still systemless
well, o.k. i've successfully made the transition from notoriously poor student to valiant working joe. i hate work. the only positive is that i can now remedy the fact that i'm systemless and going nuts. my wife is happier now. she can quit her job and spend time with the kids until mid-septemeber or so, when the academic rigormorale begins again. but y'know none of the present-gen systems really make sense to me. the 360 is still and unreliable piece of crap as far as i'm concerned (despite an increasingly excellent game library). The Ps3 is too expensive and it doesn't look like any game will really justify the price until it drops (which it will, unless Sony wants its game division to go **** in the near future) and the Wii...well, I was lucky to find the first one I owned, and it's just as unavailable now as it was in January. Plus, I just wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. so far, it appears to be the home of graphically underpowered, half-assed games with poorly implemented motion controls. I'd like to see MP:3 change all of that, but i'm really not prepared to hold my breath.
So, when I get my first paycheck on the 8th, i'm going to go with the DS. The system is a true bargain by my reckoning, and with games like Lunar Knights, Pokemen Diamond and other esteemed luminaries, it's really a no-brainer...except that if there's a Wii on the shelves, I'll be obligated to buy it without hesitation. The release date for Coruption has finally been announced, and it might finally be time to start gearing up for Retro's seriously under-rated Halo-killer to release.
Student loan checks come out in September, and after paying for tuition, books and rent i'll have apx. 2,800 dollars left to dispose of how I see fit. That might just be the perfect time to finally resolve the whol Ps3/xbox360 debate. for me personally, that is. you fanboys can all just duck and cover for all I care.

system-less
well, i'm systemless for a while.
i owned a Wii for a while and, sure, I understand why so many people like the system so much, but it just wasn't doing it for me. there are only two or three quality games available for it right now. plus a boatload of crap being unloaded on unsuspecting gamers by the shovelfull. and that doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. maybe by christmas. maybe not. if Nintendo ever gets around to releasing M
3, i may give it another whirl.the ps3? hmmm...maybe after the price drops by a third and some decent games release, but probably not. sony might just have to leverage its blue-ray player through other folks. unless MGS4 is thirty one flavors of awesome. but i don't see that happening...the first three installments felt more like watching a really cheesy b-movie than playing a game to me.
ah, the 360. i'm really lusting after bioshock and mass effect right now. those games look like they might even be pushing the envelope to a certain extent, which is pretty much unheard of in the ultra-conservative circles that typify today's videogame industry. then again, it could just be clever marketing. and the 360 craps out far too often. i've asked myself how microsoft people sleep at night knowing how they're selling such a poorly manufactured product at such a steep price. but then i realize that they probably sleep quite well. i think ms is getting fat and sassy, just like sony.
ah, well. enough of a rant for tonight. more later...
