All About Sophia

This is where I ramble on about various topics... once in awhile, when I'm feeling particularly ambitious, there might even be pictures!

Gaming marathon, and no I did not see New Moon

That doesn't mean half-naked werewolf boys aren't in my future though, I just didn't have time to go and I'm not really sure I want to pay money for it. Instead, I brought a stack of games home with me from the office so I could catch up. I was a little worried about being mugged, because if they were gamers, they would have scored a serious jackpot. At least that's how I felt Not that I would ever mug anyone with games...

So here's what I played! This was like video game speed dating, I didn't spend a ton of time with each.

Modern Warfare 2 - I surprisingly really liked this game. I probably spent the most time with this over the weekend and I can't stop playing it. I don't even like shooters that much (or war related games), and I hate playing them by myself! But I found myself going through the campaign on my own. Played a bit of spec ops with my brother which was super fun. I can't wait to play multiplayer on Thanksgiving, hopefully we'll get 3 Xboxes hooked up.

Assassin's Creed 2 - Ehh... I didn't like the first one so much, granted I didn't play a lot of it, and I didn't play much of the 2nd either but they're so similar that I promptly lost interest after falling off the roof a few times. Italy is quite nice though.

Ninja Blade - This game was mindless fun and entertaining to watch, but I took a break in between a mission and realized later that it DOESN'T SAVE mid-mission so that pissed me off and I didn't go back to it.

    Borderlands - Vertical split-screen sucks.

    Left 4 Dead 2 - See above.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Played a lot of this cooperatively with my brother to get all the coins. It's quite fun and we were yelling at each other a lot. Stressful but entertaining

Uncharted 2 - Nathan is much more attractive than Ezio, which is probably why I'm more drawn to this game. Just kidding. I really like how the game is set up in terms of gameplay/cut scene ratio and I haven't gotten very far but I'd like to keep playing. It's very cinematic and I love the score.

Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time - I didn't realize how funny Ratchet games were. This one is really well done but I'm not sure if I want to go through the game considering I didn't play the others.

I also did create a character in Dragon Age, but I didn't get very far... I literally just created the character and had to shut down :p

    Tag, you're it!

I don't pay much attention to internet trends, so I haven't been keeping up with this whole tagging thing. But since @dragonfly110tagged me (and I actually noticed), I'll jump on the bandwagon and give you 10 facts about myself. Instead of tagging others, how about you guys share 1 random fact about you?

    Here goes!

    1. I'm Canadian. Not a big secret, but people are still surprised when they find out. I wasn't born there, was born in Hong Kong but I'm a citizen there because I left HK when I was 1. I moved to California 9 years ago.

    2. I played the piano for 10 years (ok, that's pretty obvious if you've seen the Name That Tune videos) and I had been teaching on and off for 12 years after.

    3. I mudded for 7 years. I was so addicted, I think I nearly dropped half of my classes one year in high school, but I got my act together, quit the game cold turkey and graduated with honors. Then went on to university where I promptly picked up the bad habit again. This is why I don't play MMOs.

    4. My favourite band is the Smashing Pumpkins, back when they were good and they were still together as a band.

    5. My biggest pet peeve is arrogance. I can't stand it when people think they're hot stuff when they're not. There's a difference between confidence and being a douche.

    6. Favourite game of all time is tied between Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World. It's hard to think which one I like more. So many great memories tied to both.

    7. I've always wanted to be some kind of artist. I'm happy I make a living doing what I like to do but I always wished I could draw or paint really well.

    8. I can speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese and French. English is actually my third language and I initially learned it off of Sesame Street.

    9. I'm still afraid of the dark.

    10. I love my dog Bailey so much (the big one) that when I hug him at night, I feel like all my problems go away and I can focus on just how warm and stinky he is. I also love the way he smells.

    Your turn! 1 juicy fact.

    Answering your questions...

From two blog posts ago! Let's get started:

For everyone who has been asking about my PSN, it's gs_sophia. Don't expect me to be online that often, I hardly ever play online to begin with :p but if I do, it'll probably be Resistance 2 or Uncharted 2.

@Rossuron- No, not a big Sens fan. I don't really follow hockey but I wanted them to win the other year

@majadamus- I'm not into the MW2 craze, mainly because I don't get all crazy about shooters. I'll get it for the multiplayer though, to shoot my friends. Otherwise, I'm not a fan of that military stuff.

@this_tyranny- Christmas wishlist? Xmas is like a celebration of retail for me and my family Although in the past few years, with the bad economy, we're trying to not blow money on buying each other stuff and just focus on the fact that we can spend some quality time together as a family. I really just want everyone to be happy and healthy. As for material things, I could always use more clothes, haha I know, I'm boring. If you had askedme a few years ago, I'd given you a big fat list.

@SonicHomeboy- sadly I'm only like 20 puzzles into Prof Layton I suck.

@pakhair- Top 10 games eh? Let's see... These are the games I've previewed and really liked. I have a lot of games that I haven't played yet, but look awesome. So far it's New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Muramasa, Zelda Spirit Tracks, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Professor Layton, Half-Minute Hero, Secret of Monkey Island, Wii Sports Resort, LocoRoco 2, Trine... is that good enogh?

@johnsteed7- Favourite song to play on the piano: Anything by Clementi, his stuff just kind of rolls off my fingertips. The stuff that I've learned at least. Poutine is fries, cheese and gravy all together! I haven't blogged about my dogs because I guess they haven't done anything that is really blog worthy. The sleeves in the Stitch costume weren't closed off, so I still had my hands free. I'm not sure why people think Lark and I look alike, because we both wear glasses? I don't know if it weirded me out, but I know that people are weird in general. And yes, by playing games early and seeing them multiple times, I lose the motivation to play them when they're out. It's okay though, I had my fun And no, don't worry about the # of questions asked

@JodyR- I'll blog about you one day Jody because you're so awesome! Games outside of work? I don't play that much outside of work these days because I don't have the time. But when I do, probably Resistance 2 with friends, Halo... used to play a lot of Rock Band and Mario Party... also with friends. I guess I don't like gaming on my own :p I mostly play RPGs by myself, like Final Fantasy but it's been awhile since the last game!

@ubergusterfan- the Twilight fad is interesting... the books were okay, I think there's some good ideas but poor execution in the writing and the movies. I don't think the guys are particularly hot, but they do have some kind of appeal... maybe it's the topless thing lol. I don't know, but it's a shallow romance that's so unrealistic that maybe girls want that kind of fantasy in their life? I thought the books were easy reads and the writing keeps you mostly engaged and you just want to know what happens next. I want to see the movie to see what a new director could do with it, because the last one was laughably bad.
