My Friends

6Dec 12

So I have always wanted to do some youtube gaming videos after watchign sooooo many online myself. I always thought it was cool and a fun hobby to do. Recently since I have had some time off college before exams I have made a few videos, mainly consisting of Far Cry 3, and would like to keep at it. I have put up about a video a day for the last week and I would love to continue doing that but sadly time likely won't allow me to do so and I will have to cut back when exams start and christmas is over. But still I will continue uploading whenever I can.

A question I wanted to ask anyone who reads is; what would you actually like to see in a youtube gaming video? Do people like straight gameplay, montages with music and lots of frame transitions with cool highlights, commentary walkthroughs or all of the above? Or do you just hate youtube gaming videos?

Let me know what you think and check out my channel linked below. If you like what you see please like some videos and subscribe if you're feeling generous. I normally don't like promoting like this but I would like to keep doing this and the help is always appreciated .

VIdeos dedicated to your idol, your lord, your savior, your beacon of truth. But no seriously um I don't know I got bored really quick. Montages are lame, unless it's out right badass stuff, and the music while calming doesn't really I don't know do anything for the video. I'm not a fan of most letsplays/walkthroughs, but assuming you had some decent mic skills I'd rather get some entertainment while watching you play, then a video of watching you play.

@jg4xchamp Good to know, currently I do a bit of both but my commentaries are a bit dull. I also don't want to force a stupid character out of myself just for the entertainment of others. Seems a little fake and "hey look at me". Some people are enjoying the montages so I might keep doing both. All depends on who's watching I guess

@seanmcloughlin You have a picture of Egoraptor gushing over Megaman X. I'm sure with the right game, and some thought what you could put out would be sincere and entertaining. Then again Egoraptor is a funny ass dude, so ....bad example.

@jg4xchamp Yeah if only he would come back and actually make some videos again himself for his channel. But yeah I think I have to find the right game to commentate over, time will tell ;)

I prefer to watch funny or cool gameplay moments, nice editing but not over edited.

Not just straight gameplay or "let's plays", I could play the games myself if I wanted, but seeing cool things of a particular game is always interesting, think GTA Stunts :P

@SaltyMeatballs I hear ya man, I know exactly what you mean. I keep thinking about new ways to present games, the whole let's play and walkthroughs seems like a bit of an easy cop out. just make up a wacky personality and go with it and almost anyone could do it if they tried hard enough. But standing out is a bit more creative.

Although I shouldn't speak too soon, a let's play would end up on my channel and I'd look like a fool then lol

I tried making a few youtube videos myself recently, but after taking like 8 hours to upload a 20 min Dayz commentary that wasn't much good with my feeble Canadian internet I think I'll leave it at that.

Most successful youtube videos either have narration where you do commentaries or highlights where you just edit together cool stuff that happens, so you'd have to decide which type of video would be better suited to your talents. I'd just make videos on whatever you are playing currently, or if there is a multiplayer game you are good at, its always fun showing off your skills!

@with_teeth26 Yeah that was one of the huge drawbacks of doing it. Some videos had to be cut down due to the sizes. My internet also sucks so I need something under 800Mb. But a few codec changes and rendering options can bring the size down a good bit while retaining some good quality.

I will likely do a bit of both commentary and normal music over compilation videos for now and see which get on better. Then take it from there.

Thanks for the comment and advice :)

@TheGuardian03 Sure I could definitely work some other games in. And Dishonored would be no problem :) Good choice. I'll get working on some videos for that soon then so stay tuned.
