In a earlier blog I mentioned my problems with Resident Evil 5 and the problems I had with it. Well, I decided to pick it back up and give it a second shot without my friend playing co-op. I rather would have played it co-op with him but so many said this is a good game I wanted to see more of it for myself. I still think the controls are screwed for a game these days but I got used to it after the first chapter with the right set up.

I enjoyed the fighting once I figured out shooting the enemies in the leg then killing them with a melee punch worked about the best. Also I figured out I didn't have to kill everything... After that I had fun along the way. The action is pretty over the top in some spots and the boss fights are what I really looked forward to in the end.

Too bad this was a rental I think I could have spent a bit of time leveling things up and running thru it on harder levels. I finished the game and played a few of my favorite chapters over at a harder level with infinite ammo on a magnum. Playing the game again with the new outfits was kinda funny, the cut scenes take on a different vibe with the characters in clubbing outfits.

Maybe when the game price goes down in the future I'll pick it up for my collection.

I took this game back and picked up Ninja Blade, wow what a change in pace after Resident Evil 5. I played through the first couple of chapters and took this back to the video store. Best comparison of this game is to Ninja Gaiden 2 but Ninja Blade is really it's own breed of game.

Someone at the company that made that game reeeeealy likes quick time events. I have discovered after this game that I really don't like quick time events at all. Take em out of all games for all I care... They have QTE for everything from blocking, dodging and boss battles. I started thinking about the old game Dragon's Lair the further they got into this All they needed was a QTE when you used the health spray and that would have been the last bit missing.

Maybe if you liked Ninja Gaiden 2 you would pick this up but I can't even say I would waste a rental on this and no way would I buy it.

Weapons of Fate was a fun game for about 5 hours or so, really short. I think it was okay to be so short because any longer and whatever they added would really felt like filler. Wesley in this continuation of the story reeeeealy is cocky during the cut-scenes and almost became annoying. Weird since in the movie he was more a sympathetic character, now he is just a wisecracking killer.

Anyway the special attack of curved bullets was fun for awhile but got boring near the end, kinda wished they had more weapons then the pistols and machine pistols with a sniper/machine turret scene here and there. Don't think this would be great game at full price but $20 in the bargin bin and I might pick it up to run thru the other levels in the different modes like head shot and close up.

If anything playing the game makes me want to pick up some of the comics the movie and game was based off of.

Second game I completed was House of the Dead: Overkill. Had to take over my friends Wii again for a night and we played thru HOD. Pretty short game and most could finish it in about 3 hours, the other 4 days on the rental it just sat on my desk.

I always enjoyed the HOD arcade gun games in the past and think this was probably the best I played. Only thing I didn't like is the game would glitch and no zombies would appear and the game would just sorta stop. Then we would have to restart the level.

I thought it was pretty over the top with the Grindhouse like story and the swearing. I think that has to be the most swearing I have ever heard in a game and it's a Wii game, ha! Also the ending is just wrong... Me and my friend at the end just looked at each other and said what the f@#k?

Great game for a rent and who knows maybe a game to pick up if cheap. Still considering buying that Wii...

You know I went into this game with low expectations and didn't think it was all that bad. The story is cheesy with Matt Hazard being a washed up video game hero making fun of the very video game he is in. I think the game was long enough that this didn't get too annoying. I think one of the funnier lines was when your character tells you he is going to finish things up and get the so and so achievement.

About the achievements, you can't beat getting 60 achievement points for just watching the credits. You don't even have to beat the game to watch the credits either... The game was pretty generous with the achievement points and I think I got 700 or so without really trying to get any of them.

But a couple of things did annoy me during the game, first the aiming was just off. A lot of times I swear I was aiming at the enemy and crosshairs were red but still it didn't seem like I was registering a hit. Second, I died a lot and didn't seem to have a full sense of how close my character was to dying. One time I might just take shot after shot and still live and the other I would peak around the corner and bang. Dead... Frustrating but I kept playing.

Definitely a rent and as for buying it would have to be in a pretty cheap bargain bin.

I was really looking forward to this game and playing some more co-op with one of my friends. I enjoyed Resident Evil 1 and 2 back in the day and thought this would be a good one to jump back into the series.

I think playing this co-op is how you would get the most fun out of it. From what I have heard the ai of the Sheeva is a little off and you have to baby sit her a little to much. Anyway, I think we played it about a hour before my friend gave up in frustration. He was used to shooters like Halo, Gears and Call of Duty and right off the bat he was complaining the controls was screwed and before the first boss he gave up and said he couldn't play it any longer.

When I played the demo I knew the controls were a bit different and I just thought when the full game comes out and my friend is playing that things would get better and we would get used to it. We just kept getting mobbed by zombies and I could see my friend looking up at the sun with his character taking wild swipes with the knife. Couldn't even get past the first boss with the axe. Sadly I took the game back to the video store and swapped it out for something else.

Maybe sometime in the future I will pick it up for cheap and play it thru by myself.

I don't own a Wii but this is the first game I have played that has made me want to purchase that system. I rented this from the local video store and shared playing it with one of my friends who has a Wii. Finally got him to pop that Wii Sports game out of the machine since he bought it. He was pretty surprised after the mature rated game really got going.

First off I love the music and look of the game, black and white with the blood contrasting in red really made me think of Frank Miller and the Sin City books. Second, the raunchy commentary between the announcers John Di Maggio the voice of Futurama's Bender and Who's Line is it Anyway's Greg Proops was very funny. Can't tell you how many times we just burst out laughing from what was said or trying to make sure that is really what they said.

Finally, I just have to say the game is fun. Not for the kiddies mind you with all the swearing and crazy violence but I think I could really play that game a couple times over trying to get better scores and beat the boss's more quickly. This game could have easily become a boring beat em up but with slightly different enemies, weapons and killing method I kept playing and playing.

Also the bloodbath challenges were some of the most interesting and funniest parts of the game. Black Baron the narrator before each challenge is just wrong but if your interested you can check out you tube for yourself.

Definitely a rent and I think even a buy for some. Anyway made me rethink getting a Wii now, hmmmm.

I was in pretty good spirits after work today looking forward to the weekend and playing some Resident Evil 5 co-op later with a friend when the above pamphlet was handed to me while I was checking out...

I currently have a game plan at my local Hollywood Video and have never been disappointed with the one out at a time program similar to Netflix and movies or Blockbusters game plan. The best thing about it was that this particular store doesn't get hit like the other video stores and Blockbuster and I could always get a new game the day it came out. It has been a great deal for the past year.

But today the lady at the register tells me I need to switch to this powerplay plan and says the power play plan closest to the $19.99 videogame plan I currently have is the Diamond $39.99 plan.... This is looking like quite the rip off and I guess it is time to move on and try some other service. Tried calling the Hollywood Video customer service line listed on the pamphlet but sat on hold for awhile with no luck.

Later I checked the Hollywood Video website and I don't get the feeling that I have to make a switch and can keep my old plan. So maybe there is some hope that if I do nothing I can just hold on to the old plan.

My impressions so far on Halo Wars is mixed. On the one hand I love Halo and they could sucker me in on just about anything with that name on it and I will give it a try. I have played thru about 6 of the missions so far and my favorite parts are the cut scenes which add to the earlier Halo story.

As for the bad I think I have confirmed to myself I just really don't like RTS very much. Oh I get a kick out of seeing the UNSC units, especially the Spartans, running around beating on tanks and warthogs running over troops. But even with the slimmed down RTS experience I just don't have my attention held like other games and often will play a couple missions and then put it down. Then later on I seem to always find a excuse not to pick it up again, heck I had more fun finishing 50 Cent Blood in the Sand!

I can't see myself purchasing this, even renting it was kinda meh. I thought it was funny the other day I eavesdropped on a conversation between a Gamestop employee and a customer where the employee was making sure that the customer knew that this was not a first person shooter and a RTS. Wonder if they had any disappointed kids come back to complain?

I hope this isn't a trend of whoring out the Halo series after the Bungie days, yeah I'll pick up ODST but after that I wonder... What next Halo Cart Racing?

My latest rental and probably one of the shortest games recently is 50 Cent Blood in the sand. Total of 9 chapters, 7 taking up about a hour each and a couple vehicle levels which blow by pretty quick. (I read somewhere he was shot 9 times and that is why there are 9 chapters, really?) Anyway, I always heard that the original one Bulletproof was one of the worst games out there but most reviews I saw said this sequel was a fairly fun game.

I have to agree this was a fun game and it looked pretty good. It plays like part Army of Two and The Club. You probably would get the most fun out of this playing co-op as one of 50's G-unit members. The scoring scenarios was fun and pushed you to do certain things in gameplay like shoot 3 thugs before 20 seconds is up or get to some defined area before the clock ran out. This added to your point total as well as finding hidden posters, cash and targets. Some scenarios will even give you explosive rounds which were some of the most fun in the game.

I had some success at finishing the scenarios, finding the posters but absolutely no luck at finding the hidden targets. Some you just have to be looking the right way or angle to see the yellow and black target. Although I never really got a super high score at the end of the levels it was fun and gave a arcade type feel to the game.

As for the bad it was pretty quick and only kept me busy a couple days, also I think I am completely burned out on listening to rap music. I don't listen to much rap if any but I think I reached my threshold of pain, but to others who are 50 cent fans this new music would be a plus.

Also the G-unit member your are paired with gets annoying saying fiddy this and fiddy that, should have checked the options on that to turn it off. I know 50 cent was probably more involved with this game but is this how he wants himself portrayed? I know he has to keep up his gangsta cred but he really comes off as a jerk that keeps saying where's mah money! Definite rental but don't buy this. But one theoretical question… Why did this not come out at $50? Sheesh 50 cent, $50 price point that could have been huge!

My latest rental is The Godfather, was the only sandbox game that I haven't played and for some reason at my local video store it was always rented. I have to say after playing it a bit I really enjoyed it. It plays just like a older GTA game and you play as someone making his way up the family ladder to finally become the don.

What I enjoyed the most was the extorting of local business's and slapping around the shop owners trying to figure out what worked best to get them to pay up. Laughed out loud the first time I by accident threw a shop owner into his own oven… Also weaving your character into the Godfather story without changing it was interesting and my favorite mission has to be putting the horse head in the movie producers bed.

The only part that was disappointing was all the Microsoft points you could blow on getting a certain gun or the most powerful body guard faster than usual. I don't think I will ever spend a penny on something like that. Was a little sad taking it back yesterday to the video store but I wanted to pick up the new 50 Cent game…

I would say this game is a definite rent and a decent purchase, been looking around lately for a good deal on one if anyone knows of one let me know!

Just finished F.E.A.R. 2 and enjoyed it, not the best shooter out there but enough to keep my attention all the way to the end. The whole horror angle didn't really work, it wasn't really scary. Only once did I get surprised by Alma, turned around once in the game expecting a soldier and it was Alma. That was a perfectly placed event, but for the most part the bodies flying around, furniture getting moved and ghostly people were just interesting to look at. I think the best game so far I played to set this sort of mood is Deadspace.

But I did enjoy the game, read thru a bit of the intel as I went thru and really enjoyed the parts where you got to man a turret and power suit. I can't tell you how much fun it was to jump in the suit and just utterly rip the environment and enemy soldiers up. When I got to the end of a killing spree in one of those things it was quite the disappointment to have to jump out.

Also the AI that everyone talked about in the first game and this one is fun to go up against. Not the normal wait and shoot the guys head when he pops up. They run around, retreat, pull up cover and flank you. Some times I would get in that mode where I would be waiting for a head to pop up and the guy already sneaked his way past me and was behind me shooting. Awesome! Best part of the game in my opinion.

Tried the multiplayer too at the end and that was a big disappointment, I think I played capture the control point and really don't see this as a keeper if your looking for some fun multiplayer. Gameplay was laggy and I found it hard to tell your team from the other and would sometimes come into a room where there is one guy from the other side just ripping everyone up and they are standing there not able to see who is who.

All in all a fun shooter, not sure of the replay ability but something definitely to check out.

I didn't really have much expectations for Onechanbara Bikini Samurai Squad other that wanting to see one of those weird Japanese import games focused on cute chicks fighting. In the intro cutscene seeing the two sisters getting ready to fight zombies made be laugh out loud. Heh, the character Aya got caught in the shower during this current zombie apocalypse and had to quickly don her cowboy hat, feather boa, swords and sport thong!

The game controls were pretty bad, graphics reminded me of a Playstation 2 game and I just didn't have a lot of fun with the boring battles and confusing map to get from encounter to encounter. Right off the bat I didn't clean my sword, guess in the game a clean sword is important and if yours is too dirty it will get stuck in zombies? So I died a bit trying to figure that out and the game manual is worthless trying to figure out any details about the game. If you are interested IGN has a decent faq at

    http://faqs.ign.com/articles/756/756503p1.html

I got in about 7 out of 20 chapters and just wasn't having any fun anymore, really you would think scantily clad women fighting zombies would be a no-brainer and be some fun. I can't even really say this would be a decent rental since I'm taking mine back for the next game. Hey, maybe the video store will have X-Blades left!

My latest rental is The Last Remnant, I was wanting to kill a month before Resident Evil 5 and thought a JPRG would be a could choice to occupy my time. At this point I'm not sure if I am going to continue playing the game after about 10 hours in.

First off the game doesn't look very good after playing my most recent JRPG Lost Odyssey. The texture pop in is really obvious on any scene and distracting. Also during battles there is so may characters that sometimes a active unit disappears and is invisible while taking his turn, also slowdown of the action happens in every turn. This is a Square Enix game?

What really might do the game in for me is the tiny lettering that you have to read for all the dialogue and battles. There is some points I have to get right up to the screen to see what a weapons stats or what is being said or the ingredients for a upgrade. I must admit I have a decent 32 inch tube tv but come on can't they make a option for big lettering? Guess I'll put the problem of tiny letter behind me when I get that HD LCD I always wanted …

Well, maybe I take a trip to the video place to trade it in, maybe Infinite Undiscovery will be a better JRPG.

Continuing my run of games I just finished my rental of Quantum of Solace, almost forgot about this game due to all the great games that came out near the end of last year. Since it came from Treyarch it was very similar to playing a call of duty game which the last couple COD 4 and COD WaW have been some of my favorites. Didn't take me too long to beat only about 8-10 hours at the most. It was great they were able to use the likeness of Daniel Craig to add that extra bit of likeness to the movie but near the end it started to distract me. His dead, expressionless face seemed so odd during some of the quick time events and even during a knife fight there would be no expression, nothing! Guess it wouldn't seem as odd if your counterpart to the fight had the same dead expression but they seemed to get a bit more emotion to show in their face.
But that was a small gripe. I did get a chance to play the online multiplayer which was interesting and still had plenty of people playing so if your were interested in picking a copy up it wouldn't be a ghost town for you. They also have a different system where you earn credits which you use for upgrades and weapons. The maps and characters seemed a little simple and not as polished as COD 4 and 5 but still had that COD feel... But the bond inspired game types were enough to hold my interest for awhile and I can see someone putting in just as much time getting new weapons and so on. If I ever see this around used I might pick it up for another play thru and a bit of multiplayer.

Wow, I have been on a roll lately with games. Last one I tried out for a couple days was Afro Samurai. For me it was fun for the first couple of hours, the cell animation looked really cool and Samuel Jackson as the storyteller was kinda interesting. But after a couple of hours it just was fighting the same guys over and over with nothing too different to shake things up. But what really frustrated me was the camera in the game. I was forever fighting with it to look in the right direction and face my attackers. Also the perspective can get real funny and for about 5-10 minutes I got stuck hovering between two rocks, if they want a platformer where you have to hop from rock to rock with some precision a bad camera and some glitchy spots really doesn't work. May be fun for a rent but I wouldn't really shell out $60 for it. Also while Samuel Jackson as the storyteller was interesting it also got on my nerves with the constant swearing and yelling at Afro. After death and between loading he would yell AFRO!, I got so sick of that. But it did make me curious enough to want to see the cartoon and if it was any good, so it worked in one respect.

I loved the Lord of the Rings books and later the movies that came out but never got around to playing a Lord of the Rings video game until Lord of the Rings Conquest. I really wasn't impressed by the game and was pretty bored with it quickly. I think I played thru half of it and stopped at the evil retelling of the story. It just was a lot of running around and mashing on buttons and once and awhile getting to play as one of the hero's from Lord of the rings. Even that was underwhelming and playing as Argon or the Warrior class didn't feel too much different from each other. I wouldn't even say this was a good rental and certainly not a buy. If your a Lord of the Rings fan I won't say you should pick it up just because of what it is. It's just a sad grab for some more cash.

I was pretty excited to get Operation Anchorage DLC for Fallout 3 since I loved the game enough to play it for about 70 hours and getting 1000 gamerscore. But I have to say the DLC was less than expected for a couple of reasons. First is that since I have downloaded it I have had quite a few times now where the game just stops working, never seemed this bad before and now it did that about 3-4 times in the first hour. And my second reason is the add on was only about 2 hours long and seemed like a straight shooter. Instead of scrounging for food and water you get health from big red canisters evenly spaced thru the module. It just didn't feel like the same game and I know it was a computer simulation from the story but they should have stuck to what worked before. Anyway $10 bucks was a little much more like $5 and I would have no issues with it. Guess I have to vote with my microsoft points or not next month...

Lately on Halo 3 the only times I have been getting on is during the double exp weekends with special game types. My favorite so far has been 3 Ball which I played a lot of this week. The only thing is that the respawn rates seem to be longer than other types of games and I cannot stand getting stuck short a man right before the game starts. Pretty much gonna lose unless you get very lucky. I wish Halo 3 could take a clue from COD World at War and a game doesnt start without a full group and they add as the game goes along. Well one can hope when ODST comes out they make a few tweaks to the multiplayer...

Just got Gears of War 2 this weekend and while I have had fun playing co-op I have been dissappointed with the multiplayer on it. 10 - 15 minutes to get a match and when you do It just goes to hell with part of teams taking off... Matchmaking on that is totally screwed! I'll stick with Halo 3!

Ever since Grand Theft Auto came out I dropped my Game plan with the local Video rental store and have been playing just my bought games. Grand Theft Auto 4 was great and kept me busy for a month or so and then I got on a Oblivion kick and finished out most everything else except for the last part of the Brotherhood quests. I'll get back to them soon enough. But last week I picked my Game plan back up and my first rental was Ninja Gaiden 2. I'm not to excited about it since it is just a brutal game and dying repeatedly on the easy setting isn't much fun. Dropped that game back off after about 3 days and picked up Bad Company. I thought the single player was decent but I reeeeaaaaly loved the online mp. I think I will be playing that for a bit.

Yeah it might be just mindless bashing but I like the Grifball weekends! Double exp why not? Don't know if this is Bungie's attempt to catch up with Call of Duty 4 but I like it!
