Some of you may have read that after the latest redesign, I finally decided to take my volunteering elsewhere.
I really tried using the guides and submitting but it was getting very frustrating to have to jump from one section to another, seeing useless info like rating of stars on the cast pages etc. Having to jump to the notes section to make sure that the editor doesn't put a note about a non appearing main cast. Since not every editor follow the same rule : some add all cast whether they appear or not, some only add those that do appear, it's too much of a hassle. I also never really like the new interface. Having to click on add after every addition is inconvenient.
Jaxie said we were heard loud and clear. Okay, that's cool but that doesn't mean anything. It doesn't even mean they will bring back all the info they took away. It just means they heard the complaints, that's all.
So, I moved to tvrage.com, and I'm submitting there. Of course, there are things that i miss: I cannot add crew stuff at the episode level and that really sucks. I'd really want to do that but the rest is much better : all the bugs we've been complaining about here (teleplay, story not showing on the episode overwiew, special guest stars not showing) all that is working fine there. Submissions are approved within a few hours of submitting (for editorless shows).
And when you report something, it is taken care of, pretty fast.

So if you want info on shows like greek, murdoch mysteries, life, bones, lie to me, harper's island and a few others, I'm submitting for them over there.
Mind you, if tv.com gets back all the info (minus the bug) I want and make the interface a little more user friendly, i'll probably come back here, i'll just share time between both sites

Urban Fantasy Land is conducting a poll about the past year novels and writers. If you vote and then point back to their blog on your own blog you could win a $25 gift certificate on Amazon.

I actually didn't point here so i'm not entering the lottery but you guys might want to. If nothing else, you can vote for your favorite authors and novels.

    Here you Here you go.

I saw like a lot of you they did some fixes. Apparently only Jekyll and I still try to make them put back teleplay, story on the episode summary page. And they still don't get why so many editors left and why it is not even fun for people to get to a guide anymore. Talk about counter-intuitive. I know Jaxie is not responsible, but what's the use of congratulating her while she talks about stuff that were not broken in the first place. It took them 6 months to re-add a comma and a space on the writers and directors line on episode summary pages. Can you imagine that ? And still they manage to launch a new homepage in the mean time...

    So,

As soon as I heard that the dvd was hitting amazon's shelves, i decided to buy it.
And ten days later, lo and behold, I had received my package with something extra for my dad who has been wanting the Howdy doody box set since it came out back in november.
So two happy campers for new year's !

So, instead of watching the episode again, since I had watched it like a zillion times before, I went for the extras.
Well, the commentary, the Musical ! is excellent. It's nearly better than the original episode.
The other normal commentary is pretty funny and the making of are also interesting.

So if you're wondering if you should buy it, don't wonder anymore. Buy it

I'm sure a lot of people are hating it.

Funny thing is I don't hate it. I don't like it either though. It's bland. It's got no persona. The old layout created by this great group of people like freaksngeeks had gusto.
This is just bleh. There's nothing interesting about it, nothing you can say Wow nice and you'll remember it for a long time.

It's unoriginal, it has no oomph. It's just a little white and that's it.

If that's the way the CBS brass wants the site, fine, but honestly, i don't think the internet needs more unoriginal websites. There's plenty of that already. And frankly, you don't need to announce a new lay out when it is so unoriginal, unimaginative. Just launch it, and be discreet about it. Because, honest, who could be proud of this.

On the other hand, when are the bug people going to add a space and a comma on episodes pages for writers and directors. The new layout was launch in August and apparently they can't repair that small bug.

I suffered through the two hour pilot episode of Beverly Hills 90210 remake. Only thing I liked about it was the song from Cold Play, that should tell you something

On the other hand, I was truly taken by, smitten with, got a crush on "privileged". From the beginning. Just look at the prologue and tell me if you don't start laughing your behind off with that specific scene (not spoiling just in case you'll check it out).

The critics were as surprised as the few people who actually tuned in. It's light, it's funny and so much more realistic than 90210. Not to mention, the actors can act. I know not being able to act is not such a problem these days, look at Secret life of An American Teenager (I still weep for Molly Ringwald, I mean come on from Pretty in Pink to the worst TV ever, that's just unsanitary ).

So while the CW still has not giving Privileged a full season pick up, it has ordered a few more scripts. And Apparently, the ratings are improving while 90210's are dropping. (Anyone surprised?). Cause people like me and the critics are shouting watch this show, it's good. And It is.
It's actually pretty much my new favorite. And considering Greek will go on hiatus next week, I need a good teen show. Plus Joanne Garcia is hilarious

So, guys, when the winter break kicks in and if you find yourself without a show, I would advise to try Privileged out. Or you could try check it out tonight, it's on with a new episode.

Oh and the first title was more accurate : it was "surviving the filthy rich" as the main character needs to survive her filthy rich pupils

Have you guys seen some of the PSAs that are around the net trying to push young adults to vote. Most are in favor of Obama but they're clever and that's all that is important.

The one I really like stars Penn Badgley and Blake Lively from Gossip Girl, doing a spoof from their GG characters.

Also, the new Eminem song that just popped out on the interweb is very cool. I cannot wait for the album now.

As for TV, my favorite new shows are the mentalist. Simon Baker being a House Light like is pretty good. I think they need to make him even meaner than he is and it'll be perfect. Not sure if CBS will have the guts to go all the way though. The other one is Privileged. LEt me tell you. It got me at the taser seen in the prologue of the first episode. Though it is not the best tv ever, it's endearing and all the characters are very nice. The guys need a little more substance, I believe, but I'm sure Rina Mimoun will not let me down, she never did.
Also, I kind alike Sanctuary. It's a nice change from the normal Sci fi.
As for the rest, it's just masochistic viewing and i'm not even sharing which shows I consider bad for my mental health

    Okay,

Everything that is bad on tv.com profile is missing on gamespot. I wish they did the same kidn of profile as on gamespot instead of this super busy page that annoys the hell out of me every time i check it.

The blogs are nicely formated, you have a button to write a new blog immediately, not after you go to the blog page.

You have the feed with like the last ten blogs from your friends. And there is no huge about me box like on tv.com.

It's simple and it's nice on the eyes, i want that for tv.com.

The only thing I like on the profile that wasn't there before is the proper list of favorites shows. The rest is just garbage for me and pollute unnecessarily the page. I can go without the Feed column on the left.

It has a scale of your level while the one we had on tv.com disappeared and they didn't have a dashboard which is totally useless and we could do without.

If only I could submit episodes and stuff about shows from gamespot, I would ! Honest, it's much better and less busy. How come it got so much worse on tv.com than it did on gamespot.

Let's face it, management will not revert back to TV.com 2.0. Not that it was the best design ever but it certainly was much nicer and more user friendly than this one.

So since it is a lost battle, I see no reason to try to make it better for them. They should have asked for us to beta test it so that we could help them and tell them what was working and was not working.

I've tried perusing the forums and frankly, the font color, the font background, the font size everything makes it difficult to stay on long.
They've taken like half of the window by morphing the horizontal navigational bar into a vertical one. Everytime I get to my profiole, i get annoyed of seeing the about me in the center. I don't care about the about me, it was perfectly fine on the right side. I get annoyed you two clicks at least to even start writing a blog.

As for show guides, boy. Do they really think we can find stuff or that we can even download if that's what they want us to do ?

So my advice is : leave tv.com despite all the hours put in this site which doesn't care about its users and go start working for tvrage.com.

I think like all the real users of this website that this redesign is actually pretty bad.

I saw the redesign on gamespot, I didn't like it but I thought I would have to live with it on tv.com. But i don't think I can.

Maybe they think this redesign makes it easier for an unknown user to browse but i I don't think it does.

Let's talk show guides. You want to check the info on the episode that just aired. You cannot get to it from the main show page anymore since now they only list the next episode instead of the 3 previous ones and the next one. So you have to click on the next one, and then try to find where the button for previous episode is. It's so small it took me a minute to find the frigging link to previous episode.
Then you get to the episode and for some reason someone thought having the Show score on the right was interesting trivia at the episode level. Let's also talk about the rating bar, which doesn't give you the numbers anymore unless you look in the url at the bottom of the browser's window and then it only works in increments of .5. Let's not talk about how to write a blog and the not appearing scroll so that after you finish to write in the little square you cannot see what you're writing without hitting preview. Let's not talk about the fact that to write a blog, you need to click on three different buttons while before you had it on your main profile. And who cares about that buig stupid box "about me" in the middle of the page. It was so much nicer when the first thing you saw was the latest blog. The about me should have stayed on the right right column. Really. Poullting so much a single page is beyong any understanding of mine.

Oh and did you see on the right column of your profile you have your tracked blogs and on the left column you have the feeds which you probably didn't ask for and it's exactly the same. This is one way to pollute a page which design was simple, not too busy and nice to look at.

And of course, did you count how many clicks you had to do to get to your submissions pages now ?

I did : first i need to scroll down to the contribution link on the left, then click on it so that the submenu shows up and then click again so that i get to the correct page etc. By the time i get to the main, I have lost 5 minutes of my life just because someone didn't consider how not easy this new navigation was.

I really disliked tvrage.com design but this is so much worse I may have to start doing contributions over there.

Oh and did you also notice on the forums page ? You may have favorites but they are not showing up first, you get so much garbage, it's nto even funny.

I have nothing against the designers, but honestly whoeever gave the greenlight for this is nuts and has no sense of what is easy to navigate with. I am pretty sure Gamespot has the same problems.

Maybe they should give us the option of going back to the old design that was working and not showing so much unnecessary info.

I want to get rid of so much stuff on my profile or on other pages, it's not even funny.

    Way to go boys !

I am sure Freakygeek is going bonkers at the new design. And the loss of the nice picture on each show page is so sad as well. In excanhge, we have stupid captures from episode that any moron can get from a file of the episode.

If that's what CBS wanted, they really need someone with better taste and sense of navigation.

I'm guessing not a lot of people have seen it considering it's on the bubble contrary to that crappy new show the secret life of the whatever...

So it's on ABC Family, it's called the Middleman, it's funny, they talk as fast as in the West Wing or Gilmore Girls, they make as many pop culture references as Buffy, Gilmore Girls or any show alike that. It's cheesy in a sweet way, the special effects are cheap on purpose and the actors are actually very convincing.

There's 3 episodes left and I guess you can check it out on abcfamily.com for the US citizens. Remember that 17 days after airing, writers get residuals so you can start from the beginning. Check it out, guys. It's a very good show and it makes you smile all the time.

Since, there's that many of you who loved Dr. Horrible, you should jump on this show, cause that's the closest you'll get to the same kind of cheezyness on TV right now.

Those who already know the show, the creator is asking for M & Ms to be sent to the network to get it saved

I so wished Joss Whedon had gave that episode as a pilot to a network. It works ! I mean here you can see how a pilot should be done vs. that crappy Fringe pilot (I'm still sick to the stomach about the ten millions given to Abrams for that pile of very very average pilot).

I can so envisioned a tv series that is this silly right now, The Middleman is already half way there

Anyway, Act 2 is actually much better than act 1, at least for me.

I love the first song. and the last too :p

Neil Patrick Haris is a genius, Fillion is hilarious and Felicia Day is doing a_okay.

    Can't wait for last part.

Now, I hope they do a CD or make the songs available to buy on the net.

    So,

I get to the site and I'm discovering it's locked in for US people only. Thanks Hulu and stupid Itunes country based store

A few hours later, and after a lot of complaints from all over Europe, I finally get to see Act 1.

Let's say, it does sound a lot like Once More, With Feeling but it's very cute, the music is nice and the acting is very good. Fillion as an idiot makes me laugh a lot.
I'll be rooting for Dr. Horrible, of course

That's what happens when you're trying to clean two episodes where someone added between 50/100 new crew people without trying to search the database. It's great when you have only one duplicate guide, but It happens I found several people with between 3/7 duplicate guides. Great for submissions levelling. Though I would have rather there was a fatsre way to do it. Cause after tagging all the duplicates, We will have to clean the two episodes : deleting the wrong entry and adding the correct one.

You guys can see what we try to do with our Union, that's where we pinpoint all the duplicates around here.

On another note, I kinda like the Middleman, it's completely silly and it's cheap and it's fun.

Today is for me the first day of the summer season, all of my shows are stating : burn notice, the closer, saving grace and stargate Atlantis. Only one I'll be waiting for is Eureka.

And god, In plain sight is really boring. I don't know what happened to fun shows, but this one missed the mark unlike Burn notice, Monk or Psych.

Some were dead set against Daniel Craig. I personally never had a problem witht he choice and when I saw Casino Royale, I found my second favorite James Bond Actor. Just after Sean Connery, of course.

Not to mention, Casino Royale finally had a plot ! Thanks to Paul Haggis. Hopefully quantum of solcace will as well, though Haggis might had to rush it due to the writers' Strike

    Anyways, enjoy the Teaser

So, I guess we all found stuff to do while there was this little pesky strike. I personally went on a reading spree and read a lot of fantasy involving wizards, dragons, vampires, werewolves, oracles etc and some sex in the mix cause with vampires, there's always sex. Go figure !

So last year, I read the Dresden files by Jim Butcher, because of the tv show. The books are all excellent and I read the tenth book about a month ago. But I read also the Southern Vampire Series which are being developed by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) for HBO under the title True Blood. Pretty good vampire series though the main character is a telepath. I actually am looking forward to seeing his take on the books because at first I wasn't that convinced there was that much material to do a real good series unlike under book series I've read like the Anita Blake, Vampire hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

But there is two series that i really loved : The Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance where Cassandra is a clairvoyant, who sees and talk to ghosts and has been brought up in a vampire family after the deaths of her parents. It's an excellent read, with a lot of time travel that still respect the time paradox. The 4 main character ie Cassandra, Myrcea the vampire, Billy the ghost (not the goat) and Prytkin the War mage are very well developed and each has his/her charm. The stories are very well written and it's a read through as in not putting it down books. It's completely action packed and there is never a dull moment.
The second series is Aisling Grey, Guardian by Katie Macalister where Aislin is a no nonsense girl who starts in the world as a courrier of antiques and learns that she's a Guardian and a Wyvern's mate (the mate of the chief of a dragon's community) and happens to summon the only demon with no master. The books are hilarious, the comic relief coming from all sorts of source whether from Jim, her newfoundland demon or her or something / someone else. I haven't laughed so hard reading a book as i have with these 4 books of the series.

So what have you guys been up to while the writers took their forced vacation ?

    So,

Only Fox is left from announcing its fall schedule.

I can't say I'm that impressed by any of the new shows that are going to make it.

First, i've seen most of the British shows from which they're doing remake like Life on Mars, the Eleventh Hour.... (both excellent UK shows)
The Mentalist sounds like a rip off of Psych, the Ex-List sounds ludicrous. That is what is going to replace Moonlight ? Good luck to CBS! Only show midly interesting is Harper's Island but that's mid-season.

As for ABC, well, it is still my favorite channel, that's where i'm watching the most shows.

We'll see what Fox does with Reilly at the commands. Of course the writer's strike didn't help the next season but I'm sure the writers could have come up with better than what they have done so far.

What do you guys think of the new schedules ?

Besides the renewal of Friday Night Lights, thanks to the partnership with Direct TV and the surprise buy of the UK new Merlin series, I think it's pretty unimaginative.

If the goal of NBC is to get back to the best network, this is probably not going to do it. Some are already saying, it's the perfect grid to fall behind the CW and that tells a lot.

So are you guys excited by any of the new shows NBC ordered?
