My Friends

That One Place...

I'll just post about whatever catches my eye. Which could be dangerous. But oh well. We all love dangerous stuff, which is why we play videogames... I kid. But seriously, feel free to comment and carry on conversation and so forth.

Not feeling so hot today. Allergies out the wazoo. It's the poorest excuse for being sick, I know, but I feel miserable. I guess it's a cold? My nose is stopped up like a dang toilet full of crap and at the same time is running like a bleeding man on too much aspirin. What this means is I may only sniffle pitifully in a frail attempt at keeping from having to use a bajillion tissues. The sniffing doesn't work, however, because my nose is plugged! It's a frustrating cycle that I'm quite sure you would have felt better not knowing about

I've felt so bad I haven't even played any videogames today O.o
I think I played the demo for Mercs 2 and that was it...I really wanted to but just couldn't bring myself to do it.

But when I do feel better, I think I'll hit up Ace Combat 6 (with the flight sticks). Haven't played very much of that game and it's about time I did!

Now that Mass Effect is gone (and as I'm anxiously awaiting to see if and what Gamefly sends my way) I decided to revisit Beautiful Katamari. I never spent more than a couple hours playing that game, because honestly, I didn't find it all that addicting. I don't really think it's that fun, either. It's awesome but lame at the same time. Kind of reminds me of the way they do Dynasty Warriors (same song, 100th verse, never gets better but only gets more-oudated-looking), but its mysterious quirkiness and fish-eat-fish gameplay mechanic keeps it somehow satisfying to roll up entire planets. But I got it for like $20 so I'd say it's good enough for that. I finally "beat the game" but I still have one extra stage left, even though I saved the cosmos...Guess I'm doing that tomorrow.

Anyone want to take a wild guess on what brought me back?

    Achievements. Duh.

Picked up a few tonight (like 6 or so) and plan on going for a couple more before I put it away for good. While I'm going for achievements, I'm not going for completionistchievements. That is, I'm not going for 1000/1000. Just whatever seems feasible.

Though I must admit I'm halfway anticipating my Xbox 360 to red-ring in the near future. Why? Because I'm doing something stupid to get a couple achievements. I'm leaving my Xbox 360 on for the next 6ish hours overnight to try and build up towards a "100 hours playtime" achievement. Stupid, I know. But hey, crack addicts will do anything to get their crack.

It's never been more fun to be a metaphorical crack addict than it is now.
    ------------------------
On a side note, anyone notice the weird similarities between the boxart for Left 4 Dead and Dead Space? Why so similar? Hah.

Well, I've put Mass Effect back in its GameFly envelope and it's being put in the mail tomorrow morning.
I lack only a small bit of the achievements I set out to get, but I depserately need a break from that game. After 55+ hours of playtime, I simply cannot force myself to make two more playthroughs at the moment. Thankfully, my cousin has the game, and he'll be mailing it to me for free so I can play when I feel like it. In the meantime, I can start trying to get other games from GameFly. That is, if they decide they have enough copies to send me one of the good ones... x.x
We'll see how that goes. I'm not expecting much.

Anyways, I know some of you probably think I'm stupid for doing things such as whining about not being able to get a particular achievement, but hey, it's part of the reason I play these games. For me, any way you can have fun playing a videogame is justification for doing so. I ended up getting the achievement I talked about not getting in my previous blog. Apparently the game does not recognize the boss character "Fist" as an "organic" who qualifies for the achievement. I dunno if that makes any sense. Basically you can use the power on him all you want but it doesn't count. So I tried it again on a non-boss and ta-daa! It worked.

So in other news, I'm hoping to finish up Carnivale Season Two in the very near future. I only have 2-3 episodes left and I'm not looking forward to a hey-this-show-got-cancelled ending. It was a slow but elegantly moving show that has built up steam tremendously since season one and it's going to be a shame to see it end. Just watched the episode "Lincoln Highway" from season two and it is quite possibly my favorite episode from any TV show of all time. Yes, even out of all the awesome Lost episodes I could pick. It was simply beautiful. Stunning cinematography and setting and plot progression. It was wonderful. If anyone has seen this show let me know. Even better, if you know the specific episode I'm referring to, you are now my hero.

Also in the realm of TV, I've started watching Rob and Big. Uh-freaking-mazing. Never knew this show even existed until last week and now I watch it all the time. Thankfully I have DVR so I can record them all and watch them in order (yea I just kinda haveta watch them in order x.x). This is my new favorite show.

And last but not least, here is a shout-out to the Colbert Report. It's the only kind of politics I can handle, and proves day by day why these people in this area of our lives are idiots. But that's just my take on it.

Thanks for reading and commenting to those who do! I appreciate it so much.

Cause I can't get this stupid achievement in Mass Effect. I got four of the "Specialist" achievements all at about the same time. Here is how: Level up just high enough to gain access to all achievement-related skills for your respective class (biotics and tech, for those who have played). Find a segment of the game where the powers work. Cast the powers on the enemies. Reload save game that I made right before the fight. Rinse, repeat 75 times, unlock achievements. The game keeps track of how many powers you've used even when you don't save.

Problem is, there is one power that this didn't work on. I cannot, for the life of me, get "Neural Shock Specialist." I've even cast it 75 times at an organic enemy! Not the wall or a machine! I did a count by hand and used this method 85 times and it didn't unlock. I can't figure out what the crap is wrong! Anyone help me? This is really frustrating...

In other news, my parents were here this weekend visiting and are leaving tomorrow. It was really nice to get to see them again! Tonight we watched The Pianist, one of my favorite movies of all time. Too bad Roman Polanski had to go and have sex with a 13 year old and flee to France...

    That's terribly disappointing indeed.

    Well, kinda.

I finished my first playthrough today, clocking in at 40 hours (does that include time the game is paused? If so you can probably detract like 5 from the total...). I delved deep into the Mass Effect universe, reading all of the codex entries I came across and listening to all possible dialogue options and completing an overwhelming portion of the side quests. I was a bit skeptical of the game while I was playing the first half or so but the game really grew on me. The story was enjoyable but I was expecting more of a twist at the end. Despite the lack of twist, however, the ending was very satisfying and I am very happy with the game on the whole.

Now onto my next two playthroughs! I'll be upping the difficulty each time and using a different class each time. I did my first run as a soldier, my second will be as an engineer, and the last will be as an adept. Each run I'll be using two different characters to get their respective achievements. I'm very much looking forward to playing through again, mostly because it will be very much condensed. No more codex reading or unnecessary quests! Only the essentials! Which reminds me that I think I actually have to level up my current character to 60 before my next runs, but eh, we'll see.

Anyways, onto other things. I unfortunately did NOT get to go see Eagle Eye. I went to the theatre but saw that my tiny little theater had a line going out the door, and it was already time for the show to get started. So I gave up and went to the wonderful Hastings store. For those who don't know, this is a wonderful place to find awesomely cheap movies. My wife and I bought 6 (used) movies for $14! I bought four of them out of a two-dollar bin, and the other two were $4 each. On top of that, it was buy two used, get one for a penny. So yea, do the math. Here is the list and the respective prices:

Beowulf - $2 - Yea, it may not be any good, but for that cheap? Heck yea!
We Own the Night - $2 - Heard this was cliche, but oh well. Cheaper than a rental!
Chaos - $2 - Mindless action movie? Check.
2 Days in Paris - $2 - Had to get something for the wife... x.x
Invasion - $4 - I really like Daniel Craig but have my doubts about this movie...
Charlie Wilson's War - $4 - I've heard really good things about this and its supposed true story so we'll see how it goes!

And at buy two get one free I just couldn't resist...

Maybe a Mass Effect review soon? Who knows? Maybe later? Iono?

Yea, it has to do with Mass Effect. Sorry to keep "spamming" that game but really, it's the only one I'm playing at the moment...

Anyways, could someone explain to me how things work once I complete my first playthrough? What I mean is, I can start a new game with my same character? His level stays the same? How does all that work? Do I retain the same class or can I pick another one (and subsequently, does choosing another one put my level back to nothing?) Just anything and everything you can tell me about what my options are after gameover would be helpful. I need to know because I might be wasting my time doing uneccessary sidequests when I could just press on to the goal.

In non-Mass Effect news, I'm going to see Eagle Eye in the theater tomorrow (hopefully), so be looking for a review of that soonly

Thanks for any and all help!

So power keeps randomly flickering in the house. Not like really frequent, but it's been happening like once every other day.

Resetting the digital clocks is annoying...

Anywho, I'm currently procrastinating. Should be doing statistics homework. But I'm not. But I'll try not to ramble too much

I'm enjoying Mass Effect, but I find it a strange mix of tediousness and fun. It's hard to describe. It's like I love playing it but at the same time I can't wait until it's over. I've invested between 25 and 30 hours in this game so far...that might be part of the reason. My attention span is suffering, haha. Anyways, what's worse, me and my achievement-whoring self are going to make two more play-throughs on the next two difficulties to go for the big 1000/1000...but then there's the DLC...well, you get the idea. Basically it will be my demise.

I should be done with my first go-round tomorrow. Just beat Virmire and about to do some more side stuff before the final parts of the game. The story is definitely what everyone said it would be.

So yea, I've been wanting to increase my Gamefly rentals from one-at-a-time to two-at-a-time, but I know there's no point while I'm spending all my time with Mass Effect. Guess I'll wait until I complete my second playthrough or something. So what's going on with you guys? Feel free to chime in on what you're playing and what I'm missing out on.

Been a while, hasn't it? I needed a break from Gamespot for a bit. Dunno if I'm back for good or not but can't hurt to make a lil blog. I've been keeping up with my friends' blogs but not commenting or anything until now, just so ya knows .

Anywho, yea yea I know Call of Duty 4 is from a long time ago, so anyone who is planning on mentioning that in the form of a snooty comment can just save your wee little finger the effort involved in typing a response. I wanted to type a review, so by golly, I did it. If you feel like reading it, you can find it here. I tried to keep it a bit shorter...let me know if I succeeded and let me know whatcha think (Just to give you an idea, my GTA4 review was 1,500+ words, this one is like 650 words...). I've seen it done, but how do you put images in your reviews? I couldn't figure out how to put the above image in my review.

And for those who don't know, I love Lost. As such, I include "the numbers" in my graphic. Also, a new addition, I'm using the Dharma station logos from the show as my "stars" to represent the number. No decimal points, just a 10 point scale. Trust me, it works for me. I know the 5-star version is great and all because it simply says which games are great or good or ok and so on, but I like having *rankings.* Being opinionated, it's easier for me to say "I like this game more than that, so the lesser gets an 8 while the better gets a 9" rather than "Oh these are both good so they both get 4 stars." I dunno, maybe that's just me x.x

Sorry for the rant . Hope you like the review! And sorry if you don't care one way or the other P.S. to any who are curious, I'm currently gaming with no other than Mass Effect.

So where I live, we have to get our internet, cable, and phone line through the same company. It just so happens though that said company won't provide us with any service. They were supposed to call on either tuesday or wednesday telling us what our new phone number was going to be and basically setting up our phone line for us. That never happened. We also never received the shipment with the stuff to set up the internet and cable. It's been a week, and still I've heard nothing back from them.

I'm currently mooching off an unsecured internet line, but it doesn't work consistently, is frustrating, and scares me of having my comps hacked, so I've just been getting online via my wife's crappy Dell laptop. So if that gets hacked, oh well. Not like it doesn't act like it has been already.

Anyways, most of the boxes are cleared up. We just have some heavy cleaning to do after we finish arranging everything. I've been done with building furniture for a couple days, and it's a wonderful thing. I dunno if I said this already but I ended up having to build a pretty large desk/hutch combination. Took me like two full days. Haha.

In better news, I should be getting the new puppy either next friday or the friday following that.

In worse news, school starts on Monday.

    Ugh.

Soo yea. I'm typing this from my new rental house as I mooch off of a neighbor's internet, waiting for my internet stuff to be sent to me via mail. Oh, wonderful.

Stuff is getting steadily put in its place. Yesterday I spent nearly all the money we accrued from getting married (you know, when people give you stuff for getting married and such. They call them "showers"...note the sarcasm).

We went and had a heyday buying groceries and furniture and all the stuff both big and small that was still needed for the house. Problem for me is, most of the aforementioned furniture was Target assemble-it-yourself stuff. It looks nice, don't get me wrong, but it's a pain in the butt. I finished one and got about four more major projects to go.

What makes it worse is that this furniture has to be completed so we can finish unloading the boxes. Stuff has to have somewhere to go! And this furniture is all there to provide us with storage space we didn't have previously.

Anywho, I got one week til school starts and no real time to relax. Sure, we have been sleeping in some, but that's not really my idea of relaxing.
I wanna just chill and watch movies and such.

Anyways, there's a little update for any concerned. I just happened to come back to see the new Gamespot, which I'm sure is old news by now. Looks pretty snazzy.

And for all the smartalecs out there, I'm still keeping some form of the Dark Knight review bottled up in the back of my mind

    Latas!

Yup, didn't last for long did it? Actually I'm only gone for...well...a day or two. Tomorrow, my wife and I are leaving her old home and moving the remaining stuff via our cars into our new home some good hours away. It's not huge but it is a considerable distance. Enough so to be very annoying. I can't see out of my rear-view mirror with all the stuff in my car. Bah.

Anyways, I may or may not have access to a computer tomorrow, but even less likely is internet access unless I can mooch off of a neighbor. Anyways, point is, wish me luck in my second move. The first one was just furniture, this is all the loose ends.

Unpacking will be a pain in the butt.
    Especially after driving.
Oh well, I'm done complaining now...haha. I'm just ready to settle down is all

Just got back from the honeymoon today! The cruise was pretty amazing if I do say so myself! I still have to get my land legs back though...haha. Everywhere I go it feels like I'm swaying.

So anyways, I'm a little bit poorer now, but nothing major. Honeymoons can do that to ya. So it seems I have a lot of catching up to do! I'll read up on the blogs some tomorrow probably...right now I'm too tired. I had quite a bit of driving/riding to do today to get back to my wife's old house unfortunately. We have to pack up her room and head out in the next couple of days. Hopefully it will all go smoothly.

Anyways, I'll post a couple pictures in a few days probably. Gotta do some Photoshop touching up first . Also, for any who are curious, the wedding went smoothly and everything fell into place as I had hoped. And now I've got a ring on my finger and all that good stuff.

edit: yes, that would make her my wife and not fiance...

Well guys, it's finally here. I'll be getting married in less than six hours.

Everything seems to be on schedule, but I guess we'll see.

Anyways guys, just letting you all know you probably won't hear anything from me for about a week. I look forward to returning with some pictures and stories and such! Have a great week guys. I'll be trying not to pass out at the altar. Good stuff like that

    See ya!

So it's the day before the wedding, and I still have to buy Groomsmen gifts. Anyone got any ideas for me? I know it's not as easy as that, just thought I would ask.

Also, good news is that everything tomorrow seems to be on track and I think it will all be done when the time comes. I just fear Murphy's Law...

Anyways I've all but given up on a Batman review for now...but if all goes well I'd like to try and get that out of the way tonight. I do want to, I just sound like I don't

And then I'm a married man. I just wish everything wasn't so stressful. It seems like everyone is on edge, including myself. This is supposed to be a really enjoyable time, but honestly I'm anxiously awaiting it all being over so I can relax...

Anyways, been busy all day today with planning and fixing stuff and had no time to write a Batman review...I might be able to tomorrow. I think I'll have some free time, but who knows? It's been really hectic, but I'll cram it in if I can.

Anyways, I'll keep it short and sweet. Gotta wake up early tomorrow anyways so I need to go to bed. Tomorrow is when all the family starts rollin into town. Should be interesting.

Yup, as you could hopefully guess from the title, I saw The Dark Knight today.

I'll be writing a review later, as I'm not really in the mood to right now. Not really sure when that is gonna go down cause I'm afraid of forgetting stuff...but to sum it up, I have mixed emotions about it. Mostly good, but some criticism. No flaming til I post my own score, alright? Hehe.

Who knows? I may write it right after I finish this blog. Maybe not. I dunno. Mostly due to the fact that I have no idea what I'm going to end up doing, thanks to wedding planning last-minute stuff and such. Just letting anyone who cares to read yet more on The Dark Knight that I'll be posting a review pretty soon.

In other news, I got a Zune. Got one of those slightly older 30gb versions used, saved 100+ bucks, and it seems to work fine. Still gotta test out the battery though. I also put down a subscription to the Zune Pass, which so far seems like an AMAZING feature. Anyone know if there are any catches? Also, if you cancel service for a month or something, does all your downloaded music get erased or just simply locked (or some equivalent)?

Anyways, regardless, the service has not disappointed yet as I've been able to download countless albums I was always too scared to buy on iTunes because I didn't want to dislike them and waste $10. Now, I can download anything and everything that even remotely interests me for "free"! I hope I'm not just naive and they are actually screwing me over without me knowing it...haha. Well, give me a heads-up if they are .

That's all for now! I'll probably be starting on the review soon, but first I have to catch up on my episodes of The Mole...

Yup! It's been a while since I got GTA IV and now I finally have a new game!

My fiance gave me Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action as part of my wedding gift. While it is most definitely not for the hardcore among us, I'm really glad I got it! Finally a game I can play with her on a consistent basis! We've played it a few times already, and I've also discovered this is also a game that she can beat me in. Often.
    Pictograph question
Oh, the simplicity of Scene It.

The only problem is that I get frustrated easily when I don't know a lot of the answers. But I guess I'll learn by playing it. Losing isn't as big of a deal to me as being dumbfounded by a lot of the trivia.
Multiplayer goodness in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

I'm also thinking of getting Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. It'd only cost me about $10 or so to buy used, and I've been wanting to get it for a while. I have some other money I'm "allowed" to spend, but I might just save it for those first couple weeks in November. I mean, seriously, all the publishers are smoking. I know that at least Mirror's Edge, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War 2, and The Last Remnant come out in the first two weeks of November, and in October, Rock Band 2, Fallout 3, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Saints Row 2, Fifa Soccer 09, Tom Clancy's EndWar, Fable II, Dead Space, and Far Cry 2 all come out.

I think my head is going to explode. I need GameFly. Or something just like it. Now.

Those games are not all must-haves for me, per se, but I'm very interested in all of them and would like to play them all. I know it sounds bad, but I kind of can't wait to see the reviews to see which games rate poorly so I can take some off my list ungrudgingly...

Well guys, one week from yesterday (today being Sunday at 1:05 a.m.) I'll be a married man.

Next Saturday is the big day.

Wish me luck preparing and finalizing everything. The groomsmen still lack gifts and pants. O.o

I think I'm more nervous about finalizing everything than I am about actually standing up at the altar...

I know I've already mentioned all this before, but what can I say? I took a six hour drive to my fiance's parents' house today and it's all kind of settling in that this is actually going to happen.

And no, I couldn't possibly make more paragraphs to try and add to the dramatic effect of this blog.

    Ok, so maybe I can...

So yea. I was going to post a blog last night rather than today, but I had a minor hiccup.

By which I mean I was flipping out.

Why? Because someone hijacked my eBay account. And I had to sort it out with customer service. Apparently, some third party came into my account and listed a Tractor up for sale. I found out about this when someone sent me an email saying I was a fraud and committing a felony.

As you can imagine, my reaction to that was...not positive. Now, here's where things just get plain weird. Shortly after contacting customer support, they asked me what the item number was. Well, I gave them one and they couldn't find the item. Turns out the item number changed every time I refreshed the page. What the crap?!

Also, within the listing, potential buyers were instructed to email the seller via a separate email address, as he "could not be reached" by using the "contact seller" option provided by eBay. What's worse, it had some sob story about how he was selling it because it was a gift for his brother, but his brother recently passed away and he has no desire to continually be reminded of his brother's presence. Hah.

Luckily, eBay's security team figured it out for me, removed the listing, and credited me with any fees associated with the auction. However, they severely pissed me off. They simply refused (weren't allowed) to tell me if the listing was made from my own home computer. I desperately wanted to know this to see if it was a virus! But they just wouldn't tell me. What the freaking crap?! Geez. So basically, I'm really paranoid right now. I feel like everything I do has been monitored, and things like my email and bank account have had their security compromised.

    Ugh. This really sucks.

So, I have two days left here in my home before I hit the road to meet up with my fiance. About a week and a half from now I'm getting married, for those of you who don't know, and I'm heading over there to help with ironing out the final plans and such. Should be loads of stress-filled fun. Right.

So in my gaming news, I'm two levels away from getting Halo 3 finally beaten on Legendary, and many more levels away from the meta-game achievements (like 6 I think...geez.) So yea, making slow but sure progress. I'm giving Crackdown a break, but I'll be coming back to it soon. Currently hitting up some Fifa, and soon I'll try my hand at Madden. I'm kind of in a miniature sports game mood...which doesn't come often. So I'm playing while I can . Anywho, that's about it for now.
    Uh oh. Broke his ankles.
