2Jul 09Today's match at Wimbledon Elena Demtieva vs. Serena Williams was amazing. For the first time for a while, I can say I watched a women's tennis match and enjoyed it.
I've said it here before, Elena Dementieva is my favourite womens player and she has always been a great player to watch. Her weakness is her serve and for once she served well in a match.
I really wanted her to win so it wouldn't be an all Williams final (boooring) and she came so close. Those hawkeye calls were 2mms away from being in her favour.
She's the last of the players on the women's tour that doesn't rely soley on power.
As for Safina, world no. 1? Why?- Posted Jul 2, 2009 10:53 am PT

6Jun 09I am so excited about tomorrow's Men's Final. I am a huge Roger Federer fan and I am so desperate for him to win. I'm also a bit nervous because the last few matches he's had some shaky wins. Also, Soderling has been playing really well. I guess by the time many of you read this, the result will be out.
Even so, please win Roger Federer!- Posted Jun 6, 2009 4:28 pm PT

Before I write this I know no one will read it or much less care but I shall rant anyway.
The rule changes for next year are awful. I already dislike this year because of the stupid rules and to change them again for the worse is unbelievable.
To outline a few, voluntary £40m cap on spending allows more KERS, more testing etc... No refuelling.
The first one is strange considering it will in effect create two sets of teams running on two separate sets of rules. The second is the worst, the cars will be extremely slow to begin with if they are fuelled for the whole race. Teams are already struggling with KERS and have had to make a smaller fuel tank to accommodate it. How are they now going to fit KERS with a large fuel tank?
The only plus side I can see to the rule changes is that a new team can enter so hopefully Proton (Aston Martin) can enter but then there'd be 26 cars on the track and that's just too many.

It's been pretty quiet around these parts. Not many shows on this week apart from Fringe and 24:
24 - Tony a bad guy, really? Why? This series was going so well!
Fringe - Inner Child was good, not the best but certainly up there. My dad still doesn't get it.I won't be able to come on here for a while as I have some exams to deal with. I've been trying to revise for the last week or so but that consisted of roughly 3 pages of cell biology.
Oh and I got an editorship! Annoyingly though, a cast member seems to have appeared on one of my other guides without me moderating it... That could become tiresome.

I'm a big Formula One fan and I just saw qualifying today for Shanghai.
It's been a pretty bad start to a new season. Firstly McClaren cheat which is probably expected from this team now.
There is a row over diffusers with two levels with roughly half of the teams on one side of the debate and the other half on the other. Now the teams without the diffuser have to add it to have a chance of winning, but with only 40 hours a week allowed in the wind tunnel it'd be very difficult.
BMW is a team I've followed but they insist on sticking with Nick Heidfeld who is extremely slow. Kubica is too tall for KERS and today didn't perform well at all being 16th.
I don't like this new season...

I just watched The Apprentice in the UK and since the episode wasn't on the show guide, I feel I should post my opinion here where no one will read it
.Today's task was to make a cosmetic product and the two teams decided on making soap and shower gel.
The show lately has just become so infuriating to watch because the wrong team always loses and Alan Sugar keeps firing the wrong people. On top of that, all the contestants are extraordinarily over confident and all just as incompetent. Of the four fired so far, two (Rocky and Paula) were the only ones that even showed a glimmer of hope.
If you don't watch the show you will have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.
Sugar does not seem to be looking for the best here and today seemed to highlight the problem.
To explain, the losing team made a fatal error and confused two essential oils in their recipe, one vastly more expensive than the other resulting in their spent money being very high. This caused them to lose money and thus lose the task. The other team made money but were lead by a useless team leader and produced an even worse product.
The first mistake was to say that the winner is the one that makes more money because the product that was produced by the winning team was so bad that they would not have had any business after the first day whereas the losing team had a good product that sold for 3.50 instead of 33p from the winning team.
Then, he fired the wrong person. He said all through the board room that the team leader had produced a fantastic product and lead the team well. The other two people with her were Ben and Yasmina who were both charged with costing. Yasmina made the same mistake as Paula in mixing the two oils up. Ben did absolutely nothing, sitting out the task completely making him believe that this absolved him of responsibility.
This also proves that Sugar is a hypocrite as he fired someone last week stating he would not take stragglers who let others take the blame. Yet this week he did not fire the one person who deserved to go. Not getting involved makes you just as much to blame as the people who did and made a mistake.
The show has become unwatchable now and this episode was the last I will ever watch. I didn't watch last series for the same reason and each series seems to be worse than the last.

University broke up on Friday so now it's a long month of Easter holidays. I am of course using the term "holiday" loosely because it's exam term next term. That's 5 modules worth of exams, each 3 hours long!
That said, next term is only exams so it is only 12 days long and my Summer holiday starts on 11th May and I have 4 months. Not entirely sure what to do during that time but we'll see when it comes.
Usually holidays are great things but since it's now 4 months it does seem like there's not a lot to do and since everyone comes from different parts of the world, I won't see some people for a very long time.

11Mar 09As the title suggests, I will now try and force myself to post one blog a week since I missed so many weeks. Some will be awful but I'm trying to get the community back
.
It's a pretty strange day today, it was sunny but had the air of "I'm about to rain all over you silly people with your sunglasses". I'm not sure if my description gives you the right feeling but it's the best I can do for now.
Michael Jackson at O2 sold out!!! The emotion now is "hatred". It's an event one should not miss. The funny thing is, the tickets don't go on sale until Friday 13th (shock horror). That's 200 000 tickets gone before they have even started selling them, annoying preorder...
On the other hand, I am going to see 65daysofstatic so that's always good news.
My friend was ill today, poor her so hope she gets better. This is my version good will.
Ciao for now.
Here is what I've been listening to, you may as well know now that I am wierd and you probably have never heard of most of the things I have in my library.
EDIT: I just tried to add a widget from Last.fm but it had the forbidden S**** (note not four letters) word in it so I couldn't. If you want to know see here: http://www.last.fm/user/orangeyred- Posted Mar 11, 2009 10:25 am PT

3Mar 09So, I haven't written a blog in over four months and I feel I've been neglecting my tv.com friends.
I have been on the site but it's just a lot harder to use and as you all know, I haven't been the biggest fan. The new design has been improved in the last week but the site will never be what it once was. The community feel seems to have disappeared with the old design and my will to contribute is lesser.
_
Enough of the negatives, Christmas was great as usual. It's just a shame that, because it's University, everyone comes from afar and disappear off home so you never see them until the start of the next year.
Then, it snowed in January in London. It was a LOT of snow. About 15cm where I was. Everyone loves snow and I took so many photos. Being a nostalgic photography hobbyist, I shot several roles of film and filled several gigabytes on my digital camera.
I hope you've all had a great Christmas and New Year and almost been a quarter of a year so I hope you've all kept your resolutions...- Posted Mar 3, 2009 8:28 am PT

17Oct 08I'm sorry I've been a bit absent lately. I just started university and it's all a bit hectic right now.
I have a few 9am - 6pm days which are hurting me! The work isn't too hard though. Mostly stuff we covered last year... For now anyway!
I have pretty good professors so all in all it's been a fun few weeks. I've met some good friends in my class and everyone seems nice enough. Going to university in London is not as expensive as everyone thinks. It's just about the same as going to university anywhere in the UK. I have discovered that I've started noticing the word "free" a lot more now that I'm living on a budget.
The labs are SOOO nice here, so much better than the labs in school.
There are loads of societies as well, some better than others: the bongos society for instance, is one that I will be avoiding.- Posted Oct 17, 2008 2:03 pm PT

18Sep 08I actually can't use this site anymore. The main reason is it hurts me eyes.
Other reasons are that it's just so much less user friendly than the last version. It took me three goes just to type this blog (I had to turn off the WYSIWYG editor before I could even type) and forget editing posts. The new layout is crazy and less intuitive than the last one.
It's a step backwards in my opinion. I want a "Classic" option in my preferences!- Posted Sep 18, 2008 4:22 pm PT

Does anyone else think something was wrong with Nadal yesterday at the US open semi final against Murray? He was nowhere near as quick as he usually is and he was playing safe hitting straight down the middle of the court. His serving was also off.
Nadal is one of the fittest people on the tour and he looked like he was struggling yesterday. Did you see the shot of him breathing heavily at the back of the court to catch his breath? That NEVER happens to him!
Anyway, come on Federer! He looks like he's back to his best

I think the police are getting a bit too good at their jobs in my area. Yes VERY efficient.
Here's what happened yesterday night (around 11p.m.).
I was borrowing a car from a friend whilst mine is getting fixed. I got pulled over twice in one trip from work to home by police! The first question asked both times was "Do you own the car?"! I don't know how they managed it but well done to them. I had to spend 20 minutes each time whilst they checked out who owned the car, if I was insured, if I was allowed to drive it...
Can't really blame the police because they were dead right, it wasn't my car. I just wished they weren't so proactive about it.
True it's a very nice car (BMW 3 Series Convertible) and no one my age owns one so they were suspicious but my friend who does own the car is only a year older (19) so they decided to check out if she was the actual owner - which took longer.

I have to apologise for the dire performance that London put on in the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. It was terrible in almost every way. I don't like the way that the government here insists on pushing the "contemporary", "youth culture, "new age" rubbish. No one actually likes that stuff! Then there's the fact it cost 2.5m GBP to put on ($5m USD)!
Good bits:
Jimmy Page (British legend)
Red busBad bits:
Umbrellas?!
Kid walking across the people (what is that all about?)
Leona Lewis (not a British legend) with a pole stuck up her...
Dance routine
The weird hedge on top of the bus...Even David Bekham looked embarrassed. I really hope that they sort this out for the London 2012 Olympics. I would hate to be from the country that forces 8 billion people around the world to watch 3 hours of what was shown.
On another note, I am happy that Elena Dementieva won the Olympic Gold, she deserves it finally!

My pick this year to win is Elena Dementieva for the women (in my top two favourites) and Roger Federer for the men (again).
I don't want the William's to win again and I think it's about time Elena won a grand slam and this is her best chance so far this year now that the top four seeds are out. Come on Elena!!!
Roger Federer can still beat Nadal I think and I reckon that will be the final. Andy Murray needs to stop yelling at every one of his points. His attitude just isn't right.
Short blog but that's my pick this year for Wimbledon. I've got tickets to the women's final so hopefully I will see Elena there.

I know in the previous post I said I liked Dinara Safina but I changed my mind today. Today she turned from being a competitive fighter to a foul tempered, rude player. Constantly losing her temper and hitting her racket. She shouted when she lost a point in Russian (I speak Russian - I know what she said) and insisted on shouting celebration every time she won a point which were mostly from mistakes from Lena rather than her own skill.
I felt sorry for Elena Demetieva because I felt she played really well and deserved to win thoroughly. Her accuracy is always perfect and her attitude is perfect. She is one of my favourite players (just behind Ana Ivanovic) and she played much better than Safina.
She is dignified firstly - no tantrums. Played a wonderful game (I always prefer accuracy and positioning over huge power shots all the time). Accepts that she loses a point with a nice smile and carries on. True champion.
(It's also nice that she's incredibly pretty as well!)

Tennis again so look away if you don't care!
I can not believe Dinara Safina beat Maria Sharapova today and watching the match - it was amazing. It was so close in the first two sets and saving the match point in the second set was incredible. The third set she played perfect tennis.
That match was one of the most matches of the French Open this year - great to watch
Congratulations Safina!

P.S. My phone line is fine now and I take back what I said about BTs bad service. The engineer they sent today was brilliant and sorted everything out.

I'm having problems with my phone line at the moment and Internet is a bit patchy. I have a feeling that it will completely go at any minute so if I'm not here to update guides after tomorrow (2nd June 2008 ) - sorry!
(I'm on BT by the way and my line has been down for a total of 3 months over the last 2 years! If only there was a decent alternative.)
