After finishing Dead Space, one would think I'd had enough of scary-type games, but much like the TV show, the game isn't scary, so much as putting you in psychological situations that are troubling on their own based on the circumstances. The game follows the exploits of a man convicted of killing a senator. The car he is being escorted in is attacked and he wakes up to the tragedy that we are all too familiar with in the Walking Dead series. The world has changed and Lee Everett is confronted with difficult decisions, the first being to kill the cop who has come alive after being dead.

The controls are a little wonky, at times I'm not sure what I'm supposed to press. After playing Heavy Rain, the game prepares you for something that you wouldn't quite consider game play. The game is basically made up of cut scenes and instances where you are free to explore the environment. At times it isn't always obvious what needs to be done, but if you keep your eyes peeled, new options will become apparent.

So far, the game isn't impressing me as much as I expected it to based on the hype. The scenes aren't always synced up, the lips of the characters not moving when they are clearly speaking and little things like that. It is nice to see some of the series regulars featured, but ultimately, I fear for everyones safety in the game, as in the show, everyone is likely to die.

Considering my current obsession with zombies and the WD, I've been considering the game. I may now be swayed :)

@tprezzy12 consider no more, pick it up!  though, it is not an 'action' game as you'd expected - story-driven game, well worth playing!

I just downloaded the first episode for free on XBL, haven't tried it out yet though

Ooo I picked that up in the sale the other day on Xbox Live, I have yet to start it though.  I have heard nothing but good things about it, so when I do get around to it, I am looking forward to it.  I "accidentally" started Far Cry 3 yesterday so that may be a while.

My impressions of Walking Dead?  Gruurgl... I'll give it a rest.

And hey, how 'bout those Giants going out in style yesterday?  42?  That's quite a statement.

Yes, I'm being a smart ass.

@BravoOneActual yeesh...I know, we closed out a whole lot of nothing...how we lost to the Eagles and Cowgirls earlier this year astounds me...

@Allicrombie let me know what you think when you do - it is true, the first ep took me 2+ hours, so you might want to budget your time for it so you don't have to leave halfway or something.

The game is known to have bugs, though I've been lucky enough so far. Who did you save so far?

Regarding controls, keep in mind you only have to press Q or E for the QTE events. Not sure what those buttons are on consoles though :\ The rest is just point and click.

I recently replayed the first episode after finishing the whole series and I'm completely blown away by how quickly it manages to establish a strong emotional connection between the player and the protagonists. Pretty much as soon as we meet every sympathetic character (especially Clementine) we want to ensure their safety. I've been trying to figure out exactly how it is The Walking Dead is able to do this so well; the writing's certainly good, but not astoundingly so, and the character designs, while distinctive, still aren't really outstanding either. I think the scenario the game sets up simply draws on some innate protective instincts in its players. And it does so quite well, and most surprisingly, without being overly manipulative.

@WTA2k5 I think part of it, for me, is the circumstances - and if you're familiar with the show, then it resonates that much more - you want to be the 'good' character, not the Shane, but the Rick, you know?

Nice article.  I think the writing is the most impressive aspect.  Granted, the controls take some getting used to, this is one of the better looking console adventure-games.

@Bad_Gamers83 I might change my opinion after getting through the next ep, but we shall see ;)
