Uh, level 37. That's only 7 away from 44! And it only took me 3.3 or so years. :>

Up - 9
Vertigo - 10I've finally finished applying to university; the week where I did all the work at once was probably the most stressed I've ever been. I've settled for a Maths/French joint-honour degree at Southampton, Cardiff, Exeter or Birmingham. I stilldon't know whether Maths is something I'd like to study though, so it wouldn't surprise me if I change my mind and take a gap year. The degree contains a one-year stay in France, though, which is very appealing, even though it's not that far away. That'd be an interesting period if I do decide to attend this course.
King Crimson are starting to become one of my favourite bands (though in fairness it isn't as if my music discography is huge. >_>) after their final 70's album Red finally managed to sink in after a couple of listens. Their debut album, In The Court... is outstanding, but 'Starless' on Red is probably my favourite song by them; the juxtaposition of the song's mood is very interesting.
And that's all I have to say in this dull time where I have nothing better to do. >:

Some more movie ratings:
Mulholland Drive: 10
Big Trouble in Little China: 6
Stalker: 10
The Day The Earth Stood Still (original): 6
Andrei Rublev: 10
Fargo: 8
Natural Born Killers: 4
American Beauty: 10
Burn After Reading: 8I've finally decided that next year I'll be attending Cardiff university to study Mathematics and French on a four-year joint honours course. I've still got a personal statement to write but hopefully by tonight the first draft will be completed. I've spent a lot of time wondering what I'd like to do, and I still don't know whether I've made the right choice; it's definitely the safe one, though.
Making steady progress with guitar. Learnt three one-minute songs now and I'm starting to get the hang of playing chords without accidentally muting other strings. I just hope to God that Santa will bring me an electric guitar with an amplifier for Christmas.
Me? I'm just fine and dandy. I had a horrible day of depression not too long ago but I'm over that. School is becoming more interesting, academics and social-wise, every day and I'm finally making progress through Shakespeare's King Lear which I should have read ages ago. Also, Ye Olde English a la Geoffrey Chaucer for the win. When I'm done with these school books I'll read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K. Dick as I absolutely adore its movie counterpart. And that's it I think. I don't know what else to type so I'll leave it there.

The holiday has already taken place. Went to stay at a shall... Shall... Uhm - it's pronounced shall-é of my mother's friend for one day near a beach. Went to the beach. Got my feet wet. It rained. Got everything wet. :/ Not all that bad though; our occupation had a Playstation (where I had the opportunity to relive the Tomb Raider days - I loved these games as a kid!), and The Deer Hunter!
The Deer Hunter - 10/10. De Niro and Walken are captivating. Must see. Simple. Will see next: Reqiuem for a Dream.
Currently reading Sense and Sensibility for school. I love Austen's writing as it is grammatically excellent, though a bugger to read, as I sometimes need to re-read a sentence or two to ensure I comprehend it. Not a bad book: insists on discussing thehumandisposition. No real likeable characters; the two protagonists insist on disliking everybody for whatever reason. Begins to get good towards the end though, as we learn of the characters' motives, and everything is tied together.
Will read next: King Lear. Also, had my braces out. Hurray. Now I've got to wear a retainer to ensure they don't become misshapen again. I look like some ... grandmother (kudos to those who get the reference) ... taking out her false teeth every now and then. :/
And finally: created an account of The Foreign Grounds. Hurray and that. ;L
'til next time, adios!

So I've made some progress with guitar; I've learnt some of the chromatic scales (or something) and that's pretty easy, though the teacher has started teaching me some blues, which is great since I love bluesy music. I'm having trouble getting my head around chords though. Unless I'm looking directly at the wiresI intend to strike, I always end up hitting the wrong ones. That'll come with time and effort though I suppose.
This is the fourth week of my summer holidays and I'm starting to get worried that I haven't started any of my work for school, most notably my university application form. I hardly know where I want to go yet, though Cardiff sticks out in my mind; I'll probably go there and do a doctorate in Mathematics. Then again, I'm quite interested in linguistics, so I might go for a Joint honours with some modern language (Italian sounds good. Or Russian. Or Mandarin. God I have no clue. D: ) and Mathematics, Psychology or Law. Or perhaps Journalism. Then again, I need to get decent A Level results first. My AS Level results are coming in next Thursday, by theway, so I guess I'll make another update then aswell.
I'm also really pissed off with my local cinema. The damn place is one of the only interesting things in this terribly boring town, yet it does not show any movie there which I would like to see. Moon... Antichrist... Granted given the age rating I'd probably not be able to see that one anyway, but that is beside the point!

Anywho, I've been spending quite a bit of my time in the evenings reading Footfall by the science fiction duo, Niven and Pournelle. The story is typically about aliens, and it is built up brilliantly from the beginning; detailing how the Soviet Union and the US governments prepare foran encounter with an alien spaceship that is believed to be heading for Earth. The novel was written during the Cold War, so during the early stages of the story there is a lot of Commie - Capitalist paranoia with both countries suspecting that the impending arrival of the ship is actually a trick by the other country so that said country could launch an attack on the other while the other is distracted by the 'aliens'.
Of course, when the ship arrives, things turn nasty and we have an aliens vs humanity battle occuring, and the book basically covers the reactions of the characters to the invasion, and how they try to survive. The book covers the invasion from the point of view of the aliens aswell (or the fithp, as they call themselves; who are described as baby elephants with an extra trunk. Baby elephant invaders. Yes, that is correct), so it is interesting to see the motives and plans of the aliens, aswell as the Russian and US governments' plans totry to thwart the aliens in their bid to take over Terra.
The book is actually far more complex than it seems in my terrible attempt at summing it up, so if you are a fan of sci-fi, and reading (>_>), then be sure to give this a try.
Finally, I've just finished season 2 of House M.D. and I'm very happy that it ended on a high note, as the season seemed to be pretty dull for a while. I'm trying to catch up, as I've started watching season 5 on tv; I loved it and bought the first four seasons in a box set. Hugh Laurie is excellent, and is the main reason why I've been able to follow the show; something I haven't managed since Futurama many years ago.And that is it. That was perhaps the most poorly constructed thing I have ever typed. >_>
Ciao.

Damnit!
I've just been up the school to discuss subjects with one of the teachers and it turns out taking 5 AS level courses is way too much work, so I had to drop Law (Before I went up the school I went to the local college to enrol for law - 2 hours later I'm told I would have to drop a subject to makes things easier; Law was always going to be the victim if this were to happen. What a waste of time eh?) and I'm going to be studying English, Maths, Geography and French next year. Sounds great, I can't wait for my timetable! - hopefully I won't have lessons in the morning so I can sleep in!

Tagged? "WUT IZ DIS TAGGED?", I pondered after reading Tsug's latest blog post. Now I know, and I'm uber-pissed-off with you!
Well, here goes something:10) I'm actually 16
9) My full name is Liam Thomas Powell.
8. Liam backwards is "Mail". D:
7.5) I keep posting 8 + ) together, hence creating the 'cool' smiley. It ticks me off, some...
7) I'm Welsh (Yeh, "where's 'Wales'?" >_>)
6) My favourite sport is rugby, which is a problem since the majority of the Gamespot population is American - and American's don't watch it.

5) My favourite movie is The Shawshank Redemption, for obvious reasons.
4) I post mainly in Gamespot Off-Topic nowadays, since System Wars is full of newbie trolls who claim their opinions to be facts.
3) Tsug and I have our differences but we love each other really.

2) I'm learning French in school at the moment, and would love to learn German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and Swedish in future. D:
1) I'm God.
Oh also. You have now been tagged.
Bite me, whoreface!

Ok, I don't make blog posts often. In fact, this is only my 2nd since I first created an account 2 years ago.
I'm really annoyed now, that the rules here on Gamespot have become so harsh that your posts can be twisted in a way that makes them seem like they're bad enough for a moderation. Seriously, it's almost as if you get modded for the slightest thing now. My recent suspension for example; I was apparantly flaming when I told someone, who this past week has shown me that he's an utter troll (I won't name names *cough GhostMLD *cough*), not to post something irrelevant and ask me to try something against the rules in my thread. Of course, this warrants a seven day suspension, naturally, and a point loss (I'm never going to get past level 30 at this rate
).I'll most likely be banned before that; for something really petty no doubt, since that seems to be the case most of the time nowadays.
