My Friends

Miss Sassy's Blog

  • 18Jan 09
A Blog? Wow... it has been many months since my last one. I actually forgot how to do the tags for my font. How very sad.

It was a tough year last year. I lost my job (nothing I did, they just can't afford me anymore) and haven't been able to get another one. Got sick and had to go through a the whole medical testing thing again and busted my back a couple of times (bulging discs, yay!).

I was hoping that this year would be better but it began with my Grandfather having a fall on New Years Day and going into hospital. He developed pneumonia and passed away at 5am last Thursday. His Funeral is tomorrow. He was 93 years old, so he did well. He was so lonely the last couple of years without my Grandmother and I pray that he is now reunited with her.

Loff and hugs to you all.

There is an old gentleman who lives in my area and owns three little dogs. He can't walk well, but has a little scooter that he drives around on, with his three little dogs running along behind him. Normally I think it's quite cute, but not after today.

Today, as I was driving to the supermarket, one of those little dogs decided that the road was the best place to be and ran out into the middle of my side of the road. I had to slam on my brakes and swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid running it over, as it stood staring at it's owner. The poor man was yelling and frantically trying to get off the scooter to get to the little brat.

It took quite some time afterward for my heart to slow down again and my hands to stop shaking. This is why my dog is never allowed off her lead.

That is what my last three blogs have been about.

All I can say is be grateful that I haven't gotten started on the mice, moths and millipedes. The MMM's. Till now that is.

That would be mice that make Sassy fall over in fright and hurt her shoulder, then tease and torment Leah till she snatches them up in her little mouth before dropping them in disgust so they can crawl into the heater and DIE leaving us to get pliers and drag their little bodies out through the vent by their dead little tails. Our house is a warzone with poison everywhere behind barriers built to keep Leah from sampling said poison.

That would also be the moths that flutter around outside desperately trying to find the light, all the while battering their little moth bodies in vain against the windows and then when Sassy dares to take the dog outside they chase her up the ramp to the back door where she slams the door in their little moth faces while trying to work out how best to let the dog in without the moths coming in with her.

And lastly the millipedes that have decided to turn the house into their own little version of an elephant graveyard. They aren't scary, or harmful... they just like to come inside our house to DIE. Yay us.

Thus concludes the series of blogs dedicated to the wonderful inhabitants of Sassy's house. Till something new shows up that is. Much loff to you all!

I just stepped on a slug. With no shoes on. Or socks. Just my nekkid foot. And a slug. Meeting in the dark on a cold winters night. *shudders*

Ah well, I scrubbed them both up nice and clean (even the one without the slime on it). Now my feet smell like lemon myrtle. All's well that ends well I guess.

I am of course rather sad that my first blog in almost three months was about a dead slug.

There are live snakes in my garden!

Okay, okay, there was only one and it was a baby, but the fact that it looked very much like a black snake (which is a deadly one) and the fact that my dog Leah was the one that found it scares the bejeezus out of me.

I think I preferred the dead one that we found in the backyard a few months back. Sure, Leah rolled in it, but at least it couldn't bite her!

My skin has yet to stop crawling... I am gonna have nightmares tonight!

I found out something interesting today and thought that I would share it with you all.

"A dog does not like to eat food that is swarming with ants".

    Who knew?

So much for her bowl being an "Ant Free" bowl. What a waste of money that was.

Hope that you all find that little tidbit useful. Nighty night!

I can't believe that it has been a whole year since Drea left us.

I miss you girl and think of you often. Hope that you're showing them all how to roll wherever you are now. Loff ya always!

Today is the nine year anniversary of the day I picked Leah up from the pound. A horrid looking little thing she was. Nothing but skin and bones, mange on her head, fly bites on her ears and no skin on her snout from sticking it through the bars. I will never forget the look of horror on my mother's face when I bought home something that looked more like a deformed rat than a dog . It took a little while, but she gained weight and healed and turned into quite the pretty little lass.

Her little puppy dog eyes just melted my heart and she has had me wrapped around her little paw ever since. T'was a good choice, though I'm the first to admit it hasn't always seemed that way. Nine years of love and laughter from a little angel in disguise.

"No photos today Mummy. I'm shweepy".

And just to clarify about the photos in my previous blog, I did not actually put the cover over her. She's an expert at burrowing under blankets and making little cocoons for herself. When she gets too hot she sticks her head out and sleeps like a human. It's just adorable.

... is to find somewhere comfortable and sleep, sleep, sleep.

    Yup. Nothing like it.

    Leah has kennel cough (tracheobronchitis).

She shouldn't have it. She's been vaccinated against it every year since I got her in 1999. And yet she does.

She was so healthy until about 18 months ago. Then her health just went nuts. *sigh* Sometimes I think this dog just does it for the attention (like she doesn't get enough ). That or to make me cry.

I just overheard my Mother telling my Nanna that we haven't heard the results of my father's autopsy yet.

Seeing as my father is still very much alive and kicking (unless that is someone else playing card games on his computer), I have a strong suspicion she may have meant the results of his BIOPSY. He had a biopsy done on his hand last week.

The really funny part was that neither my Mother nor my Nanna picked up on the mistake.

I just got to see the report done about me as part of my disability assessment.

The first line of it reads: [real name] appears to be very friendly.

For some reason that cracked me up big time. Appears to be friendly.

Appearances can be deceiving you know. I hope they don't discover the herd of flesh eating cows in the attic, the baby frogs with fangs under my bed or my rusty pitchfork collection. Or else they might think twice about how I appear.

After all it's the nice ones you gotta watch out for. Still waters and all that...

In case you couldn't tell the only reason I am posting this is out of sheer boredom. That and the fact that I am tired of looking at the sidewalk ends sign. Chow!

I wonder how many people actually crashed into that fence before they put the sign up...

...but they make our lives whole ~ Roger Caras

It is one year today since my dachshund Max was put to sleep.

The pawprints he wore into the windowsill are still there. We planted Max Graf roses on his grave and they are flourishing. It warms my heart to see them.

I still miss the little devil terribly and think of him everyday. RIP darling boy.

    Happy New Year!!

Last year we totally forgot that it was New Years, due to the nursing of a sick dog (RIP Max).

This year New Years was also far from my mind, which probably had something to do with the fact that my brain had melted out my ears. My Best Friend and I went to see a movie, not to celebrate New Years, but to escape the 41 degree heat. Blergh. Hate the heat. It shouldn't be allowed. Disgraceful. Hurrumph.

Anyways, Happy New Year from Brainless Sassy! Have fun this New Years and be safe.

Mama noticed that everytime my Nana left the room I lowered the volume of the TV slightly so I didn't have to listen to the cricket commentary.

Now it is louder than ever.

Nana goes home tomorrow and much as I love her I can't say I'm sorry to see her go. According to her Leah wags her tail too much.

Hope everyone had a loverly and safe Festive Season.

My Nana has been here less than two hours and has already had three goes at me about my dog. "She's too fat, stop feeding her, you spoil her too much".

Given the fact that Leah weighs a grand total of 5.1 kilograms (which is 400 grams less than what she was earlier in the year) I am not in anyway going to stop feeding her. I also think that the fact she lost her companion, developed severe arthritis and was on antibiotics for months to treat a massive infection during the last year entitles her to be spoiled just a little.

My Nana just adores finding fault with me and this Christmas the way I look after my dog seems to be this years choice. I can just tell that the next three days are going to be a laugh riot.

Ho, ho, ho and a bah humbug to all!

There is nothing that makes me feel safer in my home than my father turning on the gas stove, leaving the room without lighting the burner, thereby causing the room to fill with gas.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was the first time he'd done it. But it wasn't.

My delightful little darling of a dog found a dead bird in the backyard today. Naturally she rolled in it with much enthusiasm.

Naturally my response was to bath her. It has become something of a weekly ritual for us. Leah rolls in something foul, I bath her.

Her bath last week was to get rid of the dead snake smell.

The week before it was to get rid of the dead fish smell.

I shudder to think what next week's smell will be. I never had this problem with my dachshund Max. He never rolled in dead things. He ate them with gusto, but never rolled in them.

I took these pics after todays bath. She's rolling in her bed to try and get her doggy smell back.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

T'was a big day today vaccinating and drenching all the calves, yearlings and heifers on the farm. All the calves were weighed to see if they were big enough to be weaned. Only eight of them were big enough.

Among those eight was my favourite little battler, Smiler. She and the other seven were put into the paddock next to the one where the calves were.

Not long after that the lucky ones who could still have milk were fed, while the unlucky ones could only stand along the fenceline and watch... and complain. Smiler was not with them. "She's probably invaded the duck house", said my boss, which was a definite possibility.

However a couple of hours later, when it was knock off time, there was still no sign of Smiler. The other seven were still bellowing for their milk, but no Smiler. T'was a little worrying.

It wasn't until I was leaving that I finally discovered where the little ratbag had got to... she was cuddled up next to the little calves, with a belly full of milk and a very contented look on her face. If only I'd had my camera with me.

It seems that no fence, nor set of scales, can keep the her from her milk. With that attitude, it is hardly surprising that she survived what she went through. I'm so proud of her.

Especially since I'm not the one who has the task of getting her back into the paddock she's supposed to be in.
