My Friends

24Dec 12

Dear GS Homeslices,

I hope everyone's X-Mas goes well. My X-Mas Eve is rolling along nicely. If I don't blog or respond to your blogs, know that I wish all of you the best.

Well, on December 22nd, I had my 37th Birthday. As such, I got a few gifts and well wishes from loved ones. This is on top of having the Holidays off from college and interning.

Never one to pass up the opportunity to spoil myself, I raided GOG and Steam.

Steam:

The Orange Box [had to use the color in the font] ($10)

Half-Life ($2.50)

GTA Vice City ($5)

Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga (gifted to me)

GOG:

The Witcher (only $2.50!)

Puddle ($5)

Baldur's Gate II (gifted to me)

Deus Ex The Invisible War (gifted to me)

I also gifted some games to my brothers and nieces via their GOG accounts, and ordered some DVDs for a few friends and relatives. So X-Mas shopping is all taken care of. All-in-all, this Holiday season is going smoothly.

I call it "X-Mas" because this Jesus dude wasn't born in the Winter. The Holiday celebrated, and quite commercially, is actually modeled after the Pagan deity Noel. Nor am I Christian or of any of the other Abrahamic belief systems. Besides, I'm of the Left Hand Path: we indulge in whatever we can, whenever we can. If the rest of society is sitting on its ass and hanging out with loved ones -then so shall we!

Take Care & Enjoy the Holidays for what you value out of life.

Don't follow any religion... it's religion thats killing the true meaning of Christmas... a week off work and an excuse to get completely of your head.

I'm not going to comment on when Jesus was born, if he was born on 12/25 I haven't really looked on that. As for what religion I picked christianity.

But Anyway Happy Birthday & Merry Christmas

Happy Birthday, we are about the same age!

I think I'm an agnostic, I don't know what to believe and not to believe. But I'm certain for one thing: I don't believe in holidays, or any kind of special dates. Also I don't like Name days and all sort of anniversaries. I think God sent special dates to man to test his faith, a similar thing with the Seven Plagues in Egypt.

Now to some serious matters: Why do you think Witcher 2 costs only 2 dollars? I saw that price on Steam too, and I thought that I didn't see well. You know, it's very positive because it is a very interesting game and a 2011 release, but I can't explain why it is so cheap. I got if for 35 Euros last year. :P

 @Rheinmetal

I haven't checked The Witcher out on Steam.

But I can understand it being that cheap on GOG: GOG is owned by CD Projekt Red, the devs and publishers of The Witcher series. Steam probably dropped their price for The Witcher in order to compete for X-Mas sales.

Steam is owned by Valve, devs and publishers of The Orange Box, Portal 2, L4D... Which explains the low cost of the Left 4 Dead and Half-Life series on Steam.

@nate1222 That explains a lot. That's why when I got Witcher 2 there was no DRM at all. You just put the disk and install the game, like in the old days. :)

Yup, December 25th is not exactly Jesus' birthday. It's written in the bible that the shepherds were out with their flocks at night. That wouldn't be possible if it was winter.

I agree that December 25th isn't the exact day that Jesus was born 2012 years ago. Many historians believe that Jesus may have been born even around 2-3 BC. However, it is holiday that many people of various nationalities across the world celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Happy B-Day Nate! :D

Awesome purchases man :D

About the religion thing , actually , in Christianity it is said that Jesus was born in Claus's barn and because he was too stubborn to let him be born in a warm house , he punished him in giving gifts to the children of surrounding villages every year when it's Jesus's birthday until the day he dies. Or at least this is what it is said :o
