. And sure, a Kratos must come back at least a third time. RE must renew a new. And Silent hill will live on im sure. But with that, we need something brand new. And Bioshock and others are not it. Any combination of horror/doom, or space and shooters just will not do anymore. Its not that horror movies stoped, after they fell apart with Friday the 13 part 200, and others. But new Rings, and ways to go about them were found. And movies dont have the power of interactivity that games have.
Online in still beta, and has never been anymore than that for years now. The fantasy worlds, with well told hard driven stories, will never come from ""Hay my name is joe. This is my character, now I must shoot you."" So the single player story driven games, will always be at the front of whats great about gaming. I dont see shooting and respawaing lasting to long. And even if it does, thats all it will ever be. Unless online can be something massive and new "MMP." And characters would be willing to take back seats as store owners or whatever. But the reason that does not work well, is everyone wants to be the main hero. So where do you take online any further than World of Warcraft? with that fact?
Its time for the Wii to step it up and go full ahead in 2008 and 2009. Its time for programmers to stop crying about the 30% of power they got out of the PS3, and start using it in full, before a small third takes their place? Yea, you can take your training diapered off now, and get to work. Its time for dead old 1993 shot and die corridor games, to die for good. It time to re start what Lara Croft was once trying to start. What she was trying to show as new, in the mist of the true end of FPSers over 10 years ago. Its time for games to put us in those amazing areas, in ways we have never seen before. I spent the last 8 years gaming in 1994. Shooting Alain's and Germans over and over and over. And that time is over. Not to say the FPS should die, but its older than third person action. And its kinda becoming ancient now. In over a decade of massive power changes in the tech world, we went from Doom to Black. Thats just sad. Some may want to stay in the same old Madden, WW2, and race games of old. I dont.
So hears a toast to a "thank God 2007 is over!" In what I saw as one of the worst years in gaming. And numbers can be deceiving. The population and price of things will always skew numbers. Thats why new box office records are set every year. It does not mean movies got better. But games can, and should. Hopefully Hideo will show us the first steps in that this year. And hopefully others will follow with greater stuff even. But to do this we must stop giving paintabll a 9 out of 10 every time it has a good name behind it. People need to be willing to look ahead. More so the tech world is gonna force them to have to, if not some other things. And for the record, Ratchet and Clank is that good, its a step forward as well. A small one, but forward at least.
A note on CoD 4:
I think the new generation wanted something in gaming to call epic from their era. And I have been hard on this gen, and what it has brought. And I have always been hard on FPS, and their plain ways, with not pushing the boundaries anymore. But I have to give it to CoD 4. I think the Nuke scene, and how you go about it. Is one of the great moments in gaming. Like the many moments we had with FF7, and others since then even. And the shocks and great moments we always talk about in Resident Evil 1 to RE4. It may not be the best scene ever. But its a darn good one for a FPS. Something about that scene and how it plays out. Its almost eerie to even the most hard nosed shooter fans, who have played 50+ war games. It was an amazing scene. A epic one that deserves to be named as a great gaming moment, with some of the great ones of the past. And their are a few cool moments in that game, "ala Half Life 2 sorta In game moments." But that one was something else.
Also it was the first time this Gen "although I forgot some with Ratchet." But it was the first time this Gen. You just forget all about the graphics. You forget all about the systems wars. You know its quality. And your just gaming. And your in that moment and nothing else. And thats gaming! And a few more of those moments this new Gen, and will be back in normal flow again, to just gaming.
And do you all realize the Wii is about to pass the 360 in full sales in about a month. Despite comming out a year latter. And the PS3 is now on pace to pass the 360 in 09 Despite comming out in March/may. And if it gets a surge sooner "and this is post Halo numbers." I will bet all I have in my life now, I know whos gonna fishish last again by 2012.

15Oct 07The over use of Graphics filters and Lighting effects this Gen is unreal. I know were in the begging, and with the newest machines its a feel out period with the hardware. But some of these companies have went so far overboard with lighting effects and filters its unreal. When Framerate, and getting a basic feel for each system should be the first priority. The games are so overdone, most have to go to 30FPS or less. And this goes for both of the new Gen machines.
DEFUSE GLOW!! How many games over use this glow thing. I remember playing that other companies machine last gen, And enjoying Fable quite a few years back. It had a nice dreamy diffuse glow to the game. And it worked well in that game. After all, it was a fantasy, and it was not overused to bad. Soon I saw alot of other games use this. And it started to become just a tad overused. But I could have never imagined how badly it would be overused coming into this gen. Thats not to say its a bad effect. When used right it works. But we dont need to see this look in every game. I see Drakes seems to be using it a little. But it has a more natural look "from what I see" so far in that game. Also a problem with diffuse glow is, it blacks out dark areas sometimes. Epically when combined with lighting. Im no graphics expert. But I do know this, because I use it in photos.
Sometimes I feel the programmers are like little kids playing with these new machines for the first time. Remember when you got your hands on Adobe Photoshop for the first time years ago. And the only thing you added to your pics was the lens flare. You would overuse a tun of lens flares in your pics, like it was the only thing Adobe Photoshop did. Not knowing or using the thousands of other ways, and tools, to really make something good. I cant help to think this is kinda how these programmers are going about some of these new games. In time I hope they learn that the tools they have are much more. And learn to go about things in a more effective and efficient way. Not every game needs to look like some freak art show.
Also I think to start this Gen, Some teams seem to be trying to see how much they can throw in a basket, and guessing what comes out. Now granted this is one way to learn what you can and cannot do. But another way is move into the gen trying small steps. And making sure what you have is a good game first and foremost, while it uses some Next Gen stuff. Latter they can try a few more tricks. Because the price of throwing to much into a basket without thought, is bad glitches and framerate problems.
The main thing is Lighting and Glow, and all that is good. But its not so good when its just splattered all over the place. Nothing is real in a video game. The real trick is still to get the most out of using the least, no matter how much power you have. Theirs no point in some 3D object slowing the screen down, that we cant even notice or see.- Posted Oct 15, 2007 4:34 pm PT
