5Dec 07... when I kind of wonder why I never followed through on that whole plan to be a translator at the UN.

10Apr 06Just a note to let folks know, I'll be turning off the usersubmission system later today to do some DB tuning that will, hopefully, help speed usersub up some. It will be closer towards the end of the day (pacific time). Missribs will be supplying updates as they become available.

12Mar 06I've just got done checking all the logfiles and timestamps, and from my perspective everything looks to have run as usual. 99% of the time, if the cron breaks, I can tell from the logfiles before anyone even reports errors what has gone wrong and what errors to be expecting, and nothing stands out to me as problematic right now. However, with moving servers and making dns and ip changes, there's always room for new, more exotic permissions errors.
If you disagree with my assessment, please PM me with a list of shows for which you feel you've missed out on an update. I'll look into error reports on a case by case basis tomorrow.- Posted Mar 12, 2006 7:09 am PT

10Mar 06Tomorrow (Saturday), we will be moving some of our servers from one data center to another. I will be around Sunday morning checking up on the daily crons (contribution points specifically). If anyone notices any problems, I'll be checking responses to this blog pretty frequently, as well as, of course, private messages.

19Jan 06well, we finally got the new community stuff rolled out, thank heavens. we basically just ran up against a hardware wall and had to add a bunch more boxes as well as do a little juidicious optimizing. so far things are looking fairly good, but we're still monitoring everything pretty closely.

5Jan 06hello everyone. we had a db problem over new years that broke replication. this causesd levels to run bizarrely, and we managed to roll levels back to a point where everyhthing looks okay.
on a side note, sorry i haven't been as available for blogging/fora etc. i've picked up some extra responsibility around here, and so my time is more limited than before. i'm still reading pm's, but im afraid i just can't answer them all.
i'm in constant contact with the lovely missribs, though, so any problems you have that go through her that are technical in nature will def. get to me.- Posted Jan 5, 2006 5:48 pm PT

3Dec 05hello all and sundry, if you could, please check your points totals and let me know if there are any problems.
im hoping i was able to resolve all the environmental problems with the scheduler for the points run yesterday. im just confirming that everything looks good, since the cron ran on time at 4am today.
thanks,
smushywushy
*** adding this in case people don't feel like reading the comments -- i manually updated points at 9, so your points for programs should be right now. points for person guildes were fine. ***- Posted Dec 3, 2005 7:45 am PT

2Dec 05im testing some points stuff right now. it should *not* effect your points as they stand. but, on the off chance that i'm wrong about the difference between "should" and "will" (lord knows it wouldn't be the first time), you know what's up.

1Dec 05working on it, as usual. thanks everyone for the pm's.
*** I just reran manually, so check to see if you've got what you should have (from the All Contributors or Contribute links off the show summary page, as the summary page itself is cached and will probably show old points data for a little while yet).- Posted Dec 1, 2005 11:18 am PT

29Nov 05okay, so i've now been fully debriefed on the job that runs the levels, and as you are all apparently aware, it only calculates points for work you have done the previous day. which means, basically, everyone gets dingus because you were all intentionally *not* submitting due to the CP point problem.
to be perfectly honest at the moment there's no good way for me to reset things and recalculate levels such that everyone gets the level increases for the days where the CP didn't happen.
im really, really sorry everyone, i know it sucks. all i can tell you is that i'll be looking into a nice, safe way to reset the levels the same as we can with the contribution totals. realistically, though, that probably won't help anyone this time around.- Posted Nov 29, 2005 12:38 pm PT

29Nov 05... or check our contribution points, whichever. my preliminary spot-check looked pretty good, but you folks are always the best judges of what you should be getting.
as always, post here if anything's screwed up for you. i'll be checking.
once everyone agrees things look good, we will run the levels.- Posted Nov 29, 2005 11:02 am PT

14Oct 05hello everyone,
please make sure you have what you estimate to be the right points updates as well as make sure you haven't lost any of your shows to zombie editors or to folks waaay down the list (where applicable). remember that you need to check on your profile page, not the actual show page, as those pages are cached and the title editor won't show up for you right away. i did my best to verify editors and points in many, many test runs today, but with so many of you guys, it's a tactical impossibility to check every single update. things could very well have slipped through.
if you have lost anything (or gained anything you know you shouldn't have), just let me know. i will look into any errors reported on this blog first thing monday morning, so if you see anyone with a problem on the forums, kindly point them in this direction. i'm going to be setting this up to run overnight every night, so the 4:30PM updates will no longer be happening. hopefully.
have a fantastic weekend, everyone, and thank you all for your help and patience.

12Oct 05you know the drill, make sure you have what you're supposed to have, if you don't let me know here (or PM me, whichever you prefer).
we're also looking for people who got TOO MANY, by the way, although i suspect that one might be less likeley to get reported...
yes, im still working on the retired editors problem.- Posted Oct 12, 2005 5:37 pm PT
