My Friends

6Jun 08

Hello everyone! I hope everything is ok with you.

It has been quite a while since my last post (more than 2 months). I've been busy doing several things but more about that in another blog. In this blog I want to tell you about my youngest dog and show you some pictures (I was inspired by the Tsunami post by Sharon a.k.a. Sandpiper).

Earlier this year, at the end of February to be exact, my favourite dog, Fee (which means "fairy") passed away. She was terribly ill after a surgery and we (my father and me) had to made a very hard decision : to let the vet give her an injection to put her to sleep permanently. I was devastated by that loss, she was only 8 years old, quite young for a small breed like the Shih Tzu ( an old Chinese breed of dogs). My father saw that my sadness wasn't going away the next few days, on the contrary, it was increasing. He said to me "Wouldn't it be a good idea to take a new, very young dog?". I agreed and one of the following days we bought a little puppy, a Shih Tzu again. I called her Joyce, because she was the one who brought joy back into my life and in my heart. She's almost 5 months old now. She's so adorable; she looks like a small teddy bear. She's very kind to us and also to our older dogs; she likes to be hugged and gives many kisses back. But at the same time she's a real rascal : she's always up to something. She loves to play with the older dogs, especially pulling their long ears. If she's not doing that, she looks for something to bite on : human or non-human.

I still think of Fee, almost every day, but not anymore with tears in my eyes and sadness in my heart. When I think of her, I see her cute, little face before me with her kind eyes and I smile. I'm really grateful that I had the chance to have such a wonderful little creature as my "buddy" for several years. I really hope Joyce will become my "buddy" too, but I'm almost certain of that.

Here are 2 pictures of "my little bundle of Joy" :

A little bundle of joy Joyce in the garden, a few days ago.

That's it. Take good care and have a nice weekend. And don't forget..........have fun while gaming!

Joyce is very cute indeed. I had a Golden Retriever 2 years ago named Maggie. I had to have her put to sleep also, because she had gotten an uncurable virus. It killed me to do so and I still miss her a lot today. I might take in another dog one day.

It's so hard to lose pets. However, Joyce is very cute! I'm glad she's helping you find happiness again.

I feel so very sorry to hear that you had to lay your dog to rest like that. I am realy not looking forward to the day that I might have to do that to Tsunami my cat.

Your new puppy is cute and looks like a handfull !!! Great pictures and nice to see you blog again!

Joyce is adorable! I'm sorry for your loss, and also glad that you can look back on and treasure your happy memories of Fee.

    * Paul : My father will back up The Netherlands too now that Belgium doesn't participate. But if I remember correctly, The Netherlands are in a tough group with France and Italy (can't recall the last country). But we could see some good matches.

    * Denis : Ouch Denis, that's really sad, Maggie was so young. I couldn't live without a dog, they play such a big and important role in my life. I'm a real dog person. If you really want another dog, don't hesitate

    * Phee : Yes, losing pets is always hard, no matter their age. I already lost 3 dogs before Fee, but this time was even harder because I loved Fee so much. Have a lot of fun with your dog (I saw the picture with the pumpkins, so cute!!) and take good care of him .~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    * Sharon : I really hope Tsunami will become a very old cat, just by reading your blog about Tsu (there, a new nickname ) you already can feel the love you feel for Tsu. Like you said : he's your best friend, your "buddy". Take good care of him. And I'll try to make more blogs

    * Caro : It's good to see you , Caro. I really hope you're ok. Are you coming back to GS? Say "Yes"....Pleeaaaasseee.... Do you have any pets? Can't remember if you told something about pets in your blogs. Treasuring the happy memories of someone is, I think, a sign that you're accepting the passing away of someone precious to you. But it can take quite a while (even years) before you're at that point. Before, every memory makes you cry and sad, maybe even a bit mad because you're thinking "why just that person?!?".

I rescued Pudge out of a busy road running in traffic as a puppy. Sometimes people dump animals off at the park near my house insead of the pound. I don't know why. I never intended to have another dog but Pudge came just as my dog Cassidy (13) was dying. I couldn't even be with her because my ex boyfriend kept her and moved upstate. So finding Pudge was a gift, for both of us.

The people I live with aren't big on dogs and I didn't expect them to let me keep Pudge. It's a few years later now and I think the owner of my house loves him as much as I do.

I really can't understand how some people have the guts to abandon their pets. Every time I hear such a story, it breaks my heart but it also makes me mad at those people. I don't know what I would do if I caught such a person at the precise moment when he dumps such a helpless animal. I'm not a violent person but at that moment, I'm not sure about myself.

Busy with gardening eh, Christine? JK, nice dog ...is it mutt or it have pedigree ...i have two poodles (females) ...with champion pedigree, and recently taking care of one male mutt, who like to guard my house ...from outside, so i bath him today (ok, my wify did that, i am too lazy ) and he is going to village (to my granpa, who have 2 dogs already) to a proper shelter, as its hard to deal with three dogs, believe me. I know how ya feel ...i also had to put asleep one dog...he was 14 years old ...it was a poodle too. Now, my black one is the third generation ...born in my house

How did you know that? (about the gardening) I have no clue how you knew it. You have 3 dogs, I have 9 (!) ......there, I beat you! -------> Belgium - Croatia : 1 - 0
About the garden : I have some more pictures I can post, I'll see that I can make another blog but about my gardening stuff.

    Nine is too much

Looking forward to see pics of you in your garden

Hehe, I made the pictures in the garden so I'm not on one of them.
The garden was already quite mature -especially the front garden-when I started with garden design. The big garden behind the house has had some major changes though. But.....more about that stuff later

Sorry to hear about your loss, only just yesterday one of my friends here DEVILinIRON had to say goodbye to his cat Manji in the evening .::::: I think Shi Itzu are adorable also, they are so distinct looking and cute, they look like a tiny Qilin which is probably why the Chinese revered them so much. They inspired the look of Gizmo in Gremlins I think lol. I prefer Shiba Inu's myself. My first hand experience of the Shih Tzu has been unfortunate, but I will not bore you with that. I am glad that you found a little cutie to fill the void. I bet she looked extremely cute as a little puppy!

    happy gaming.

Hello and welcome Linky ! When you keep the fur of a Shih Tzu quite short, they resemble (the head of course) an Ewok from Star Wars. I think George Lucas had a Shih Tzu as pet when he was writing his saga.
Shiba Inu's are magnificent animals, I think they're originally from Japan. But they're of course bigger than Shih Tzu's. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with a Shih Tzu.

Your little one looks a little like a Ewok now that I think about it lol. Yep, Shiba's are Japanese and very cute also when puppies, but unfortunately they do grow large. Hopefully in the future they will find a way to genetically stunt their growth permanently .::::: My friends family have two (Ying and Yang). I went to their house once after they had a power cut and their freezer had shut down during the night. His mother stupidly left out some pork chops that had gone bad and the dogs got hold of it and ended up, well Shih Tzu-ing all over the carpet in the house. It was not pleasant.

Losing a dog is very tough. I still remember the day we had to put my best friend, Bear, down. He and I had gone through so much, grown together really, old age caught up to him right before I started college though. It's several years later and I'm still not quite over it. :-) Why the smile? Because I remember the good times he brought, and I imagine him tearing up the after-life continuing to bring joy.

A couple of months later we picked up our current dog, a Lhasa Apso, same as Bear. She's very different but still cute and full of joy. Joyce is super cute though too! In the second picture she has a 'don't mess with me look.' :-)

I hope all is well Christine, despite the tough circumstances.

    * Linky : Eeek, it must have been horrible to clean it all up

    * Aretorihc : I'm glad you have found another dog who gives you so much pleasure and joy. We also have 2 Lhassa Apso's, both of them are loveable dogs, one is called Bo and the other one Lobsang. Hope all is well too with you.

What a cute little puppy. She has a friendly, yet slightly mischievous look about her. We had 2 Norwegian Elk Hounds... the male had to be put to sleep at age 15, and the female passed away a year later at 16. We're considering getting a new dog... but with our work schedules and daughter's after school activities, it probably won't be happening any time soon .

Wow, that's quite old for a dog : 15 and 16 years. I really hope you find a possibility to have a dog again cause it can also be so much fun for the children. I don't think I could live without a dog, dogs play a too important role in my life.

Especially for big dogs like that... the vet told us the average life expectancy for that breed was around 13 years, but I guess with lots of love and the proper care anything is possible. When we do welcome a new dog into our home, it'll be much smaller and with a lot less hair.

Ahh, that's a touching story . I actually went through something similar myself, our black lab died last year of bone cancer at six years old. And my family decided to get another puppy soon there after, a chocolate lab. Though Molly could never be replaced, Tessa is just as special in her own way. It's nice to hear from you again Christine, I'm going to try and write something again myself. Now that I'm more settled in after my recent move I think I can start getting more involved in GS again. I want to start doing a review once every week or two. And btw, I played Jeanne D'Arc and loved it, thanks for the suggestion .

Hey Jeff ! Great to hear from you, I hope everything is ok. I'm glad you too found another "buddy". People who never had pets don't know how you can be attached to your pet, for them the pet is just another animal. They don't know what they're missing!
I'm already looking forward to your reviews, they're always so well structured and very detailed without revealing too much about the story. I'm glad you enjoyed playing Jeanne d'Arc. I'm waiting for the release of FF VII : Crisis Core in Europe. At the moment I'm concentrating on playing FF X and MGS : The Twin Snakes. MGS has a good story but I'm a RPG lover, so you already know which game I prefer most

So very true, we form quite the connection with out pets. They definitely aren't treated like "just animals" in our house . And good call with the RPG love, I knew there was a reason I liked you (ok, there are other reasons too ). Though I too need to play through the first MGS game. I also have twin snakes for the GC, but I'm leaning towards playing the original on my PSP. Handhelds are just so convenient .
