31Dec 07
So another 12 months have gone by and Ive found I'm left asking myself what Ive achieved this year.
Well on one front a few weeks back now my long campaign to complete saints row finally finished (at least it felt long with the amount of time I had to put into video games depleting this year). I got 720G out of it (above what most most people get I assure you as getting that racketlord achievement worth 160G can be both time consuming to a point but mostly frustrating) and one of them was a mulitplayer achievement but I by no means went out of my way to get it (I had enough money from matches to buy the amount of clothes required for the achievement so I did it) and I'm going to leave it at that. When I got back to doing the main single player missions I had alot more fun then I had with the activities or multiplayer and as the achievements left are nearly all multiplayer achievements, frustrating and once again time consuming I though it was time to leave it.
Also I broke the 3000G mark and since I broke the 2000G mark this year as well were not doing to bad
I'll make an aim of 5000-6000G for next year
I know guys its just a number, I don't make a big deal out of the number. Single achievements and the general level you complete your games at impress me but there are a few exceptions. Like if you completed dead rising 1000G and all Im impressed because the time limit in that game can make it particulay frustrating from what Ive seen and there by it has some of the most awkward achievements I've seen. Also a high amount of achievements out of Final fantasy XI is extremely impressive, that game has by far the most impressive achievements I've ever seen just on the basis of the time and effort it takes to get them (it would take years to 1000G it) overall it even beats that inzain achievement out of graw (you had to be number on the worldwide universal leaderboards so probably 3 or 5 people have that at best). So it just goes to show its not the number but the achievements behind the number we should be looking at
Also I finally rounded up super mario galaxy, I got 99% of the stars with little trouble it was just a matter of finishing after I had got bored the first time round. Despite it getting game of the year here and many raving about what a great game it is hear me out when I say: If you view your self as decently experienced in the platformer genre this one may not be for you. I found it was fun for a while but when you just keep clearing through the game like a hot knife through butter the majority of the time I found my self evidently getting bored from the lack of challenge. But for the new or inexperienced player (which is primarily nintendo's new audience after all) there is much fun to be had. There is no denying the games general visuals and atmospheric music comes together quite nicely and the innovative gravity system (which is surprisingly well done, with very good controls especially for a wii game) certainly makes the puzzles more interesting and enjoyable (though once again this wont be fully enjoyed by more experienced players due to their general lack of challenge).
*SPOILER* Also I don't plan to go through it again with luigi not only would that be mind numbingly boring but it was just a easy way to extend the game (perhaps if there was a hard mode I would have done it but essentially luigi's different movements wont make the game much harder then it is) *END SPOILER*
Well now Ive found myself back playing perfect dark zero which I don't plan on doing so much longer (I should get gears of war soon if all goes well and call of duty 4 after Ive sorted out that HDTV I was going on about before) and its funnily enough an achievement I got on that recently which has become my proudest gaming achievement this year. I completed the game on solo secret agent
that may not sound like much but I'm generally not that good at fps's and I ended up using skills I didn't even know I had
I even got a considerably high place on the leaderboards (for the difficulty I was doing it on as your score gets multiplied depending on what difficulty your doing it on) for one particularly hard level (it was the jungle one) I was like 3367 or something in the 3300 area.Oh and I'll just add one more gaming achievement this year: Warioland 1 and 2 completed 100% and no faq used at any point oh and I also got a time of about 5minutes 2seconds on the final level on warioland 2 which I was pretty proud of (Just some proof of my own platforming skills there to justify the stuff I said about SMG) I did that while I was on holiday in lesvos if anyone can remember that blog

Also I finally finished this anime I watching: Welcome to the nhk and its certainly one of the better animes that Ive watched. Its about a hikikomori (someone who doesn't go outside unless they have to) neet (someone who isn't employed or in further education) who is kinda paranoid and soon becomes convinced all the pain in his life is caused by a company called the nhk who are conspiring against him (well thats the main theme anyway). Your gonna be in for a bumpy ride, never expect the characters to do what you would expect them to do or what you would want them too do half the time (though that can be the fun part) its about 24 episodes long and I would definetly reccomend it especially to someone who has recently gone through a series of dry or typical animes. The best thing to do is watch the few episodes and if you do find it funny/entertaining or you can relate to the main character the chances are you'll enjoy the rest of it. Well can anyone reccomend me an anime?
So on a more personal basis Ive cleaned up my act a fair this year. Before I was on the edge on some subjects by now I'm clawing my way back to where I should be and things are looking a bit brighter for next year because now I know how to organise my work load (that might be my new years resolution
). I think it may have something to do with my direction being a bit clearer. At the beginning of this year I was still split between wheather to pursue a career in computing or psychology and somewhere along the line after some deep contemplation I decided what I wanted to do, ambitouse as it is. I aim to become a psychiatrist with a specialism in media psychology (focusing in video games
) and on top of all that I want to move to Japan so yeah, I don't know if you think thats ambitious or just so unlikely its stupid but we'll see hey. Its the work I put into my future that will decide it for the most part I guess. I might go in to my reasoning of why thats what I want to do and why I want to move to Japan in another blog because I think this blog is long enough. On a lighter note to finish up on I decided on that HDTV, its likely going to be a plasma 42" samsung. I decided despite the screen burning I can just turn the tv off when I pause a game and walk out of the room, it seems a mild inconvenience when it has 15,000 to 1 contrast and your average LCD of the same price has 8000 to 1 contrast. I'd also like to thank redhawk for helping me decide on what tv to get, I was a little lost atone point but he pushed me in the right direction so thanks man.
Oh and sorry I didn't do a christmas blog
there just wasn't that much worth mentioningWell if you've read all that well done
and I wish you all a happy and healthy game filled new year

Microsoft securing exclusive gtaIV content $50million, edios pulling advertising campaign from gamespot $100,000, seeing every aware gamer unite against CNET and gamespot priceless.
Ive never seen such a outcry from a group of gamers since manhunt 2 got band. We've got your back Jeff and just look how you've brought out the best in people. After the unjustified firing off Jeff gerstman gamespots senior editor its a sad day to be a games reviewer but due to the outcry from the community its a proud day to be a gamer. We united and took a stand for jeff and if you are'nt in the know check out subrosians blog as for the rest Viva la Jeff!

So as you may of guessed from the blog title I got super mario galaxy (thats one game of my wish list
). It basically goes: Mario is lured to a small shadow by some stray pasta on a hook, the hook then gets reeled up into the clouds by a lakitu and mario sheepishly grabs on to it. Not noticing he's a mile high mario takes the pasta of the hook and just as he's about to eat it the lakitu shakes the hook to get his attention, getting aggravated due to mario ignoring his evil geniouse speech he's been saying for the last few minutes which he mentions he stayed up all night coming up with. The shake knocks the pasta out of marios hand and like the bright spark he is he lets go of the line to chase after the air born pasta. Were then treated to a nice over view shot of where you really can see what marios made off. Then as you would expect "Ha Ha you payed money for this" comes up on the screen and thats the game.
Just kidding
so far its been good and if it was a little more challenging Id say awesome but I guess Ive only just cleared the first galaxy so we'll see whats to come hey
, I'll keep you posted on how that goes and I'll be nice and vague so dont worry I wont spoil anything
. Oh yeah believe it or not I am actually still playing saints row, I have'nt been able to game much lately so with my limited time I really hesitated on buying SMG but I caved so when I clear that Ill try and once and for all suck the last of the single player g out of saints row, after playing the multiplayer I can tell you that no amount of g is worth that torture. The onlines terrible and the getting online achievements are pretty hard because of how hard it is to get a good match. For example the pipe bomb glitch makes the protect tha pimp mode practically unplayable in 2 out of 3 levels when its used. People chuck infinite amounts of pipe bombs up the only stair case and your practically screwed unless the flow is to stop for any reason and even when you get down there unless your with a good team you'll be by your self and will be raped by the whole of the other team waitng for you at the bottom of the staircase. Ive heard the only way to get past the many issues in the multiplayer is to be in a good gang and play with them so if I ever change my mind about the multiplayer achievements (which I dont think I will) I guess thats what I'll have to do. The glitches ah so widly used its pretty bad of the developer to not have patched this up by now. Also has anyone ever actualy got banned for being reported for glitching or anything? Some how I doubt it, unless it was an extreme case.Anyways yeah thats pretty much it, Im gonna go play the unreal tournament 3 demo now, it looks like goldeneye (N64) on my nvidia 7800 LE graphics card
(I gotta upgrade sometime) and yet it still manages to be one of the funnest and best shooters hell, best game Ive played in along time. My handle is ShadomRain (but to the untrained eye it looks like Shadow so that worked
) if anyone wants to add me oh and on that note if anyone wants to add me to their wii friends list pm me your friend code, and I'll add you and PM you mine back. Though when I get a HDTV in my room at the begining of next year I'll be on xbox live alot more, Ill let you know how that turns out. I may look into getting a PS3, I played ridge racer 7 on a PS3 running on a HDTV in pc world and it just looked beautiful and it played really good to which is strange since I did'nt like ridge racer the last time I played it but I guess tastes change. Then I played halo 3 running on a hdtv and the loading screen with the halo forming, so beautiful it once again sold it I never actualy played it due to time running thin but Im confident of its game play. I did'nt want to be a shallow gamer but if a game is good looking normally (e.g. the halo forming) and it plays great theres something about seeing that in hd that just blows me away. I mean if it had been killzone 2 Im sure the gameplay would have got me but certainly not the visuals running in hd or not. Anyways Im really gonna go play the UT3 demo this time
so bye. - Posted Nov 17, 2007 12:30 pm PT

23Oct 07So yeah I went to video games live the other day, it was everything I had hoped it would be (Well apart from there not being a demo of mass effect *like that was gonna happen
* there and not getting to challenge anyone to a game of mariokart, if anyone ever feels like a game especially on rainbow road feel free to pm me, just no snaking
). At the end I got my DS signed by one of the composers for such games as: Jet set radio, Jet set radio future (My favourite game of all time if you did'nt already know
ive still yet to play jsr so dont bite my head off I know alot of people say the originals better
) and mass effect , richard jaques. I also got my ticket signed by him and the composer for vgl, I think I might give that away. Oh and MY GAMERSCORE HAS FINALLY BROKEN 2000! its been along time coming but Ive finally done it. I hope it does'nt go up that slow next year as well
. So yeah thats about it, things shaping out to be a great week and I hope they are for you too

Added a few games I could'nt before (found some technique's to get to games that you dont think gamespot have and that dont come up when you search for them etc. and I found that if you search game & watch (and a few other variants) it comes up with over 44,000 games in the search and the only search variant that works to get to them is game and watch that I know of. I also got a new game today. I won a bid on warioland 2 (the later editioned gbc version) and it was in great condition (Its one of my favourite game series so yeah I cared about the condition, I really did'nt want to have to go cartridge only) no faded colour in the manual and box withalmost no noticabledamage to themeither plus it had that thing the boxs have in them to hold the cartridge and one of those plastic catridge protectors it was £4 plus p+p £6 so given the condition I think I got a really good deal
(and someguy got pwned when he put a last second bid in *literally must of been last second because I kept refreshing to check in the last 5mins*and my max bid was the same as his bid and it counts mine as the earlier bid because its auto so XD unlucky) so yeah its on my now playing list but im actualy saving it till I go on holiday on thursday for 2 weeks.Im going to a greek island (I went there last year) called lesvos (it is what it sounds like, in greek or latin that does translate to there word back then for lesbian apparently there are some lesbians that go there on some kind of spiritual journey
). also im waiting for another game to arrive (also from ebay
well it would have been tough to find them in good condition anywhere else) which was also another warioland game the first game in the series confusingly titled unless you know your stuff super marioland 3: warioland which should hopefully turn up in the post tomorrow. I loved warioland 3 and its a game you can actualy enjoy getting 100% (I only used a faq once swear it was justfor 1 of the later chests, I would have never figured it out because I had gone through everything I could think of *I really should have figured it out at one point but I was veryunlucky when I look back on how close I was* and moved on and did'nt play it for like a year but then one day I picked it up again remembered that I got stuck tryed a little more and then decided its only gonna gather dust again if I dont and looked at the faq, then cleared rite through it and then got all the music coins ahh great game) yup thats what it takes for me to look at a faq so yeah not very likely to happen unless im looking for those things no one would ever figure out or things you may only get one chance to get.Well after getting a healthy dose of pre-warioland 3 warioland games when im done with those games I may get warioland 4 (ive played a bit so know I like it not as good as 3 though) and maybe wario: master of disguise despite my severe doubt from reviews and it not being made by the original warioland team. Yeah lately Ive been getting the urge to look into my backlog of games I wanted (next up the game boy gallery series
) but the new games will be coming out soon so I'll save that till the dry period. Oh yeah and I've also updated my description for my tracked games, collection, wish list and now playing not that I think anyone reads those things but I should of added that way earlier
. Well I may edit this when that other game arrives but this blog is already way longer than I intended it to be lol when I start rambling this kinda blog happens. Ah dam no ones gonna read or comment on this its way too long (and no one has read or coment on my blog when they got this long well I have more gs friends since that last long blog so maybe...) but if not dam
. Edit: I recieved the other game (super marioland 3: warioland) though the seller never did reply to my emails (thats one reason why just private sellers without ebay shops are better there often more reliable to reply to your questions and it works on more of a personal level). I have'nt tryed either games yet because of being busy getting sorted for going to lesbian island
but I did spare some time to play a bit of the bioshock demo and there are no words for how awesome it is, I cant wait for the full game
. Well see you all in two weeks. I'll have a blog about what I thought of the games and anything else of interest when Im back so try and not miss me to much

I cant believe it I just did a little parking job at my school and Im getting £10 for it (£10 for 1 and a half hour's work
) and now Ive just found out my 42 all time classics cartridge some how broke and yes I mean broke there's a big crack rite through the center *sigh* and it definetly does'nt work. I actualy would like to replace it but for starters as its still retailing at £20 at most places it means im going £10 up and £20 down so I end up loosing £10. The other reason is I already have alot of ds games I need to replace which got lost at an airport (I think Ive mentioned that in a previouse blog). Why do my handheld's hate me
. I mean I play them all the time and I take good care of them so why do they do this to me
. But seriousley Its just taking the piss now.Anyways on to the title topic. On July 2nd its my birthday. The period up to my birthday is always a bit of a crappy one. Somewhere along the line I started getting depressed when it got close to my birthday (but im not thinking about it so much this year so not too bad). I mean its weird when I was little I would get so excited I would be unable to sleep and I would actualy get properly ill from being over excited (I actualy had to stay home from school many a times). When it comes to the more material side of my birthday well I usually get some money from distant relatives (which of any I get this year is actualy going towards another persons present XD) and if im pacific one main present from my parents (After that bird watching kit I sure would'nt trust them to decide... I know I know its the thought that counts but even so what part of bird watching did they THINK I would enjoy) and about 2 or 3 random presents from other people. This year that big present was suppose to be a TV finally after all the waiting I would be able to play on my console's in my room. But they changed there minds again. My dad was ok with it but my mum decided that I should'nt have one yet and decided just maybe, possibly after september If she was happy with my school work they would let me have one in my room. I did'nt mind if they did'nt get me the tv I would have saved up and got 1 but to not even give me the permission to get one with my own money and to delay it again just seems so aggravating.
That may seem just like some whiny teenager going on a rant. But please bear in mind that there probably is a constructive reason why Im depressed around my birthday but I just dont know whybut thats not some attempt at being an emo attention whore I just needed to get that of my back. Also bear in mind that Ive been asking for a TV in my room for years now and they said this would be the year.

Yeah I know I have'nt posted up a blog post in ages but there was'nt much to talk about for a while so this is gonna end up a bit like a summary of the notable stuff. Well Ive decided to clear out my unions and only leave a few. Ive joined way to many unions just because an invite was sent even if i was'nt intrested but the constant union news letters are starting to get annoying. And also theres something ive been wanting to say for a while now to a few union leaders and officers perticular (you know who you are) If it was a good union you would'nt have to beg to get people to join and then post if you try your hardest and then still no one (or barely anyone) is intrested then the chances are your not just unlucky. Your union does'nt have the potential to be a good union because it was'nt a good idea for a union in the first place, ok some of them not bad ideas just been done by too many people before. There are to many to count dead unions in gamespot because people did'nt think about what there union should be about or if they could manage it or even if other people were intrested or not before they created it though there are some good unions that just ran there course. Anyways after that little rant lets move on the games. Yeah so since last time Ive gotten archer macleans mercury and perfect dark zero.
Mercury is a fun and a intresting game and later on a fairly challenging game unfortunately there just was'nt enough there to keep me intrested for too long but still a very good game considering it was only £8
. PDZ Ive only had for a couple of days so far but what Ive played I have really enjoyed. I heard alot of complaints about this game mainly about the main game which I have'nt gone in to too much yet so ill give my opionion on that some other time but the multiplayers really fun (ive mainly been trying to get the multiplayer achievements) and i did find alot of people that disliked PDZ did'nt play the much of the multiplayer, ok so maybe the game does'nt match up to some of the shooters out now but to just call it all round crap is **** Plus I guess you've got to bear in mind that it was 1 of the first shooters on the 360. I got £15 anyways so even if i really dont like the single player id still say that £15 was worth the fun of the multiplayer. Also ive started playing for some unknown reason ac:ww so if anyones mants to pm me there Friend code or leave it in a comment my details are: Name: paul Town: starling FC: 3479-8964-0757
Also though I dobt anyone notice this the reason I have'nt been very active lately http://www.noobtoob.com/. Its a small but cool community where we all talk about games and there weekly podcast just watch/listen to 1 and if you dont like it fair enough but i know you will so PLEASE just give it a shot and if you like it have at look at the forums where you'll really get noticed if your active and we also have a pretty busy little irc chatroom (unlike gamespots own irc which never got used). Also ironically noobs are nearly non existent and the ones that are there just serve as entertainment. Barely any spamming. Also I do realise the irony of me having a go at the union leaders for going on about there unions and now me advertising this site. Anyways its still pretty unheard of so its having its golden moment without the need for a system wars board (disscusions rather than arguments) so if you guys pass up the oppurtunity your loss.
Well till my next blog post and the chances are since my last blog post was written ages ago my next blog post wont be for a while either (because there is'nt anything big happening for a while).
oh yeah I almost forgot
HAPPY HALO 3
BETA!!!!with free game crackdown
overly hyped probably

Its a little known fact that I loved the warioland series and the way everyone has been talking about wario master of disguise its like there never was one. No one can seem to remember past the warioware series and remember that wario did platformers before microgames. Is it the success of the warioware series or the fact that wario hasn't done a platformer in many years that made everyone forget probably both. Maybe its just me and no one has forgotten but thats just the way it feels from the impressions ive heard about master of diguise.
The actual reviews of wario master of disguise were pretty negative. When I first heard there was going to be a new wario platformer I wanted to get my hands on it right away and since there was no european release date mentioned and the ds does'nt have region coding I was going to import it from America. Ive never bothered to import before so this was unusual for me to want a game this much. The next day redhawk360 tells me its not being made by the original team. Then bad reviews saying how repetitive it is all my hopes for good future wario platformers died. If anyone has played or owns this game and likes it please say so because I fear one of my favourite gaming frachises is screwed.

9Mar 07My 360 controller ran in to a bit of trouble the other day. Its time I change its batterys so I take the battery pack out put the new ones in. Controller does'nt connect I have a look and its not staying in place, when I had this problem before I just pushed it a little and it was fine but it still goes back so I did what I saw a friend do to fix this problem I got some gafa tape to keep it in place that still does not work. I attempt to take the battery back out once more to try and find the source of the problem and it breaks in to all its parts. Does anyone know how the reasemble them I kept each part or can I just replace the battery pack without buying a new controller. If I cant fix it ill just get a wired controller for now.

I should have a new computer by now but all im hearing is "were receiving some new stock tomorrow" I call up it hasn't come in and they say the same thing again. If you had my current computer you would understand why I cant wait another day. To sum it up its so old it has no ethernet ports which is starting to make things very difficult. I can actualy live with how slow it is as ive become a bit more patient thanks to this computer. It seems that anything Im looking for lately is out of stock any game mentioned in the post below game or gamestation or just about anyone didn't have them though I realised later that tales of the abyss was never released in europe. Next time im checking amazon first at least then ive got a much better chance at finding the game I want.

I came online to my suprise today that though I had just got up to level 6 yesterday I manage to make it to level 7 in a day. I guess I had done a bit more than usual yesterday. Anyway I was thinking of getting a new game over the weekend im thinking either a final fantasy game (probaly final fantasy X) half-life or a game from the ssx series. So any suggestions.

My first console was a PS1 though i actually asked for a N64 my parents could'nt find one so I was just happy I had finnaly got a console at the time after just watching my friends play with some brief goes on them. Anyway the point of that was I just added the last of my games to my collection here on gamespot. The last games to be added were PS1 and PS2 games I have a really small PS2 collection and a suprising large PS1 collection (but I remember that was mainly due to begging my mum for a new game at every chance and now I look back at some of the crap I begged for but the really bad games were mostly gifts) I cant believe I had more PS1 games than other I thought it could be gbc or gba but I guess when I seperate my gb,gbc and gba collection on there own it does'nt add up to all that much. I also noticed when I was looking for certain games they did'nt come up no matter what. So according to gamespot the following game's do not exist disney's tarzan (ps1) theme park world (ps1) and the original game boy gallery but I can guess what happened with that game. I did have some problem when it came to older games with the european game name and the american one but I got past that alrite though that could be the reason I could'nt find the above games but im not sure. Well I added every game I own that I could and hopefully will be adding some new games soon.

Im not sure why I picked that name I was'nt being cocky or anything far from. Im not really proud of many of my own achievements more other people's. The only reason Im using it now is because I use to use it on a different forum and just did'nt put the effort in to think of a better name, I really wish I had now.
