If someone made your blog a video game, would anyone play it?

We're gonna keep it musical and retro here at the Weekly Buzz. This song is not as crazy as The World Warrior but it's just as good. This video comes from the folks at Screw Attack for their "Life In A Game" feature. Now, I'm not sure what Life In A Game is or can I be bothered to go find out. All I know is that Metroid + Puff the Magic Dragon = awesome!!

This week's Weekly Buzz is breaking the Halo 3 streak and heads down the path to nostalgia. This week we bring you an original song paying homage to Street Fighter II. For the most part, it's in Japanese. But it really shouldn't hamper your fondness of the song.

The Weekly Buzz returns! Another Weekly Buzz, another Halo 3 video. Let's keep this streak going with a parody of GameStop, Halo 3 machimia style.

Also, a quick note, I was gonna actually stop doing this and contributing to GameSpot all together. But I got a PM from guitarman89 today asking where the Weekly Buzz was. And that inspired me to continue. But that being said, the Weekly Buzz will be my only contribution to GameSpot here on out. I have simply become fed up with GameSpot. So, don't expect any blog posts other than these or for me to comment in the blogs. So, you can stick around this blog if you enjoy the videos. But don't expect anything back unfortunately.

I hope I caught you before you stated your Halo playing frenzy with the addition of the new Legendary map pack. But if you havn't, good. Don't.

    Instead, here's what you do:

    1. Go to your local Circuit City.

    2. Pre-order Ninja Gaiden 2

    3. Give the cashier your email address.

    4. Return home

    5. Go to your computer, click your browser and go to your e-mail hosting web site of choice and sign in.

    6. In there, you should find an email from Circuit City.

    7. Open it.

    8. Inside should be a code for the Halo 3 Legendary map pack. Take that code and input it into your Xbox 360 console.

    9. Play Halo 3.

    10. Proof.

The trend of great Halo 3 machinima continues. In this video, Guy and Gal go on a date which is soon interrupted by Villian. So, of course, Guy goes on an adventure to save Gal, leading Guy through various classic games.

Well, if you noticed I haven't been on GameSpot in a while. The reason being I served a two day suspension. The reason? Posting the news story of the Xbox 360 controller that blatantly rips off the Wi-mote in the Wii board. Ok, I get that some people may thing this is "outside the discussion" of the Wii board. I understand that since, technically, it's not concerning the Wii but even so, I think this is still something Wii fans would like to hear. That's not the point. The point is the two days suspension is just ridiculous. Ok, if it is indeed out of the discussion, you lock the thread, you add a post that says "Post this somewhere else" and you move on. It wasn't like it was COMPLETELY outside of the topic of the board. It wasn't like I made a post like "I LIKE WAFFLES! Do you like waffles too?". I can see where the problem there is. But, I mean, jesus christ, a little harsh. No?

As for the actual suspension, I didn't really care. I've moved on to bigger and better things to do with my time, other than GameSpot. The thing that got me pissed off was the reasoning behind it. I know a lot of you are gonna say things like "Rules are rules, n00b!" So, I'm sorry if I found the whole thing a tad ridiculous. And this is nothing new with GameSpot. This site has, by far, the strictest rules of any gaming site I've seen. But, whatever, GameSpot. I'm sure Giant Bomb will understand.

Welcome to the first installment in my weekly feature, the Weekly Buzz. For the record, this name comes from a comment someone made to me a while back that my username sounded like a drug.

In this week's installment, we take a trip to Anime Boston 2008 and a live action Duck Hunt skit. Now, since this is ANIME Boston, expect some anime references thrown in for good measure. Enjoy.

4 years at GameSpot and still not level 30 and only 6000 posts. What the hell have I been doing with my time here?!

But, yeah, 4 years ago today, I signed up for GameSpot. It feels like I've been here much longer. It's too bad about the state the website is in right now. But, I still believe in you guys. Oh, and to my defense, I was actually level 30 a few weeks ago but I got moderated for a points loss and was knocked back to 29.

I don't really know what else to say so I'll just wrap it up before I start rambling.

    Woo!

The following video is by animation duo For Tax Reasons, consisting of Ben Levin and Matt Burnett. Basically, they make cartoons. And this one is especially hilarious. It's about a dad who discovers his son has been taken over by the evils of Final Fantasy. Sorry for the ad in the middle. Fortunately, it's AWESOME! So after the cartoon and the awesome ad, you'll be treated to a behind the scenes look at what goes into making these cartoons.

Also, I'm thinking of making this a weekly thing. Every week, I'll post a new video and you'll be like "That's awesome! HAHAH!". I'm thinking I'll do the videos on Sundays to start the week. So, I need some help from you, the 3 to 5 people who read this blog! First off, do you think that's a good idea? Second, I need a name for the feature if I'm to do it. So, throw some suggestions my way.

I've spent a good 5 days with the Bad Company beta now so I figured I would give a quick write up on my thoughts of the game.

First, let me go down what the beta contains. There are is only one game mode in the beta which is Gold Rush. Gold Rush is a bit different than most game modes that are usually found in online FPSes. The basic idea is that there are two teams--Attackers and Defenders. The Attackers must, obviously, attack the defenders and destroy crates filled with gold that the Defender must, obviously, defend. There isn't one central place where there are like 10 crates, though. The map is divided into bases of operation. For example, let's say the Attackers start at a farm while the Defenders start at an airport hanger. I don't know I'm just pulling this out of my ass. So, the Defenders would have two gold crates at the airport hanger and once the Attackers destroy this crates, by placing a charge on them, the Defenders must fall back to another base where there are two more gold crates and the Attackers take control of the airport hanger. The way the Attackers win the game is to, obviously, capture all the gold crates. However, the Attackers only have a limited amount of respawns and the only way to get more respawns is to capture the crates. So, if the Defenders can keep killing the Attackers without them capturing crates, they will eventually run out of respawns and the Defenders win. Don't worry, it's a lot less complicated than it sounds. Overall, it's a fun little game mode though the Defenders do have a slight advantage because of the sheer amount of crates there are to capture.

The beta also comes with two maps. The first map is Ascension. This map takes place on a hilly countryside in what appears to be some kind of small town. There is only one vehicle on this map, a jeep and it's not especially useful. So, you'll be mostly engaging in good old-fashioned firefights. The second map is Oasis. This map takes place in what appears to be Africa on a flat plain. Now, this map is very vehicle heavy. You'll have everything from tanks to helicopters to even boats. Oasis is pretty much all-out war and is by far, my preferred map. That being said, Ascension is also a fine map and you really can't go wrong with either one.

The main selling point for Bad Company has been the destruction, the whole idea that could blow up anything and everything. And while the mowing down trees is just like they promised, the building destruction is not quite as satisfying. EA promised free-forming destruction that if you shoot anything it will wither anyway and while the destruction is still impressive, it's not quite that. The destruction has sort of a layer system. If you shoot a building with a tank once, this part of the building will fall off. Shoot in again, this part will fall off, etc. Now, it still looks awesome and I'm being a bit picky here as destruction isn't really that big of a deal. It's just that I don't like being lied to.

But let's get to what really matters. The gameplay. All in all, it plays exactly like a Battlefield game should. It's just over-the-top crazy chaotic action. There are tons of different weapons to choose from and even more that you can unlock. So, it will fit whatever you want to do. If you want to be a demo man, you grab your shotgun and rocket launcher. You want to be a sniper, sure. You want to be assault, grab your M4. And then, of course, there are the tons of the different vehicles which I touched upon before. You got a variety of different tanks, helicopters, jeeps and boats to choose from. And they all work great. Though, the helicopters are controlled very differently than helicopters in most games and the rest of the vehicles in Bad Company. So, they might take a while to master.

As for the graphics, they are decent. They are nothing to right home about but I guess that's understandable considering the level of destruction and the constant explosions happening around you. Besides, Battlefield has never been known for it's outstanding graphics. That's that can really be said about the graphics. Meh, they're fine.

Overall, Bad Company looks to be turning out quite well. The only thing that really worries my is the news that EA will be selling weapons over the Xbox Live Marketplace. I don't know about you but I'm not looking forward to getting killed by some jackass just because he was willing to shell out $10 for a laser cannon.

Forever Gamer - Sky Marshall Arts

Click that link for a song about old-school gaming that is cheesy yet you can't help but to get up and just dance.

The song is apparently by a bunch of old-school Nintendo nerds from some other country because they're website is in some language I don't understand. But, whatever, enjoy the video and don't ask questions. I might upload the video later for the sake of convenience.

    EDIT:

There ya go. Uploaded for your viewing pleasure.

IGN and GameSpy alongside File Planet were giving out Battlefield: Bad Company beta keys today. And I managed to snag one!

I am really excited about this game. It looks like everything Battlefield should be and more. Just the destructable environments and blowing the crap out of houses and trees has me excited enough. The beta is downloading as I type this and it begins March 25th. It's also 360 only. I'm not sure why PS3 owners always get left out in the cold for these betas. But I'm sure when the Haze beta comes out all the 360 owners will be complaining.

I don't know if there are any keys left but if there is, they can be found here.

Anyone else get into beta? Or am I the only lucky fellow?

This EA/Take-Two buyout seems to be the talk of the town lately. So, I decided I would give my two cents. However, I don't see this being a very popular opinion since everyone seems to be convinced that EA is trying to rape our churchs and burn our women.

I hope this doesn't happen just from the point of the view that I'm sick of seeing EA's name plastered on every game that comes out. However, would this really change Take-Two's games all that much? Probably not. Everyone acts as if EA is some like evil corporation that is trying to corrupt the game industry. The fact is: yes, EA does milk some franchises and they do lose quality. However, EA does put out some quality games. The Battlefield series, for one. Madden is still fun and playable, though for some reason, everyone argues that. "Bah! This is football! Same as last year! Bah!" If EA buys Take-Two, Rockstar will still be making Grand Theft Auto 4. EA isn't gonna infect it with some disease to make it bad.

The only way I can see this as a bad thing is for some of the sport franchises. 2K Sports has the superior college basketball and NBA franchises. March Madness and NBA Live simply do not compare to College Hoops and NBA 2K. However, even there, not that big of a deal. I used to think 2K had the superior hockey franchise but NHL 2K8 took a big step backwards this year. And even before that, EA's NHL was just fine. Before this year, I would also be complaining about 2K still not getting the NFL license. But after seeing All Pro Football, I think 2K might have lost its touch with football. On top of that, 2K hasn't put out a good MLB 2K game in a couple years now and I for one would love to see the EA's MVP series make a return. Even taking all of this into account, I'm still not dying for this to happen. But we'll have to wait and see.

Now, that's my two cents. And now for the topic that came about today.

EA has decided that if Take-Two won't play ball then they won't have to. EA has begun a hostile takeover of Take-Two, that I believe will work. EA is now offering the shareholders the same $26 per-share they offered Take-Two last month. Take-Two has asked shareholders to hold off but I think we all know that won't happen. The shareholds see money they want it and I doubt very many shareholders are gonna hesitate in giving EA what they want. Now, we always knew that EA could be jerks but this is a real dirtbag move. EA just will NOT take "no" for an answer. And honestly, I think Take-Two was going to accept this offer anyway after Grand Theft Auto IV was released. Take-Two and EA are both going to benefit from this. People are not gonna like it. But, oh well. That's business for you.

So, after all is said and done, do I want this buyout to happen? No, not really. Will it happen? Yeah, probably. Will it affect the quality of games? Probably not. Will EA milk a franchise or two of Take-Two's? Most likely. Can we do anything about it? Nope.

For months, speculation has circulated about Jeff Gerstmann making a new site after his totally redunk firing from GameSpot. And now, it's here. Jeff, alongside Ryan Davis and some other "cool dudes, have launched their new site Giant Bomb. It's sort of just a blog right now but there is a preview for Army of Two and a review for Burnout Paradise are in there. Also, there is the first "making of" video on the site entitled How to Build a Bomb. Also, the Arrow Pointing Down podcast will soon be transforming into the Giant Bomb podcast. Check it out!

One more thing, Jeff will be on X-Play tonight to promote the new site.

The second epsiode of Arrow Pointing Down can now be found here. As well, as on iTunes.

On this episode, Ryan and Jeff are joined by fellow former GameSpot editor and current writing-what-the-hell-he-feels-like AKA freelance reviewer, Alex Navarro. And we all know what that means. The awesomeness has increased. If that's even possible. As for as audio quality, the guys have traded the horrible Skype quality for some random echoes from within the bowels of Jeff's living room.

As for the content, the crew once again talks about beverages and candy bars along with GDC and Jeff's lawsuit against McDonald's. Now go listen since there is now no reason at all to listen to the HotSpot.
